When there's posters not appreciating his career so far on YBIG I just chuckle. How many other countries, including England, have a 20 year old striker getting games in PL?
Well, England, to be fair. If you expand from EPL to the big four, Norway do, but yeah it's rare enough for teams around our level.

Wow. Brilliant fact. Himself and Callum O'Dowda could've really orchestrated the midfield on the big stage

Starts tonight with Maupay and Trossard on the bench against Southampton. Long on the bench for them.

Hooked after an hour. Didn't get a sniff tonight - it's a very scrappy game in general though..

Dreadful game. I don't know what Welbeck did to merit staying on the pitch.

Brighton looked very poor yesterday, I cant figure out how Molumby cant even get on the bench there
Olé Olé
08/12/2020, 5:31 PM
Yeah, completely lateral. Shifting ball out to the fast wing backs in space was they only time they moved forward. Molumby in there with his drive forward would be a huge a improvement from my biased perspective.

Brighton's best attacking option there, but the kid is drought and frustrated, misjudged a header with an open goal, better when he moves around and then to the center. Played better when a target man came in.
He needs a 9 to play around, you know, to pick and roll

No sign of Connolly (or Molumby) in the Brighton 20 man squad today. Haven't heard that either player is injured.

Goal to put his side up 1-0 against Wolves after 13 minutes. He could have done with a goal sooner rather than later.

He followed that up with a great overhead attempt. Unfortunately looks like he’s injured his hamstring and has been withdrawn at half time.

Nice goal for Connolly ! The defender that could not even get a tackle in despite the fella that crossed the ball falling down would want to be getting a bit closer to his man !

Missed an absolute golden chance to get his third goal of the season against Spurs, Alderweireld did make a great block, but with only the defender to beat, Connolly should have scored

Connolly has deleted his twitter account - apparently he was getting loads of abuse over the miss against Spurs, seemingly coming from punters who had backed a 2-0 win (can't have been too many of those I'd have thought).

That is sickening. Based on some of his interviews, Connolly doesn't strike me as the type that needs to be told that was an awful miss. He really needs to eradicate those though if he's going to be a long term Premiership player like he definitely can be.

Honestly at a certain point players should have their social media accounts managed by third party firms. There is no point having unfettered access to random trolls bashing you.
There is value in being able to Tweet out messages to fans/the public but there is very little value in directly consuming unfiltered messages from the public when you are a prominent figure.

Good 10 minute cameo from him tonight. Worked hard, held the ball up well and made good tackle in the left back position.

playing a tremendous, great game today, doing everything perfectly, but to place the freaking ball in the back of the net!
His (and Brighton’s) overall performance quite good but they are taking wastefulness to farcical levels now.

A very promising young player with some great facets to his game pace, enthusiasm, work rate, and he regularly causes defenders problems.
That said he really needs to start finishing chances off like he did at youth level. After that impressive double in his first PL game, he seems to have developed a bit of a mental block and is second guessing himself rather than playing on instinct.

That’s part of his problem too though.
Often shoots when the angle is too tight or there’s a teammate better positioned.
Robbie Keane got away with being that selfish cos he stuck them away so often

As much as I want to, I cannot see the regular-start EPL player in Connolly. He's so predictable (run, cut inside, shoot or invite fall-over tackle). Looking at the top of the Championship table, I doubt he'd be a starter there either. Fact is, if he wasn't Irish he wouldn't cost most of us a second thought - no more than any other Brighton, WBA, Fulham or Sheff Utd occasional starter. Unpopular opinion - but regretfully I think it's valid.

Our player pool is so poor at the moment. There probably isnt eve one player who you could say, this time next season is a nailed on premier league starter

I really don't think Brighton is the club for him. They just don't play to his strengths. I'm not sure what attacking strengths they even do play to. I am not a fan of Potter at all.
He just doesn't get enough chances or enough ball in dangerous areas for Brighton that when he does get a chance it's a panic.
I would love to see him play in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 under a manager or coach with a bit of attacking experience. Derby for a while under Rooney, for example. But I still think he has enough for the top division so it's hard to see such a move. If Brighton had signed a couple of forwards that suited Potter's style better than probably all those there at the moment then he might have got a loan for the second half of the season to the Championship. Maybe they make those signings in the summer and he moves to another Premiership side.
