Classic Dunphy contradiction last night. The panel were giving out stink about the media circus outside the hotel where they thought the meeting was going to be and that this was humiliating for Stan and should be done in private. Dunphy then said, "Typical of the FAI and the incompetents up there, who couldn't organise it. This is the sort of people they are" or words to that effect.
Then when it was shown that the FAI had actually held the meeting in secret with Stan who had therefore avoided the glare of the cameras as they had suggested should happen in the first place, out pops Dunphy with the words "Typical of the FAI and the incompetents up there, who organised it. This is the sort of people they are and why they hate the fans and the media" or words to that effect.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

no owl it was Brady that was giving out stink...when the lads started mentioning George graham and Ron Atkinson I had to laugh, just as well they arnt on the selection panel...Big Racist Ron is hardly the man the FAI need to spearhead their new PR campaign..

Big Ron? Dear lord.
if you we end up with Big Ron, Graham, Sounness, O'Leary, Whelan, Moran, Megson, Stapleton and co then we are truly ****ed for another 3 years. We'd be better off re-employing Stan. None of those names above are remotely good enough to take a team to a world cup finals.

I hear they are employing a team of eperts to appoint a new manager...they did that with stans appointment, one of those experts was 'Brian Hamilton', a part time eurosports comentator as dunphy pointed out..

they did it with the Kerr appointment. and is it not gerry armstrong who does Eurosport(or did) and a hell of a lot better than anything rte have to offer...

Hamilton was involved in Kerr's appointment only. It was the "3 man committee" (i.e Delaney) behind Staunton's appointment...

why don't the FAI just put a poll up here on foot.ie. I'd back it over anything the media or opinions from the so called experts.

Yeah Hamilton who was for Kerrs appointment. Gerry Armstrong is a great pundit by the way. Himself and Kerr were top class for the 2004 Euro Champinoships I think or it could have been the 2002 World Cup. Really knew his European football and players all around Europe. Should be used as a scout by the next manager in my view.

Yes he was but the Dumpster agreed with him that the FAI should have done the whole thing behind closed doors and then when they did, he castigated them for doing it because they "hate the fans and the media". Wasn't he also a big fan of Delaney once upon a time

People on here are obsessed with what he says. When was the last time you saw this messiah on any TV channel that wasn't Irish?
BBC, UTV or SKy are hardly going to have him on because they dont want any pundits who might dare express a controversial opinion. Wheteher you agree with him or not, at least he he is not afraid to speak his mind. And just because we dont see him on non Irish channels means what??

Talking rubbish again on RTE tonight. Contradicted himself and had to say he was wrong and would only go for the FAIs plan if it meant John and Liam were the people picking the manager.
His argument had way too many flaws. Again John Giles and Liam Brady were spot on but Giles suffers from not doing his research on enough managers. His Theory is right but he does not know enough names of top coaches around Europe.

What did Giles and Brady say NeilMcd?
NeilMcD
24/10/2007, 6:49 PM
Giles said he agreed with the FAI and said that getting footballing people in to pick the manager was the right idea. But it depends on which footballing people they are. They also said that we should really follow a model were ex players are actually on the pay roll of the FAI Full time and are involved in the Association and help with picking the manager so they are automatically part of the selection comittee.
Brady said he would be ruled out of teh job as he does not have enough top level experience. But if they found that they could not get a top level coach he would be intersted in the job.
They all understood Dunphys fear that the FAI will get a selection committee of fools but Dunphys logic did not stand up as he said he did not trust the FAI to pick the right men to pick the manager so therefore they should pick the manager themselves. No logic in that at all.

Spot on. And he keeps coming out with them. Remember, after Brian Kerrs first game in charge it was Dunphy who described him as not only the best Irish coach in twenty years, but the first Proper coach in that time. Now he wants the FAI to break the bank and get the very best that's out there. And what is his idea of the very best ? Lippi, Capello, Hiddink ? No, Paul Jewell or George Graham. Ha ha, and again, ha.

Paul Jewell or George Graham. Ha ha, and again, ha.
My only experience of Paul Jewell, hotly touted by Leather Face himself:
From Wikipedia:
Jewell had been hoping to mount a promotion challenge in 2000-01 with Wednesday but after enduring a torrid eight months in charge was sacked in February 2001 with the debt-ridden Hillsborough club struggling near the foot of Division One. He won only 2 of his last 13 games in charge and he struggled with big-earning players not producing on the pitch with one international (Wim Jonk) guaranteed £5,000 per match whether he played or not and another (Gilles De Bilde) refusing to go out on loan because he would have no-one to look after his dogs. Jewell should have seen the writing on the wall when goalkeeper Kevin Pressman was sent off after 13 seconds of his first match in charge at Wolverhampton Wanderers. His undoubted highlight was the 2-1 League Cup victory over local rivals Sheffield United and victory over Premier League West Ham United.

Sorry but have you not watched any other football other than Wednesday. Surely you can base your opinion on more than just his record at Wednesday. I dont think he is perfect for the job either but surely his record at Wigan and Bradford should come into it more.

I was concerned with the comments at the end
I hope I am quoting right
'select a panel and the cirus starts all over again'
One thing which worried me with the whole stan thing was the vicious assault the media made on Stan. I appreciate that the severity of the situation and the quality of the performance, but it has me extremely worried. The comments seem to me (and please correct me if I'm wrong) no matter what manager is selected, the process will be critised and the new manager from the word 'go' is undermined.
Sometimes in small doses a hard word in the press is a good thing but constant barrage will only result in one thing - bad performances and bad results.
People have to appreciate that the crowd listen to the media, the players listen the media and the manager listen to the media.
If the media are constantly critical of the team will just end up like England - desperate under achievers.
Who ever takes over - dunphy RELAX, constructive critism is welcome but use of the words 'joke' 'circus' 'clown', 'pharse' are not welcome, saying someone played out of position is ok but leave it at that.
Saying they are professionals and can take it is rubbish, the fans will interpret this as the player is not giving it 100% and will get on his back instead of supporting him
I couldnt give a rats ass about the FAI administration and concils, I hope I never hear an Irish team boo'ed on their turf again, absolute low point in Irish soccer.
Support the TEAM, support the MANAGER and support your COUNTRY

I have of course but one's personal experiences are always better than vicarious experiences. He did well at mediocre clubs like Wigan and Bradford. He wasn't up to the job at a bigger club like Wednesday unlike Big Jack who rescued them from oblivion (heading back in that direction).
Just wondering why Coco the Clown thinks he's the bees' knees. 6 months in to the job he'll be calling for his head of that you can be sure.
Armando, I take your point but he was unable to deal with these issues.

He reached a new low last night. It was cringeworthy stuff. The two of them actually dismissed the one person with actual knowledge of Italian football (souness) because Dunphy watches La Liga on the box every weekend.

The really cringe-making stuff was when Laughing Bill congratulated Giles/Drunkphy on their part in helping to appoint Trappatoni  At least Giles had the good grace to say, other than his attempt to get Jewell appointed, he had no part in the process. I don't think Drunkphy's rants against Venables had any effect on the matter. As evidence by the polls in foot.ie, most fans were dead against the appointment and I suspect that was reflected in the FAI Board, otherwise he would have been appointed straight away. For Laughing Bill to publicly thank the two for their roll in the matter - well pass me the sick bucket.
