Of course, Gerrard and Kuyt were lauded last night, having been described previously as "a nothing player" and a "donkey" respectively before.

Kuyt wasn't lauded, really. He was praised for being an honest player full of heart, but criticised for being relatively talentless.

I agree aboout the misnaming of players though. Giles said "Marciano" instead of Mascherano. And Dunphy with "Ivanisevic"

He doesn't claim to watch Italian football does he? I know he says he sits at home watching La Liga on Sky but he hardly claims to watch Serie A on streams does he?
RTÉ and Bill seem to reckon he's the Irish expert on every league outside of England (except the LoI, of course).

Doubt he watches much of La Liga either, some of the comments he comes out with on established players are ludicrous. Every team seem to be "terrible at the back".

Another great pointless "I knew it all along!" from Dunphy.

first half of that is Keano is not cut out for it, "he's lost the plot" etc..etc..

The final comments are he is very shrewd, intelligent and will make a decision which benefits himself.

I dont hear much of Dunphy being based in England but from reading this thread and the snippets on Youtube etc....He's just a ****, albeit a mindly entertaining one.

Isnt there some stat that you will spend twice as long watching someone you hate over someone you like. I think there is a lot of lets see what he will say tonight with people and they do tune in for his rants and he rarely fails to deliver some nonsense or other.

Dunphy and Keane are cut from the same cloth. They are not the type you could depend on to stick it out when the going gets tough.

A good insight into those two there.

Dunny(sic, maybe we should start calling our toilets dunphys)gets something right once in a blue moon.
His most recent comments on Roy Keane are correct.

Dunphy is a combination of Statler and Waldorf. Great, the best, ok, not very good, rubbish.

Dunphy is a slippery individual, completely undependable. It suited Keane to have him (Dunphy) calling him selfless, intelligent etc. What a load of crap.
What about the sad people who buy into this intelligent line on Keane? I believe it says more about them than anything else.

Dunphy lauded in the Guardian's Joy of Six. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2010/nov/12/the-joy-of-six-football-pundits)

It's a fair shout. Never have been so entertained by someone who's opinion I despise. Here's to you Eamon (until the next time you cause me to throw a beer can at the TV in anger).

Nomination is kinda tainted by mention of Garth Crooks though

They're crying out for any kind of eccentricity - good or bad - in English punditry which possibly makes Crooks' rubbishness endearing.

You'll note they never mentioned the infamous comment of "That's the first time you'll ever see 2 men having sex on the BBC", maybe Crooks wouldn't have been in it if they had.
The best thing he ever did, baby.

The closest (closet!) thing to seeing sex between two men on RTE is Giles and Dunphy over the past 25 years. They had a lovers tiff in 2002 but kissed and made up but now they just love each other again and flirt and agree with each other all the time. Laughing Bill is a voyeur who likes to look on.

Haha, I was just going to post that. I dont get to see much of the 'Dunphy & Giles' show being based in Manchester (Im blessed with Sky and the inane ramblings of Stan or the likes) but one thing is for sure, from reading this forum over the years, owlsfan has most definitely got a picture of 'the' holy trinity pinned to a dartboard on his bedroom wall. :)

I can see the "Holy Trinity" bowing out after the Euro's. Sadlier, Cunningham and Moloney are the new crew. Sadlier in the Dunphy role, but less tabloid.

No matter how mental, deranged and OTT Dunphy can get after games I'd still rather listen to him than Andy 'I'm mates with JT, Gerrard and Rooney and I'll never have a bad word said about them' Gray, Jamie Redknapp, Shearer and Lawro.

Sounness (despite being a crap manager) and the guy from La Liga coverage I rate. The rest are way below par.

Owls Fan's missus probably has a mesh guard in place to protect the tv whenever the Holy Trinity are due to appear.
Similar to the one that protected the Blues Brothers when they played at that hick bar.

Dunphy was on form last night again saying Real Madrid definitely wouldn't win the Champs League because their defence is useless and when it was pointed out to him that they are doing well this season it's only cos La Liga isn't great either..

Is La Liga that good? My impression from hearing Sid Lowe that it isn't outside the top two, but can't say I've seen many games...

he then went on to be his usual professional self towards the end of the show.
I think I pressed record on the phone a bit early! the last part of the video has dunphy and then brady messing in the background while Con is doing his stuff at the front of the studio

I did find it funny when dunphy insisted barca will 'kill' madrid on Monday, and if they should meet later in the CL

Regardless of your opinion of them they are still the best analysis team in the world. I also like Souness as well.
When ya get Bill and the big 4 together it's a special thing. Makes the summer championships for me.

Let's not forget the genius of Didi Hamann and Ossie this summer gone.
The difference between Sky Sports Souness and RTÉ Souness is spectacular.

Paul Collins as Man City score against Stoke: "Just about deserve the lead on the balance of play" Stoke equalise 10 minutes or so later:Paul Collins "Well deserved equaliser for Stoke on the balance of play over 90 minutes" ??

Jeff Stelling on Sky "There has been a giant killing as Dover beat Aldershot".

Now I know that a pigmy looks likes a giant to an ant but really!

I enjoy Soccer Saturday but seeing Phil Thompson almost going in to ecstacy as Wigan or Fulham have a shot on goal is such a joke or as Paul Merson said yesterday about one of the Bolton goals "Best goal he has ever seen". As for Kami: "Unbelievable Jeff". Is this a wind up that he starts every report like this?

Bring back Dunphy ;)

It is, but when they play the top two, there is not much they can do. Though Valencia and Villareal v Barcelona this season were cracking games. Real haven't played anyone really until tonight..

I would estimate that virtually every club side in the world would have been made to look bad by Barcelona the way they played on Monday night

Was anyone watching the Twente vs Spurs game last night? Jermaine Jenus is walking off the field to receive treatment (no limp or anything). Our 'Arry (the next manager of England apparently) points to the ground and Jenus sits down to receive treatment to give the sub time to get ready. After the treatment he walks off (this time with a limp) but the referee books him for obvious time wasting. The commentators say this is outrageous - that he's got a double punishment being injured and booked, failing totally to notice the gamesmanship involved.

Good game though ;)
