So folks, who are we expecting to attract attention when the transfer window opens tomorrow? Conor Hourihane and Eoin Doyle have clearly exceeded expectations, from a goal-scoring perspective anyway, at League One so surely they'll have Championship sides (or SPL) vying for them.
Seamus Coleman to Man United just won't go away. I'd love to see that one. Considering where Coleman has come from with Gaelic football apparently his first game, he'd be usurping a Brazilian that has probably been playing soccer all his life.

Sean Hoare (Pats to Hull)
Brian Lenihan will probably go out on loan again
Eoin Doyle is in demand but Chesterfield don't need to sell so will hold out for a seven-figure sum
Everton need Coleman more than they need to sell, so I can't see it happening unless they get an insane offer (which United are fully capable of)

Both Chesterfield's goals were scored by an Irishman in their FA Cup draw with Scunthorpe tonight- Jay O'Shea and Eoin Doyle (penalty). Chesterfield came from 2-0 down.
O'Shea was with MK Dons who saw fit to send him down a division to Chesterfield in League 2. He's back in League 2 now and came on from the bench to score that crucial goal which will hopefully see him become even more important to Chesterfield during their promotion push. They currently lie one point outside the play-off positions in League 1.

I dont think he has actually played at all for the under 18s yet unfortunately. Think the first choice under 18 squad are at that tournament mentioned so must have needed a few players to make up the numbers for the 21s friendly

Hull have done ok recently with some of the Irish restored to the team. We only have clusters of Irish at half decent clubs these days but in the last couple weeks the Hull, Everton and Stoke Irish have done well enough, as have others at Derby and other Championship clubs. Even Clark has shown spurts of form in a shambolic Villa team.
I think we could approach the Poland game with some confidence if only we could shake off the "we're crap because we're not brilliant" syndrome, which MON seems to be a proponent of.

"Great header by Wade Maxwell for the goal, some decent play around the back and for me the best of the players in red was the debutant (wasn't sure but the announcer said it after my earlier comment) Conor Masterson. Looked very good for his first game at this level, a bit like vintage Danny Agger strolling around the back. Looking forward to seeing more of him in the future to see if he can keep it up." "Masterson reminds me a lot of Benedikt Howedes during his time in the schalke reserve team and german youth teams"

Not a single goal scored by an Irish player after a full round of fixtures in all four divisions midweek. Has that happened before?
Daryl Murphy missed a penalty for Ipswich as their slide continues.
Brentford are proving surprisingly resilient though, in spite of their upheaval.

Quick trivia question to kick off the week - with Reece Grego Cox making his debut at the weekend, who was the last Irish player to make his debut in a premier league game?
Bonus question - who was the last Irish international to make his debut in a premier league game?
Hint: both players in question made their debuts for the same club

Michael Harriman??? good guess, but no.
He made his debut in the league cup
To clarify, these players made their professional debuts in premier league games, not games involving then premier league clubs. Anthony Forde is another one, he made his debut for premier league club wolves, but in the league cup

Yep, Williams is the last player to make his debut in a Premier League game, in December 2012. Before I started looking I had thought it was going to be Anthony Forde, or Samir Carruthers. Forde made his debut in the League Cup, and Carruthers made his debut in April 2012
Matt Doherty made his PL debut against Liverpool and I think that was before Derrick Williams' debut.
Doherty made his professional debut in a League Cup game, so he didn't count

If Derrick Williams is the answer to part one, does that mean that Ciaran Clark would be the answer to the bonus question? Wow, that would mean it's been five years since an Irish international came straight through a Premier League club's youth system to play for the first team, without going out on loan to a lower league team - and Clark was technically still an England international at the time. That said, we do have a number of promising young players coming through Championship and League One teams. And with the success of Coleman, Meyler, McClean, Doyle etc, it's clear that young players can get experience in the League of Ireland and still realistically aspire to the play at the top level of football. So maybe this wait doesn't necessarily indicate that we need to be overly worried about players going straight into Premier League teams. Still, it would be nice if we were sitting here twelve months from now talking about the likes of Jack Byrne, Alex O'Hanlon and/or Daniel Cleary making a breakthrough.

Yep, well done, Clark was the answer to the bonus question! And also, yes it's pretty depressing that it's been that long since an Irish international came through the academy system in England.

'FAI to chase up Inter talent': http://www.herald.ie/sport/fai-to-chase-up-inter-talent-31086545.html
THE FAI are planning to explore the eligibility of teenage prospect Ryan Patrick Nolan who is off to try his luck in Italy after the youngster signed a deal with Inter Milan.
Nolan, who was brought up in Spain but has Irish parents, has until now been on the books of Spanish side Torre-Pacheco, but he has been tracked by bigger clubs and Inter, managed by Roberto Mancini (pictured), have lured him to Milan signing him on a three-year deal which was brokered by former Italy and Chelsea star Pierluigi Casiraghi. Nolan, 15, has never been capped, at any level, by the Republic but FAI scouts will this week follow up on the teenager and confirm his eligibility and his interest, if any, in playing for Ireland.
While Liam Brady and Robbie Keane obviously had spells in the first team at Inter, only a handful of Irish players have spent time in the academies of Italian clubs.

The Newstalk article above seems to state he's been in Spain with his parents the last 6 years- which means he was born and lived in Ireland until 9.
Doubt he's a very urgent case. Who does he qualify for? Spain? There are academies all over Spain producing players that are probably of similar (some of better) standards to Inter's.

If Danny's inquiries are anything to go by, Nolan would only be eligible for Spain if FIFA made a specific ruling on him (which would probably go in his favour if he's been there since he was nine).
