the guy is 110% effort
 N'est pas possible.
I thought it was a bad challenge when I first saw it. It's ok for us to comment after we see the slow motion. Ref only gets one look at it. Would you be moaning at the ref if McShane had scored after Dunne had blatantly fouled Czech?

well if you are such a rabid Ireland supporter surely that makes you an idiot no?
as has been pointed out a million times already on this thread...people admire the effort he puts in. nobody thinks he is the most skillful player ever but at a time when so many players commitment is in question(none more so than our "record goalscorer") its nice for the fans to see players who obviously want to play. You might think that going to all the matches lends your opinions weight but if you dont know anything bout football to begin with going to a million ireland matches wont help ya!
I dont believe that going to all the games give me any more weight at all. Its the drink that does that. If you believe that I know nothing about football well then fair enough thats your opinion. But at least I debate football on this forum and not just try to rise people and be the hurler on the ditch and be the cynic. I for one dont think that commitment is a problem with this IRish team one bit. Robbie Keane was breaking his balls out there covering for Hunt for the last half hour or so. It may have been misguided running and the team may be a shambles but I feel anybody who knows anything about football could cleary see that effort was not what this Irish team is lacking. Its a lazy criticism used by people who do not understand the game and think running with the ball is the only effort you can give. Football is much more complex than that.
I also dont believe I am a rabid fan whatsover. I go to the games both home and away and go to see Bohemians. No big deal thats what I do and I enjoy it.
What I dont understand is how Hunt has been raised to almost hero like statuds when he cost us a chance to get back in the game. I like him as a player and I think he should start ahead of McGeady in future but I am not going to go with the mob and put him on a pedestal. After the game the Irish fans sang many songs and it was quite good to get the game out of our system etc(not that it worked). Hunt had songs sung about him time and time again. To me the real hero of the 2 games was Richard Dunne. Hunt is a decent player but what I am having ago against is the almost instant herofication ( a new word there) of Stephen Hunt.

Yep that’s my opinion
But at least I debate football on this forum and not just try to rise people and be the hurler on the ditch and be the cynic. .
Mmmm bit at odds with your “Did Stephen Hunt let his country Down” and your “Irish fans are idiots” comments….….
I for one dont think that commitment is a problem with this IRish team one bit. Robbie Keane was breaking his balls out there covering for Hunt for the last half hour or so.
But in every match of this campaign so far apart from at home against San Marino he has failed to do the job he is on the pitch for….score goals. Hunt was sent off. This happens in football. The team adjusts its game accordingly. Compare Keanes huff and puff to Doyles intelligent play. If you had one chance and one chance only in a game you would back doyle everytime over Keane to score it
It may have been misguided running
yep!
and the team may be a shambles again yep!
but I feel anybody who knows anything about football could cleary see that effort was not what this Irish team is lacking.
mmmmmm maybe this applies to some players after the sending off….
Its a lazy criticism used by people who do not understand the game and think running with the ball is the only effort you can give. Football is much more complex than that.
Eh no. football is quite simple. Anyone who watched the game can draw their own conclusions. The world doesn’t lose out on many Nobel Prize winners to football!
I also dont believe I am a rabid fan whatsover. I go to the games both home and away and go to see Bohemians. No big deal thats what I do and I enjoy it.
your not. And nobody would be bothered by your new found love of bohs if ya didn’t spend most of your pre – bsc posts giving out about EL fans superiority complexs….

I am sorry it is bothering you but I am sure you will get over it. Also not sure where you are getting the BSC thing from.

……
What I gave out about what the snobbish attitude some EL fans had towards those that did not attend the League of Ireland. I have sinced found out from going to games over the last 2 years or so that this is a minority and most people are welcoming to people going to games on a regular basis and you cant beat regular live football. My only criticism before was of people who looked down on those who did not have an opportunity to support a League of Ireland team week in week out. I never slagged the League and would always have had an interest and gone every so often. Not sure where you are going with the BSC thing either. I like to deal in facts you on the other hand like to deal with personal agendas and been personal and spiteful in your attacks on me and others. If that is your agenda fair enough but I on the other hand like to talk about football.

Worst enalogy ever on this forum?
FWIW I thought he deserved to go and I think he's a dirty scummy little player. Constantly winding up opposition, leaving the boot in, throwing elbows and pulling jersies etc etc. He's also a damn fine player and way ahead of any other Irish midfielder in performance terms in England. (I think one or two may be more talented)
Did he let his country down? No, but he was still stupid for deliberately following through with his non tackling foot. And make no mistake, it was very deliberate
This to me is as good as a summary on him and a reply as you will get on this thread. It was one of the only fouls where we the viewer got to see exactly what was going on as a result of the camera angle and the positioning of the two players.
As soon as he turned in the direction of the ball I thought to myself "he's going to do Polak", and he did. The worst thing thing about it was that Polak didn't even have the ball! It was open play. IMO he deserved the Red card, there was no need for him to dive as he's nippy enough anyway. I do like him and think he will add a lot to the 'cause' but what he did was definitely reckless.

I like Stephen Hunt and I think he is a good player but like Dodge I feel he has a nasty side to his game that has an impact on his football and as a result it led to him getting sent off. Not personal at all as I dont know the guy. I deal in footballing issues and I believe his tackles and overly aggressive and sometimes nasty side is a drawback as well as a virtue for him.

When I hear the phrase "letting one's country down" I tend to think of massive tax fraud or selling nuclear secrets, not so much a mistimed tackle on a football pitch. Perspective anyone?

Its a football forum, of course it was meant in a footballing context. I would have thought that was obvious.

I see Hunt only got a 1 match ban. UEFA can't have thought the offence was that bad, and that speaks volumes in itself.

The FAI appealed the straight red and backed it up with video evidence.
The red stands, the decision is, the ref got it wrong but it was a clumsy tackle that looked a lot worse than what it actually was, therefore it looked like a straight red to the ref at that moment in time.

I think the official UEFA response was just that, adding in small print at the bottom of the disciplinerary committee meeting minutes that "hey, it's only a red, it's not as if he let his whole country down or anything" (in Swiss).

Thats got to be one of the most idiotic posts I've read here in over 4 years. To say it wasn't even a foul demonstrates to me that you know absolutely nothing about the game of football. Clown!!
i also think it wasnt a foul, the Czech player went down like he was shot
if it happened in england then it would be acceptable
it all depends on how you view football....................i love the art of defending and hard challenges, and do consider football a contact sport

How did it compare with the Mikel challenge at Old Trafford yesterday? R5 Live said it was a harsh red. The only snippet I saw on the news made me think it was easily a red, worse tackle than Hunt's by a mile, but can't say for sure.

I was a tad surprised at the straight red but it was worse than Hunt's. Mikel's foot was off the floor.

Doh! All the Man U players gathering around the ref didn't help his case either. The ref only gets one look at the foul and must call it as he sees it.
When I first saw the Hunt foul I thought "red". The video showed it to be a yellow. That's the life. Mistakes are made (ask the Celtic keeper).

Both of them. Worse tackle easily. It'd be a lenient ref who wouldn't have given that a red.
