Jesus. Watching the highlights and the jersey makes me feel nostalgic.
And we were pretty crap then. But we were far better than we are now

Looks like Dalymount to me.

Edit: Yeah, Dalyer - https://eu-football.info/_match.php?id=5796 They'd lose their other qualification game to the Dutch a month-and-a-half later. If they'd beaten Belgium they'd probably have gone to the World Cup. Belgium went, and were knocked out by Germany in the First Round. The story of an IFS team at Mussolini's World Cup would have been fascinating.

A bit nuts that Phil Babb made his debut less than three months before the Italy match at Giants Stadium.

Is Ian Harte the best free-kick specialist that we have ever had ? ! Putting it out there for debate.

Denis Irwin had a good free-kick in him as well.

Both of them were good ~ Interesting that when Beckham came along that Irwin wasn't as good for Ireland ~ I suppose he wasn't getting the practice any more.

That game was shown during one of the lockdowns. I watched it with some friends on zoom. I think we were surprised to see just how little that was a one-man performance. Yes, McGrath was great, but Irwin and Babb in particular were immense too.

Some observations from my viewing.

Lots of toilet rolls on the pitch ( probably the " grease proof " versions )

Steve Heighway doing almost Rory Delap throw-ins.

Decent amount of fans on top of the roof of the stand.

A bit of bite in the game.

It would be nice to have a Giles and Brady now or even one of them.

I know that QPR had a good team back in those days but perhaps Don Givens was a bit unlucky not to get a chance with one of the bigger clubs !

Johnny Giles is quite small.
