Delighted Tommo and Kev are back 2 technically gifted footballers.

Yeah he said on Twitter that he couldn't commit for next year due to work. I don't know whether that's because there's more training and games as a Premier side or if he just can't play LOI at all. Good player though.
There will be more Friday and mid week games, won't there?

Longfordian

Yeah five more league games to fit in and only ourselves and Sligo playing on Saturdays.

Extratime said it's something to do with work commitments. I think most of us would have wanted him to stay.

he is going to work in 'merica next year, heard it from the horses mouth!

I was in Dublin today talking to a Shamrock rovers member he reckons Ken Oman is coming on board with De Town is this just a rumour?

Oman's not a bad signing if it happens, plenty experience, reservation would be that he's slow as all hell, and as Brian Kerr would say 'he has the turning circle of a milk truck'.

Longfordian

Bennion gone to Athlone as goalkeeper coach. Bit odd, I thought the talk was that he wanted to take a step back from football? Won't he have just as many commitments as when he was a player? Suppose he may think it's a good opportunity to get into coaching.

That describes more or less every defender in this league though. Oman is a classy player if he's fit, just not title-challenging level anymore. Would be a great signing for Longford.

saw in the mirror today that we along with Sligo and Dundalk are linked with Jake Kelly of Bray. Hes close to a move to Dundalk it seems though. what would people think of the move?

Longfordian
18/11/2014, 1:35 PM
Obviously he'd be a good signing if we got him but we won't so..

Well if Dundalk, Sligo and ourselves are in for a player it's unlikely he'll choose us for a few reasons. Money being the first one for most.

If we can afford Gary Twigg we can sign Kelly :D

Darklordsbane

It's not always about the amount of money, I don't know anything about Jake Kelly apart from he played in Bray and Pats I would assume he lives near enough to both clubs so therefore with De Town training in Leixlip it would be the easier option compared to Dundalk and Sligo, but as you say he may be made an offer he can't refuse

Longfordian
18/11/2014, 10:29 PM
I think he's from Bray or that general direction. It may not only be about money but even if it were for football reasons Dundalk are the champions and Sligo should be competing near the top. Plus, going back to the money, the fact that in LOI even 100 quid a week more is a significant difference for a player means I can't see him ending up with us.

Darklordsbane
19/11/2014, 6:18 AM
Yeah your probably right but it would have to be more than €100 you would spend more than that on fuel and tolls

Longfordian was trying to say A difference of just 100 euro would be big for a LOI player not that the wage is 100.

Jake Kelly was linked with us weeks ago I think we have a chance as he will have learned from returning to bray that playing first team football is the most important thing and he's not guaranteed that at Dundalk or Sligo, he's an absolutely cracking player.

Also just on Benno he never said he wanted to take a step back he said he wanted to go into coaching and was hoping he'd get to do that with longford but he said on Facebook tony never offered him the chance which is very disappointing as Benno and Hunty seemed to get on very well and Benno believes Hunty will be a top top keeper so would have been nice to see them working together. Very best of luck to Benno in his coaching career, a gent and great town servant.

I understood what he meant, I might be a bit of a gob****e sometimes but I'm not stupid, say he is offered €300 a week from Longford he would need more than €400 to match that from Dundalk or Sligo also I read he is a midfielder unless he is a winger I can't see how you think he will be guaranteed first team football with De Town either, what with Kevin, Rhys, Mark, and Stephen in the mix for the midfield roles as it is, don't know what Jake is like, are you saying he is better that at least 2 of them or possibly 3 depending on what system Cousins puts out, if so happy days sign him up

Ok that's great I hope he signs we need wingers, if he is from Bray maybe Kevin and Ger could have a word, or perhap Section O could talk to him on twitter/facebook and show him how much affection is awaiting him

Things have quietened down a bit with regards signings, any fresh rumours to throw into the mix?

The most recent rumours I've seen have been Jake Kelly, Dean Kelly, Ken Oman & Martin Deady.

There's talk of Evan McMillan going back to Bohs from Sligo as he wants to go back part-time and live in Dublin. If that's true then I'd be very disappointed if we weren't in for him too. We'd surely be able to match Bohs' wages? He's a very good defender who'd be a great addition for any team in the lower half of the Premier.

Longfordian
21/11/2014, 5:42 PM
Gary Twigg..

Martin Deady are you sure about that one? Is he not based in Cork? Maybe there may be more word official or unofficial at the dinner in a couple of weeks. I'm sure we'll pick up players but we will be fighting with the likes of Drogs and Bohs for them. Bray possibly if they get a bit of money together.

De Town
21/11/2014, 6:02 PM
Yeah he's based in Cork but it was mentioned on another forum about him being linked with us and Galway and I notice he tweeted the other day about looking for a place to live in Dublin. I'm just putting 2 and 2 together on that one.

Longfordian
21/11/2014, 6:43 PM
Fair enough I hadn't seen that. He's a very useful FD player from what I've seen of him but not sure he'd be an addition in the PD. Maybe he'd make the step up though if given the chance.

Martinho II

is this the Martin Deady that is with Cobh? I have heard of him but have no opinion of him tbh!

Longfordian
21/11/2014, 7:43 PM
Yeah Marty, that's him. I saw him play against us a few times in Longford. He was better than the rest of them but in fairness they were kids. He'd surely be better with better players but he wouldn't be one I'd have had on a list of players I'd go after tbh.

Great shout RE:McMillan @DeTown, Deady is a tricky full back that can play further forward if required, would be a good addition in my opinion.

Martin Deady played with us for a while. Good left back and is well able to get forward. Remember him playing against ye for us in the game up in flancare when Jeffrey Judge and Jason Hughes got in a fight with each other in the middle of the pitch during the first half and both got sent off. I'd certainly take him back at Limerick if he was available.

Longfordian
21/11/2014, 9:03 PM
Yeah just had a look at his Twitter. He seems to be heading for Dublin alright and I notice he's followed certain Town tweeters though he may just be being polite and following them back :-)

Was great when he was fit but that was rare unfortunately. Jesus when you look at that table it makes you feel so privileged to be back in the top flight, 9th In the FD that season, my goodness.

Yeah when I actually stopped to think about him I remembered him being fairly decent when he played. Scary how you forget these lads. I remembered the rest of them, it must be old age. I can't be bothered looking it up, and wouldn't know where to look tbh but I'm sure Martinho has the stats about how many players we used in the pre Tony Cousins First Division days. Serious turnover.

I do remember Aaron C's masterplan of signing lads nobody had ever heard of and taking the division by storm. Worked for perhaps two games. Big Mick McCarthy brings back some memories :)

When you actually look at that starting 11 it wasn't half bad bar the lack of goals up front, something we always struggled with till the White peles arrival. I remember being gutted when Craig money left to go travelling he was a tough little Midfielder and I was a huge Thomas Hyland fan.

Where's Mooney and Hyland now. I. Think Mooney played in the league after his return from travelling. Think it was with Shels but not certain on that. Both Mooney and Hyland were good players with the club in their time with us.

Longfordian

Hyland went playing up the North, not sure if he's still up there or not. Yeah Mooney signed for Shels, don't think he played much though.

Thank god I dont have a girlfriend it gives me loads of time to do the stats! always had an interest in that sort of stuff. Im on annual leave till after dinnerdance so in process of doin more stats to put into program next season. I will also have more interesting stats from last season to put on the town website once I update this seasons stats to the overall record!

Plus one of the Cobh fans has said it on the main forum.
