By your logic animals DO have the same rights as humans or else you are being inconsistant in the application of said logic.

I agree that animals (or most of them) are of a higher life form than plants. However, I do not believe this means that plants therefore have less rights than animals. I believe all living things have a equal rights, with the exception of humans, of course.

They're some death defying logical acrobatics you are doing there.

We've already had this earlier in the thread. Vegetarians DO NOT EAT FISH!!! If you know someone who says they are a vegetarian and eats fish you are welcome to tell them from me that they are not.

Oooo that really gets to me, the amount of times I'm asked if I eat fish, no of course I don't. If I wanted to be a part time vegetarian I'd at least eat something dead that tasted nice.

Also people who think its a great idea to try to have arguements about the rights and wrongs of vegetarianism - it's not doing anything to affect anyone else (unless there is a passive smoking equivilent a kind of passive vegetarianism) so why are others so offended by a choice of a way of living. Sorry for getting to this one a few pages too late.

It works the other way round too, ye know. Taken full advantage by Donegal people with their distinct lack of traffic light and parking laws.

Aye, I notice that too. Apparently they [the governments] are planning on making penalty points system applicable cross-border. Just some difficulty because different offences carry different penalties north and south.

People who pronounce Niall as Nile. It should be pronounced the same as Neill. There's someone on this forum who pronouces his name Hamish as Ham-ish as in West Ham when he should pronounce Hame-ish as in "a Sheamuis". Hamish is derived from the Gaelic form of Seamuis.

I think what he means........

'The Galileo fly-bys revealed that it is the only body in the solar
system to glow -- the glow is due to electrified atmospheric sodium.
Other features include an Arizona-sized dark spot called the Pillan
Patera and the volcano Pele, which releases plumes 300 km high. Can you
name this Jovian moon, the most volcanic object in the solar system'.:D

I can't agree with you. Everyone who pronounces Niall as Neill as right and the ones who pronounce it as Nile are wrong. I'm not a fluent Irish speaker but I'm sure that pronouciation is wrong because the motto of my mother's clan the O'Connells is "Ciall agus Neart" meaning "sense and strength" and Ciall is pronouced as Keel.

Who really cares? IMO its down to the person who's name it is what way they want it to be pronounced.

Something else that bugs me:
People who "Reply all" when you send a forward mail even though they don't know half the people on the list.

People who send me e-mails saying that unless I forward this to seventeen people in the next 41 minutes, a little child is going to die somewhere. If I do forward them, Bill Gates will see that I've forwarded it and save the child.

Do people have no cop on at all?!?!?!

Thank you for bringing this up. The only thing that makes it more annoying is that somebody somewhere has tacked on an extra bit saying "it REALLY does work."

it really bugs me that over here, "Christmas" is now "festive season". so as not to offend other faiths and the likes...

Magicme
26/10/2006, 9:54 AM
I dont have a problem with that since Christmas is stolen from the Pagans anyways but like using the term God instead of any other variations on the being of light, Christmas is just as handy a name as any other for the festive season. But its not just Christmas day that whole week or 2 period would be more appropriately called the Festive Season.

Stolen from the pagans indeed, does the name not give you a clue, CHRIST mas.

Think you've fallen for the old cover up trick, Jamjar!

Christmas was indeed originally a pagan festival. However, when the Church was looking to get Christianity installed as the major religion in pagan places, they basically turned the existing pagan festivals into Christian ones. The pagan festival around 21st/25th December is an important one as it marks the winter solstice, the end of the worst of winter and the start of spring and new life. Nobody knows for sure when exactly Jesus was born - we can't even agree on what year it was, let alone an exact date - so the Church photoshopped Jesus and the concept of Christmas onto the existing pagan festival rather than try and work out when He was born and have the festival then. That way, pagans kept their traditional festival but now honoured Jesus rather than the earth.
