S.Reid, Miller, Ireland, Duff, McGeady, A.Reid, Hunt, Hoolahan, Kilbane, Murphy
That's 10 wingers on the squad who are all more experienced than Lawerence and are likely to be chosen ahead of him. The only possible exception being Wes.
You can argue bla bla championship goals bla bla all day or that right wing isn't some of the above's "natural" positions if you like but heck they're still going to be chosen ahead of him and will probably do better too, reality is that he's at best 11th winger in line so there's no reason to include him.
How many times have you seen Lawrence play? Try to be honest now: once, twice...? As for arguing against your point, you've proved in the past that your rants don't stand up to reasoned analysis by multiple posters.

Lawrence should be in the 11 ( the top player in the Championship - statistically [5 Live]), never mind the 40. I can't believe he is not in there.
Sean St Ledger should also be in there.

If you think some championship schmo is better than Duff or McGeady it's time to find a new hobby. This sport isn't for you. ;)
McGeady can play in the hole, behind the front striker. When he first came on to the scene I thought this looked like a position that he would excel in but as far as I'm aware he hasn't played there much, so if this were to happen Lawrence could easily fit on the right hand side. Besides, as has been debated for eons on this site, McGeady hasn't set the world alight with Ireland (yet) and also Duff isn't playing for Newcastle (currently) and hasn't been at his sharpest since coming back from injury. And as usual you resort to insulting people. Nice.
Andy Reid played in the Championship until very recently and whether he's playing in the Championship or not he is IMO miles better than most of our other options.

Do you think the SPL is a higher standard than the Championship?
Also when was the last time David Connolly actually scored a goal?
Do you really want to know? 9th September 2003 vs Turkey :P
cant believe Lawrence hasnt been given a chance to show what he can do... otherwise a decent squad.
Givens Out.

He meant for his club, that isn't fair when he has only played once since 2003 (and for one minute, against Cyprus).
He scored twice for the reserves the 2nd to last time he played. He had an assist and set up a goal the last time he played. He also hit the post against Falkirk in a friendly.
One statistic that most people here don't know
Of the 9 times Connolly has played 90 minutes for Ireland, he has scored in 5 of them...he only played 77 minutes against Liechtenstein.
Point is he's often a sub

You need help - I mean of all the players to be obsessed with, why David Connolly?
I'd like to see David Connolly (or any player) do well for Ireland, but not at the expense of players who deserve their place more...how can he play ahead of Morrison, Doyle, Long, Murphy and others? Trundle gets more playing time than he does.

Up and down the leagues, I'd bet I know more than you do about English, Caribbean, and African football, unfortunately thats not what this forum is about. With MNS, however, I'm starting to know more about LoI. Also, I bet I can name more Irish players up and down the leagues in England (and the teams the play for) than you can, probably more than anyone here, except perhaps maybe tetsujin :)

Who are the only two players to score for Montserrat in WC Qualifiers?
Who is Zimbabwe's alltime goalscoring leader?
Who manages Yeovil Town?
Please, no Wikipedia
Edit: remembered another good one
Who are the three Caribbean teams to make the World Cup and what years did they do it in?
I'd guess we'd better go the PMs as well

Disappointed for Lawrence. His form justifies inclusion.
Shocked that DC has been named in the list, reserve football since January should not merit a place. Folan has been doing well at Hull and was worth a look IMO.

well that's even worse then. Calling him up is a waste of time IMO. Liam Miller needs booting out as well at the final cut. We need players who are playing regular football for their clubs.

I'd guess to point is to let him and Ireland know that if he does well, probably either in the CCC or EPL he will be considered, something Stan never did (and we all know how that turned out). Who knows, if he is fit by the training camp in May and does well there...

I only noticed the omission of James McCarthy from Hamilton Academicals. I thought he'd be there seeing as it's a 40 man squad.

I played for Hamilton Academicals once, true story. Few lads were kicking a ball around in a park and someone miss hit it over the coke can corner flag, so i kicked it back over to them. Turned out they weren't playing strict on the ould touchlines and I was awarded an assist.

