I'll get mine done up tonight and get it out tomorrow so lads to keep the show on the road. I'll get on to Wangball to see if he's out or in as well
Great. Is that the cue for number two on the list to start getting the finger out?

More a cue for number one to get his tracklist finalised and burnt:)
Got on to Wangball there lads and due to a few reasons his was delayed, but they're good to go and he'll get them posted in the next few days. I'll hold off on my one til after that so so we can keep the list in order and have one of Kingdom Hoop's end of round mash ups :)

Nice idea but I don't be having decks to mash things up properly so I'd say you just go after Wangball. Though I'll happily (as we all should) post my Best Of, or maybe Best Five, or Mediocre Seven, or something exciting like that.

Just back from a fortnight in the Costa Del Kilkee where we'd several of the comps on the car stereo and on the ipod.
My three year old is now to be heard regailing his grandparents with chorus' of "Rise and Shine ...come on and ride my sister":D. I'll need to beat that out of him before creche starts back next week.
Unfortunately the one CD I needed to catch up on ...KHs, wouldn't go on the car stereo so I'll be catching up with that over the next few days.

Well did you catch up with it or was it just too fast-paced? :D
Also, Jebus did you send yours out yesterday, or will it be next week? :) At this stage one can only assume Wangball has been abducted by Congolese rebels and his hands and legs are being used as propellers for a wind turbine.

Still recovering after Electric Picnic I'm afraid but we'll start a new round next week. For now we can debate the pros and cons of each other's compilations? I was gonna put up a poll but there inevitably would be someone or some people who don't get a vote and I don't think anyone around here is mature enough to handle that :)
Sorry to harp on about it again, but is this still a runner or dead in the water or what? Subtle hints are not my strong suit. :D

Sorry, was meant to post that I was having problems with burning my CD (still unsure of the problem), but have been sidetracked the past 3 weeks with getting ready to move and then moving down to Limerick. Does someone want to go first while I work out what the problem is? We can do up a new running order if it suits?
I think it's worth keeping anyway, threw on a few of the mixes whilst I was packing and they kept the spirits up :)

Yeah very extreme language there. I'd say myself that it's been enjoying a deserved languid bask in the warm glow emitted by the initial burst of brilliance and that maybe it's time to turn the heat up again. :)
Coincidentally I just logged on for the purpose of seeing whether I'd been knocked off the list or something as I was half expecting Jebus's second offering for the past while. Not to worry though as it's been good to give each a thorough going over before we loop. Stann's was probably my favourite of the lot, so of course he'll be getting the obligatory award at some stage soon. :D
I haven't really yet thought of what I'd like to do for the next one and I'm away the weekend so I won't go next week but I'll go whenever after that. Anyway I'd presume from the way he's talking that Stann has got something special waiting to go. Take it away.
I don't want to step on Stann's toes here, but I started piecing together a mix (in my head, mainly) in anticipation of the second round, so if Stann wants to lead, I'll follow, or else I could finish mine off over the weekend and get the ball rolling next week. What say ye?
By all means go ahead Noby. Have half an idea (following the themes suggestion mooted a while ago) but not mad anxious to go first or anything like that. And it's certainly nothing special! :D
Just wondering what was on the go was all. The subtle hints remark was in case I had missed any! :D

While I have you here as well Stann, where can I get membership forms for this All Saints Appreciation Society? :)
You just have to wish yourself a member, Jebus, it's one of them there magic realist societies where all things are possible to all people, all set to a heavenly backdrop of angelic harmonies and sharp, sassy pop! :)
I got sidetracked with a bit of wallpapering (should this be in the nostalgia thread?), so all going well I'll finish the cds tonight. Failing that they'll be in the post Wednesday. Failing that I'll delete my offer to get round two up and running, and pass the buck.

I hope you'll be pleased to hear it's been on heavy rotation for a couple of weeks now BUT I don't have the tracklisting to offer a crit. You might post that up here. I know Sigur Ros at the start of it (Superb track but I must admit I'm starting to tire of Sigur Ros lately ...the fcukers everywhere! ...and in a re-run of the tyranny that followed the release of his compatriot Bjorks Debut back in 93 ...you're a knuckle dragger of yesteryear if you don't just love it). Plenty of tasty beats and morsels thereafter but as I say I wouldn't know a good lot of them.

The wallpaper is stunning too; that's what happens when you let your 4y/o daughter pick it out.
Anyway, cds are finished, so I'll try and get them in the post this evening. Besides Jebus I presume all addresses are as before, yes?

