we should break the bank and try to get O'Neill...perfect for the job..he should be approached again anyway despite a high possibility of refusal...As with any job, you should always try to get the best suitable first, and then, if needs be, due to no other choice approach the venables and Hodgsons of this world..

Im not a great fan of O'Neill.....But i would take him ahead of the names that are mentioned - Venables - ....Dont think theres much of a chance we could get O'Neill. But i agree with your idea of aiming to get the best, so what if we get knocked back by a few

Mark Hughes? :)

Well, he's hinted he would be willing to return to international management sometime in the future. Whether he'll want to manage us again, remains to be seen.

I would certainly not mind having him back again sometime, though.

I can't believe people are seriously considering protesting against TV before he even gets the job or has played a game. It's ridiculous!!
TV would not be my first choice but I'm willing to give him a chance if and when he gets the job. If he does get the job then he should be judged on the results and performance of the team.

Is the correct answer. We had this with Charlton when he took over. Had to endure the "go home union Jack" shouts from the corner of the south Terrace in my usual standing spot while the majority of the fans trusted their eyes. He didn't go home for awhile after that!

Interesting that many are willing to protest against TV, but were willing to get behind Stan. Frankly shows very poor judgement.

I was never once behind Stan. Behind in this case meaning backing him as manager

We can call off the protest now, its obious that Venables is not getting the job.

Even if he does, he will live with the knowledge that nobody wanted him in the first place and he was like the fourth choice after Coppell, Houllier and Trap.

I certainly would not want a job if i knew that i was fourth favourite

I wouldn't support a protest. It's obvious now that they've considered other candidates and that was my main objection in the first place. I think Venables could do a good job, but I think there are/were better candidates. Now that these are seemingly ruled out (Coppell, Houllier...) then Venables' appointment would be fine. At least they tried to get others, albeit in the most extraordinarily convoluted shambles of a process.

There's a million reasons as to why TV would take the job regardless. :)

I'm not too sure. There was a strong leaning towards TV from the off and I think this has coloured the whole selection process. TV was/is the Panel's choice and interviewing other candidates was done more out of obligation to the process rather than subjectively evaluating each candidate's merits. The emergence of the latest candidate, for example, wasn't of the Panel's doing. It now appears that the Panel is being directed as opposition is growing within the FAI to the Panel's choice of TV.

I would. Each to their own I suppose. ;)

Thanks for the heads up.

You're mistakenly assuming he would have some pride were the offer to be made.

"Fourth Favourite you say, eh? I'll be over Monday. Have the fee in 20's on me hotel bed when I arrive. "