The ill-fated Steve Staunton Republic of Ireland regime may be a thing of the past but the new management team have already embarrassed themselves for the first time after trying to coax an ineligible player into the squad.
Giovanni Trapattoni’s team had been keen to convince Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara to switch allegiances from England to Ireland, with assistant Liam Brady having spoken this week of his correspondence with the player and his will to set up a meeting between O’Hara and Ireland’s new Italian chief.
However, O’Hara is not eligible for Ireland. The midfielder – who has impressed when given the nod at White Hart Lane this term – played for England in a European U17 Championships qualifier in March 2003 and needed to declare for Ireland before his 21st birthday last September to be allowed to play for The Boys in Green.
Oblivious to this, Brady spoke this week of the player being receptive to an approach from Trapattoni’s team, saying: “His grandma and grandpa are from Ireland and I’ve asked him not to be hasty in playing for England in a European Championship game that will be coming up.
“I think he is receptive, but I’d like him to meet the manager – he’s the one you want to hear it from, not the assistant, but the kid was pleased to get the call.”
But, The Football Association of Ireland were forced into releasing a statement on Saturday evening, saying: “As he [O’Hara] turned 21 on September 25 last, he can’t apply for a change of nationality.
“Liam hadn’t been made aware of the 21st birthday rule.”
O’Hara made his debut for the England U21 side in a 0-0 draw with Poland last month, but is yet to taste competitive action at that level.

Defensive options are despairing, could definitely of done with calling up more defenders in the hope of unearthing one that can do a job.
I think Gary Doherty should of at least got a call up,playing regular ball for Norwich at the moment.

Why? He's useless. We've established that he's useless. He's neither a defender nor a forward. Unlike Norwich we can't just play people because they're lanky gits.

That is sad, do any of these football guys have an IQ over 100? Where has he been for the past 10 years? FFS ask any Irish Granny and she'll be able to tell you about eligibility. How much is getting paid again?
I'm disappointed not to see Alan O'Brien & Jonathan Douglas.

He should know the rule, but in fairness, the 21st birthday rule is relatively new, and is certainly not 10 years old. It came in around 2005.

Well, you ****s can likely rejoice now, Connolly is hurt which I'd bet renders him unavailable for the training camp, which would be his only chance to get into the final team considering his form doesnt exist
from BBC report on Stoke - Bristol City
"Mamady Sidibe put Stoke ahead in the 14th minute when he headed home Liam Lawrence's precise free-kick. "
he was also booked but its hard to see how he can not be in the top 40 players that can play for ireland. Hes having a great season in a pretty decent team.

Cheer up, Worm. He'll be back - there's always the 2012 squad!!!
I'd imagine there'll be a cyborg version of Connolly for the 2070 World Cup Squad.
Adjustable leg heights will be standard - so he could make that currently unlikely target man role his own!!! :)

I would have liked to see Lawrence there too, but surely Miller and Stokes should be in a 40 man squad, especially Stokes, I know he hasn't had a great season but I think thats partly because Keane doesn't know how to get the best out of him, he ain't a winger ffs, what is it with Keane and playing forwards on the wing?

Liam Lawrence was born in Retford and qualifies for Ireland because of his Irish grandfather, who came from Kerry. He played with Mansfield Town before joining Sunderland for Ł175,000 in June 2004 and in his first season he made 20 appearances, scored six goals and helped them win promotion to the Premiership. He was an ever-present in 2005/06 season when Sunderland again fell back into the Championship. He has been a member of Ireland’s panel since Stephen Staunton took over as manager. He moved to Stoke City on loan in November 2006 and the transfer was completed in January 2007. He has not figured with Ireland since the squad went to training camp in the Algarve in the summer of the same year.

Paul, He has improved and improved a lot. I have seen a good bit of McCarthy including a few MOTM performances and I believe him to be a better player than McShane, but this is only my opinion of course. We are in trouble if we have to rely on O'Shea to bail us out if required. We need to have backup for Dunne which we don't at present, therefore I suggest both McCarthy and St Ledger. We also need a left back hence Delaney