Yep, Pat and loyal companion Jess toddled along to the farmhouse earlier, affably delivering your package. Pat said he felt a little shiver of intrigue shoot through his bones as he passed me your CD, said there be something magical in that there package. And I never doubt a postman's intuition so looking forward to sticking it on later tonight. Great to see We Show Up On Radar getting some exposure anyway; gorgeous album that one, great find. By the way Noby, did anything else half as good pop up on that label in the mean time?

Got it today too, Noby. Won't get a listen 'til the morning, but it looks intimidatingly obscure (a good thing). Is there a theme?

Maybe that is the theme! :D
Well anyway, I just gave it one fairly attentive listen, and boy did I enjoy it immensely. Fantastic stuff Noby, very different to everything else so far - a groundbreaking masterpiece to begin Series II, then. Real macabre feel off some of it, and if even half of the theme-related ambiguities I thought you might have been thinking you did indeed think then it was the best thing ever. Regardless, my warped mind's cravings were sated by something other than a crossword, which is nice. I'll say no more for now, just that Pat's intuition was spot on: This is an intriguing, magical package. Thank you. :)
There was kind of a theme in mind, but it sort of wandered a bit when I was putting it together. Especially the last section.
Definitely the yin to my first cds poppy yang.

Oh dear. :o
So I was a wee bit unsophisticated then expecting themes like 'songs beginning with B' or 'all wimmin, innit'?
Ah sod it, too late now!

Will burn them over the weekend.
Need your new address too jebus.
So I was a wee bit unsophisticated then expecting themes like 'songs beginning with B' or 'all wimmin, innit'?
Oh I went through those kind of options too.
I was going to do a 'User Names' theme, but I'll leave that to someone else.
I've been asked to do a dj slot for a 40th in December, so there's a fair chance my round three will be a ska/soul offering (presuming there will be a round three).
EDIT: I'll pm you Jebus' new address.

For something a bit off the wall I also got Strap The Button.
Listened to the album Going to Jib Choons (Choons for Going to Jib Like Innit) a good couple of times and quite like it, middling sort of, though the Pink-Panther-like 'Mystery Song' is very good! Might try their other album too. As you say they're fairly different, though some of the album is in the vein, if a slightly darker vein, of The Redneck Manifesto (one of their songs was on my first CD, you may recall). I'll try keep an eye on that label as well - see if anything else decent turns up, and report back if so.
so there's a fair chance my round three will be a ska/soul offering (presuming there will be a round three).
If you're promising a ska/soul offering I'll definitely hang around anyway. :)
I've listened to Noby's Sophomore Slump a few times now (am I then only one!?) but don't want to say too much 'til the others have had a listen. For now you might advise me as to whether the album Beirut's 'Gulag Orkesar' is off is as good as that song? Similarly crazy style throughout? Recommended overall?
Finally, and primarily though not exclusively FAO Stann, I was listening to Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso yesterday when it struck me that one of my favourite songs from the whole of the first round (Ty's 'Ha Ha' on Declining Stanndards) distinctively borrows its opening from Veloso's song 'Alegria, Alegria', off the Tropicália album. Always love discovering cheeky little samples. I'll attach a YouTube video as irrefutable evidence. It's just the start, but 'Alegria, Alegria' is such a cracking song you should listen through, and then you'll be rewarded with the sampled bit at the end again. Enjoy. :)

I'm having my second listen to it as we speak, initial highlights include the Palace Brothers track (never heard of 'em, will check them out now), remembering good times listening to the Red House Painters many moons ago, ditto Tindersticks, Bonnie Prince Billy (never a bad thing) and the We Show Up On The Radar song. Good stuff so far and I;m sure I'll have more thoughts on it with upcoming listens :)

So that's the voice in my head then? Aha.
By the way Palace Brother is Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, and vice versa too. All sorts of mad goings-on today eh.
The Bonnie 'Prince' Billy song is from his album "Bonnie 'Prince' Billy Sings Greatest Palace Music" where Will Oldham, as BPB sings his Palace songs. Confusing?
He went under various 'Palace' monikers early on (Palace Brothers, Palace Music, Palace songs).
It was also a sneaky way to get two of his songs on the cd.

Very confusing! What's his next name gonna be - The Prince of Confusion?
And if I can try be helpful too, Jebus you can download the We Show Up On Radar album for free, and legally, if you follow this link to a label that releases free music (http://recordsonribs.com/artists/weshowuponradar/growing/). Highly recommended.

