Usually embargoes are set by PR firms or representative, not the media - at least as I understand them. They're also entirely voluntary, and no media outlet is under any obligation to respect them. Any PR firm or rep that tries to make life awkward for a journo who does break an embargo is going to get short shrift, and rightly so.

They've been respected by the media for as long as I can remember. No paper or journalist will release quotes from the embargoed stories until they are published

Is there a proper journalist or media outlet thats running with something soon?

https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/international-soccer/a-simple-twist-of-family-fate-leads-enthusiastic-robinson-back-to-the-old-country-37530498.html
This is a great interview with Callum Robinson. I posted it here rather than in his own thread, just to illustrate how personal national identity is and why I think we shouldn't judge players who play underage in one country largely for convenience. Robinson played underage for England but always wanted to play for Ireland and bureaucracy got in the way.
I found it interesting that Alan Browne got involved, but not by contacting the FAI but by contacting a journalist.
And did anyone read the story this week about a Scots born rugby player who moved south to play for Newcastle, qualified after 3 years of residence to play for England, got called up by Eddie Jones - and I think but must check, even making the subs bench in one game - but never made a senior appearance, and is now back with Scotland? He told Gregor Townsend on his call up that he wasn't really committed to England anyway and always preferred Scotland! What an utter t0sser.
Anyway, Kelvin Davies at Southampton says Obafemi would be great for us (also today's Indo online).

Obafemi commits to Ireland. What in the name of God has MON been talking about these past few days. He is some spoofer.

Fair play to him. Welcome Michael!

If this is true - MON hung the lad out to dry yesterday.
A quick search on twitter and the abuse directed towards the lad was ignorant.

This is outrageous. Mon has lost control matter how you look at this

Could O'Neill have handled this any more clumsily than this ?
The lad has had to come out with a statement to avoid boos on his debut, for his country.
Great stuff Martin, work to be proud of.

so the question now is...does he go to Denmark?
No, they broke the embargo. That's not going to sit well with the established press corps, and could lead to them being refused press credentials for the next event

If MON picks him of course he goes. The agents statement is more than clear and I might add he has changed his "pinned header on twitter " from making his premier league debut. To a new pinned header of his first training session with the Irish team. His biggest danger to not going to Denmark is MON ego.

Good news, Did MON want him to declare his intent before considering him for this game against the North?
Do we call him Mick, or is it too soon?

Dreadful handling of the whole thing by O'Neill.
Great to see this. It is a great example also for other players of Nigerian backgrounds that have been born or lived in Ireland. The likes of Okoflex will hopefully follow suit.

Other than what was said in press conferences, we really don't know what O'Neill did. It could have been him that convinced Obafemi to confirm his allegiance, it could have been Keane, could have been Mohan.

What is it that he did or didn't do?

He poorly managed the situation. Even with the best will in the world(which there isnt) he alienated the situation so the players agent had to confirm his commitment. If he had the correct level of communication with the player than Mon makes the statement to the media.

As far as I can see, when there was talk of Obafemi switching, O'Neill was asked and just gave a fairly generic 'it's his decision, we won't pressure him' comment.
Is there any more to it than that?
If that's all it is, I don't think there is much wrong with it.

Nice to see the Obafemi situation concluded.
It was a tough match for a young forward to make his debut but I thought he showed a lot of intelligence and strength with some of his hold up play. Clearly still a raw prospect but I’m hopeful he’ll continue to progress.
Given Southampton’s dire situation hopefully he’ll learn to feed off scraps on the counterattack and carry that experience over to our cause.

Well this is a big positive out of tonight - fair play to him for committing to us without any fuss (on his part anyway - I know we were all on tenterhooks). Of all the multiple-nationality young players we've been talking about, on paper we he's the one who would have had most justification in taking the time to consider his options, so for him to have made this decision already is much appreciated. Let's hope he continues his progress and is joined by Aaron Connolly and others soon

So we’re clear, I was a big fan of Dave Connolly...I’m calibrating my optimism. A prolific Championship level scorer with potential to do well in a given environment. It’s not too unrealistic to wish for.

There won't be too many clearer runways to a Prem side than he has at Southampton at the moment, with Long having his ongoing difficulties, until they go shopping in January anyway. Big two months for him, all eyes on him, for a first goal now and to hopefully kick on.

I was a fan of David Connolly. Robbie Keane was unfortunate for him, as was Don Givens.
