I would be glad if he does well and it prompts Mick to bring him to Tbilisi but this should not need to be the trigger.

That would have been utterly sumptuous if he scored it the first time. Their first goal could have fallen to him too. This is fabulous!

just got a 2nd goal. from bbc sport......
it's 19-year-old Irishman Aaron Connolly again on his full Premier League debut. He drives at the Spurs defence down the left, cuts in and buries the ball into the far corner.
A brilliant goal

Looked like a real live wire, plays the game in the manner of Carlos Tevez, constantly running at opposition center backs.

Taken off, went down injured. Didn’t look serious, walked off well. Great day. Hopefully will still be ready for 21s. Prefer that to Mick calling him up and not playing him. Judge and Hogan ahead of him...

Second goal was beautiful. Two fine goals, on the back of two desperately close chances. It is all boding very well for this lad.

Looks like we have found ourselves a striker!
Only 19 too!
Time to uncork the champers!
Any relationship to David?
I think we have hit the jackpot here!

Anyone got mick's number?

He is our highest scorer in the Premiership.
Looks like a proper striker. Should have had a free kick at 3.33 almost a penalty?

I'm sure mick will call him up now, but if he hesitates or the like someone should point it out to him that spurs are a better team then Switzerland

No idea, actually you might be right, was wondering if Duffy or Doherty had scored two in a game but I doubt it.
Think someone would have mentioned it if they had!

You can actually imagine that McCarthys attitude after Connollys 2 today would be "Ah sh!t they are going to on me to call him up now"
Thankfully for him Hogan scored too to justify his selection

Never thought I would celebrate two Brighton goals as much as I did today, reminded me of watching Robbie Keane's debut for Coventry 20 years ago.
Aaron Connolly became the 100th player from the Republic of Ireland to score a Premier League goal
Have seen this stated in a few places but according to this there has been 106.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_Premier_League_goalscorers
Hourihane scored his first later in the day than Connolly but that still leaves a difference of five, I wonder which players are not considered to be Irish.
Also Mike Milligan, who played internationally for Ireland and scored in the Premier League, isn't on the list.

I counted five on that list who never received a senior cap (Lee Power, Michael Reddy, Matthew Rush, Sean Thornton and Andy Turner) - maybe the list Tricky is talking about only counts senior internationals.

I think the list removes players if they switch allegiance. The figure of 100 (now 101 including Hourihane) potentially makes sense if they only count senior internationals - although Willo Flood and as of yet Aaron Connolly have not been capped either.

A couple of things struck me.
1. The outpouring of joy, reminiscent of Keane’s double for Coventry in 99, really highlighted the lack of exciting talent we have had in recent years
2. This is a great thing for the youngsters hoping to follow Connolly in his footsteps, particularly Parrott: as well as showing them a pathway exists, it will also serve to share the burden of expectation and dilute the pressure on these youngsters. Connolly seems the type of guy who will handle this well, as he certainly has taken the initial (and biggest) hit

Shane Keegan was on Off The Ball yesterday. He said from his dealings with Connolly that he strikes him as a confident lad. He said his attitude has been "yeah, I'm going to be a PL footballer and, yeah, I'm going to be an Ireland international."
He also referenced Connolly's lack of involvement at 19s level for a period and that someone in the FAI referred to him as being "hard to handle." Hopefully he has grown out of that.

In fairness, Robbie Brady was also banished from u19 level due to “attitude” in the squad that got to the semi final against Spain that included Doherty, Egan, Hendrick, Williams, McDermott, McCarey and Samir Carruthers who was such a promising young player as a teen at Villa. Sean Murray and Anthony Forde are other lads who didn’t ever really live up to their potential. That class of 92 was decent. Duffy I think would also have been eligible along with Brady.

That someone in the FAI was correct. Connolly is hard to handle - just ask Toby Alderweireld and Paulo Gazzaniga

Didn't Connolly tweet something slightly cryptic when Obafemi was called up under O'Neill, which could have been read as 'How the hell is he getting called up before me?'. Obafemi would have played first team football at that stage though so wouldn't seem so difficult to understand. Am I remembering this all wrong?

That's bang on. His tweet was "what am I seeing here" And it was related to Obafemi

I suppose you have to rate ( hopefully with justification ) your own ability to get the best out of that ability .
Low in confidence Strikers won’t be banging in load of goals .

There was a bit of questioning of Obafemi's commitment at underage level. I would assume that insight into that potential wavering commitment informed Connolly's tweet. It was very ambiguous though.

The young lad looks a player. The second was a lovely goal and his movement was first rate for a lad having his first competitive start. Rashford for Man United hasn’t got a clue when it comes to making attacking runs!!
Fingers crossed he keeps getting game time.