I'm laying the blame more at Noby's door to be honest, after all if he hadn't included the two of them we would've lived on in blissful ignorance. But no. I hope you're happy Noby. :(
Very.
All the songs on '...sings greatest palace music' are up-beat country versions of their lo-fi originals. There is a version of 'You will miss me...' on the album. I was tempted to put them back-to-back.
As for Beirut, the album follows the same vein and form. It's basically the band of a 22 year old American guy. He's been releasing albums sice he was 15 (everything from DooWop to this), and was 20 when this came out. The freak. Highly recommended
As for the cd, glad An Post are doing such a good job, so I guess it's safe to stick up the tracklist now:
A bit more downtempo, brooding, introspective and so on than I'd be used to, noby, but none the worse for that, say I.
Just picking a few random highlights, I knew nothing of the Palace Brothers bar hearing the name, but like it a lot. And any mix CD with Big Star and Tindersticks on it is proceeding along the right lines. And then a big, big finish. Good stuff! :)
Would you believe I didn't have 'Be Thankful' anywhere (only the Massive Attack version), so doubly delighted that's there. What a song!

Yep, that's it, no question, good spot!
I too like coming across samples like that, specially ones that have been properly reworked, like that Lulu song into Fatboy Slim's Santa Cruz, or little fleeting ones like the 'Fun baby' from White Lines that's the backbone of Fun Does Not Exist, the Natacha Atlas tune.
Or the daft music that MNS play for their highlights that I came across by accident a few months back! :D
Mad coincidence, but having never heard of the chap before (to my shame), I've just been checking out Caetano Veloso for my mix too, though the tune didn't quite make it in the end. It might give you an sneak preview of the theme though, as to what tune of his I'd be likely to have heard about. ;)
Just to let ye know, tracklist is decided, final test pressing turned out not quite as bad as all the others, so depending on me getting them all burned tonight and getting time to get the jiffybags filled and addressed tomorrow morning before work they should be in the post by then. If not then first thing Wednesday.

Gee yeah, very strange coincidence alright. Anyway, I've spent a couple of minutes trying to demist that somewhat opaque clue, and came to the conclusion that it was Veloso's version of 'Ave Maria' that you (a priest I assume?) left out of Spiritual Songs from Saint Stannislaus. Correct? :D
Ok, maybe not. In the unlikely event I'm wrong, I think Guess 2 will crack the code.
I'm imagining it may be an expression of a different kind of devotion, p'raps a more appropriate one. If my hunch is straight it's a great idea, and I can understand why you didn't pick the song in question - the mood might have strangely been a little more off-colour than needed to be. Instead I'm assuming a c.2000 euro-dance classic will be the title track. Of course I could be completely wrong, but I'll be blue in the face if I try to guess a connection with all his songs! Looking forward to it anyway. :)

Should have said nothing, as that sounds much better than anything I meant! :D
Genning up on the chap a bit I see there's quite a back catalogue to choose from, so that wasn't the best of clues maybe. The song in question is quite well known and is in English, that may be a better clue. :)

F*ck it, this is worse than guessing Christmas presents! Not sure if you understood my last post now, so I'll elucidate: Because of the wink, I took your initial clue to imply that there was some song particularly relevant to you, leading me straight to 'A Little More Blue' - ie Waterford United! Was almost certain that was what you were going for, and, truly cunningly, I even thought of the little 'blue in the face' pun/hint to play along.
So obviously then the title track I had in mind was Eiffel 65's "I'm Blue". Thought it was a bit cheesy alright but brilliant nonetheless. :D
Can't really make any logical connection now. Good game though. And anyway a surprise it should be and a surprise it will be!

F*ck it, this is worse than guessing Christmas presents!....
That's way too complicated for me! :D
Nah the song I was on about was Come As You Are, first off I didn't realise he had such a large body of work, and then didn't realise he'd done so many covers, so the clues were very poor at every stage!
Anyway, the discs are away this morning!
Cover versions is the theme.
Not the well known ones, no point in filling it with stuff ye already have. Hopefully most of ye won't have (heard) most of these. But they are all songs you'll know.
Only a couple of straight covers too, I like them when the genres get a bit mixed up.
Unless you're dead inside, at least one of them should put a three foot smile on your faces. :)
When you get the discs the song titles are concealed so if you like you can keep the element of surprise through the first listen, that's what I would do.
Oh and the first track has pretty rough lyrics. I wouldn't have kids around, or, to be honest, any woman I'd remotely care about offending. :D
Arrived this morning. I had a quick run through at lunch time, but I'll give it a proper listen later. Good first impression. I like the idea of the concealed track list. I must admit when I saw the Fall I guessed the song, even though you could do a cd of Fall covers. That isn't a criticism, by the way; more a lucky guess.

Was thinking that people might assume the Fall cover was Victoria or There's A Ghost In My House or something - am not an uber Fall fan (I like them a lot, just don't know that many of their huge number of tunes) so had only heard that one a couple of months ago.
Anyway, to maintain the element of surprise a little longer will hold off on the tracklist for a bit.
