Heard rumours that there will be a few new additions this year. Claremorris, K & K United and Ballinrobe are looking at entering "B" teams. With Mulranny & Ballyheane coming down, it will be a seriously hard league to get out of again. K & K United, Erris and Ballina Town "B" were very strong last year, and with two clubs in Super League submitting second teams, it will be much stronger next year. Castlebar Celtic "C", Castlebar Town, Swinford "B" & Clew Bay were not too far off the mark and will have to be in the shake-up this year.
How do ye think ye'll do Pixie? If the influx of players arrive that's rumoured to be arriving, ye will surely have a say in the promotion race?

Ya the B team will be alot stronger than last year if players are willing to Play reserve and wait for the call up. From the feedback ive been hearing training has been discribed as "unreal" "seriously Tough but First Class". There seems to be a great buzz from what i hear. With the Bs training with the First team they have a real chance this year as fitness levels will be top class

how many teams are there going to be in div 2 this year. any new players dropping down, i heard that ginnelly is back with glenisland after a year in the super league. surely that will help their cause. have k+k enough players for a 2nd team and have the town lost any players to celtic b or anyone else

I wouldn't count on Ballyheane B being entered just yet, They may just put one team in the Mayo League. concentrate all out assult on S.L.

more than lighty go with U-18 team rebuilt a stronger B team for the following year.

Lost a couple of the older uys but pretty much the same. Still a lot of young plaers - 8-9 U18s in the squad. Still in a building process here is a big gap in age groups we have a gap in the 23 - 30 age group.

Ballyvary BB 3 4 Castlebar Town

Very open game - shaky defending. This was our first game of the season so we were reasonably happy with the perfomance. Unfortunately we haven't lost the habit of conceding silly goals.

A number of our younger players showed well in the game. This was the Town's 4th game so they were bound to be that bit sharper.

Both teams have a lot of work to do if we want to be challenging for promotion.

Town have had 4 warm up games so far, only losing 1 of those. It's looking quite promising for the new season. Having made a few new additions and with some old players returning, here's hoping Town can mount a serious challenge for promotion and some silverware this season!
Any news on the teams in each division?

Very young team this time around. Leo has retired - still trying to coax the other two boys back - we'll see what happens. Trying to build for the future some very handy young guys but lack of experience may work against them when the come up against some of the teams.

Martin McKeown and Vincent mcHale over the team this season.

MAFL AGM on Thursday next 28th so we should know how the division will be structured and who will be in A & B sections. There won't be as much travelling as last year with Erris B (promoted) and Valley Rovers (pulled out) no longer there.

The new divs for 2008 are on the connaught but its misprinted, it only gives the super, prem and div 2 b
div2 b is hollister ,castlebar town, clarmorris b,manulla c,ballyglass b,mulranny ,glenisland ,cross, swinford b and knock\kiltimagh b so all the rest are div 2a ,castlebar town and mulranny have good chances for promotion

That's 10 in div 2b, seems to be on the high side. It would only leave 7 in 2a unless there are more new teams.

although the ever-efficient connaught telegraph didnt bother to proof read the article it seems that div 2a will consist of Ballyvary, Castlebar Celtic C, Conn Rangers, Clew Bay, Snugboro B, Straide n Foxford B, Westport United C and maybe others that have been cut due to excellent editing!!!

If there are 10 in the group there will only be 2 rounds of games so you'll end up with three less games than last year.

I presume there will be more than 7 in 2A names must have been omitted. Surely they will balance them out. Will know more about it after AGM tonight.

would have to agree with you on that one alright.went training with them a few weeks ago and they've strengthened their team whilst losing none of the lads that tey had last year.if they can hit the ground running then i'd say they could well be the team to beat (famous last words!;))can also see the likes of castlebar putting a big effort again this year-they'll surely feel very aggrieved after last year when clew bay beat them to second place in the league.will be interesting to see the quality of the new teams coming into the division this year-particularly westport c and manulla c.will these teams have to give a seperate panel to the league or will players be allowed to jump from team to team depending on how one team is getting on?feel this needs to be addressed at the agm tonight.and before anyone asks no i won't be there as am not in mayo at the mo but hope something will be suggested

There are rules in place, in order to protect smaller clubs. Player playing with C Team would not be considered good enough to play higher than B status.
Should a player wish to play with the A Team Would have to transfer too A STATUS. Unable to play with C/B team.
Hope this helps:ball:

Div 2A will be made up of 9 teams:

Ballyvary BB, Ballina Utd, Ballyheane B, Celtic C, Conn Rangers, Clew Bay, Snugboro B, S&F B, Westport C

Pretty tough division I would think Clew Bay, Conn Rangers and Snugboro B are the favourites for the top spots.

At least there isn't much travelling involved this time around - Louisbourgh the furthest.

I think there are just 16 games i.e. play each other twice. Should be finished by the end of September apart from playoffs.

Div 2b seems relatively easier with only two teams really in with a chance of getting promoted whilst there seems to be 4r5 in Div 2a.
2a 2b.
1. Clew Bay 1. Mulranny
2. Conn Rangers 2. Castlebar Town
3. Ballyvary 3. Glenisland

It actually finished 2-2 and I'm afraid both teams will have to improve a lot if they want to compete within their respective sections but the potential is there.
