Galway United are delighted to announce that Paul Sinnott has signed a new contract with the club!

Sinnott now embarks on his seventh season with the club and in the coming year the midfielder has opted to concentrate on his own game. Midfield partner Ryan Connolly has been appointed Galway United captain for 2016.

Hauld on there just a minute..

He's going into his seventh season with us. Obviously the club isn't the same entity, we're not kidding ourselves, we weren't the first and we won't be the last club to do it and I'd rather be in your position where you barely have a pot to píss in than ours, but that was not possible after the level of debt our directors saddled to the club and the lack of assets in our possession.

We paid the ultimate price as supporters and we were locked out of the league for years. Believe me, that was tough and I would not wish it on any fan, but Galway United was always going to return to the League of Ireland. It may not be the same to you, but I'll live with the sporadic snide comments from opposition supporters.

I wasn't trying to be snide at all. Is this Galway United recognised as the same as the old Galway United? I thought even within the club they were recognised as two different entities.

Apologies then for taking you up incorrectly. Yes would be the answer to that question (By our supporters anyway, although the FAI didn't list our history/honours before this season, they did for Cork City and Derry City FWIW).

The plan was always to return to Galway United but that was not possible in the first year, similar to Cork City FORAS.

It's a shame to see Towell go even though I hate the ********.

Mad goings-on at Bray. They seem to have a unique nose for fithy rich suckers at that club.

He might have been your ******** only he didnt like the attitude of the Rovers squad, the prima donnas and the way that they believed that they had very successful careers. Alternatively at Dundalk at the time there was a bunch of hard working lads with something to prove and they were all buying into what was happening at Oriel; We know how it panned out. Having said that though there is a nice satisfaction when other club supporters dislike any of your players as it means they are doing something right or they are filthy hardmen who end up with cult status at a club, Tome McNulty being one though there more to his game than kicking people.

Well Rovers only had a couple of players signed when Towell signed for Dundalk and most of the problem elements from the previous year had left so not sure that's it. By all accounts Rovers were interested but he was more impressed by Kenny, which is fair enough.

Had a brief chat with Tom at the FAI Cup final(he was working for LMFM radio on the day) Fair play to him he still looks like he could still do it for Dundalk! "He was admired by many that also hated him" to borrow a quote or prob a mis quote from someone or maybe even one that i made up in head just now :D ;)

Rovers were never interested. Croly didn't even know he was playing for bluebell, and only found out when trevor molloy rang the club to ask why Rovers hadn't been up to watch him. When Croly eventually went up for a look he reported back that he didn't think towell would be good enough.

I didn't think Healy had another year in him. Gaynor is a big loss. I heard he is talking to Pats, Rovers, and Dundalk.

I would be shocked if Gaynor was on Dundalk's radar. Most Dundalk fans on here said he was ****e when he was playing with us.

He'll be 2nd choice left back at all of those clubs so whether he's ****e or not is pretty relative to to role he has

I would be delighted if he signed back with Dundalk. He would put pressure / provide cover for three positions - left back and both wings (as Horgan could easily switch to right wing)

Very surprised to hear Healy got another year, for most of extra time in the cup final, he looked as if he could hardly run.

Dundalk meant to be announcing 2 or 3 new signings at the kit launch tomorrow night. McEleney could be one, but the compensation figure seems very high.

To be fair that was his first game back in months. He clearly wasn't at 100%. I don't know if hes back to be first choice or to play in a reduced number of games.

Shane Grimes has re-signed for Dundalk so I'd imagine that means that Ross Gaynor will not be returning to Oriel Park.

That was my immediate thought when I saw that aswell.

It seems the McEleney deal may be more or less wrapped up with the club paying the not insignificant amount of compensation.
I've heard that Benson has signed aswell and will be "modelling" the new jersey tomorrow evening.

I saw online earlr that if dundalk didnt play much compensation to Derry City Derry will get more of a cut if McEleney moves abroad!

Son of Paul Curran. Derry fans don't seem to rate him much, but he's a good young signing.

How do Dundalk fans expect the centre of their team line up next season. Will Finn and McEleney fight it out for the number 10 position while Benson will fight it out with Shields to partner O'Donnell in the middle??

I saw Benson against Bratislava last year and he was outstanding, but seemed more of a no10 than a centre mid.

This is what I would expect (assuming Gannon re-signs). Shields and Benson to compete for a central midfield sport. Kilduff and McMillan to share the lone stiker role.

He played mostly central. I'd expect Benson to compete with Mountney and Meenan for the wide spot on the opposite wing to Horgan

It is an interesting one and we await the pre-season friendlies with particular interest. In the interim Stephen Kenny interviews might shed some light on his thinking.

If Georgie Poynton, the current U-19 international can force himself into the mix, potentially there are 9 players competing for 5 starting spots in midfield:

Shields, O'Donnell
Benson, Mountney
McEleney, Finn
Horgan, Meenan

Surely you'd assume Poynton would be heading off on loan somewhere this season? Possibly to Drogheda?

Has Gannon not re-signed yet?, Best fullback in the league

Gannon has not signed back yet, I also think he is the only one* not to at this stage. He is injured though, came off in the first half of the cup final, if it was during the season he would have missed a good few months with it.

Think he is only recently back from holidays, there were rumours he has rejected a deal, maybe its to get a better one, he is definitely the best right back in the league, so hopefully they can agree terms with him.

* Kurtis Byrne left for Bohs, Sean Maguire will not be staying as he wants regular first team football

Everyone knows he is far too laid back and easy-going for that sort of stuff

You talking about Lynch?

He was outstanding for us two seasons ago when we went on that great run and again when we went on a great run this season. It's no coincidence that when he signed two years ago Gaffney started banging in goals and again when he signed this season Faherty started banging in goals. He links up the play from the middle to the wingers/strikers very well and he put in a huge shift helping Faherty closing down opposition strikers. Both times it was in the second half of seasons.

His only problem is a recurring hamstring injury. He certainly isn't too light either. Small lad yes but that has never stopped top players before.
