I don't see how they could justify anything other than 50/50 no matter where it is, with any excess going on general sale.

I cant see there being a demand for more than 1k tickets from home fans for Drogs v DLk on Fri, so I'd expect 400 more will be made available.
On the LC Final, a toss of the coin is the fairest outcome, going to be a challenge with accommodating Rovers fans in the stand, unless they section off an entire panel, but would there really be more of a demand than 500 or 600 to travel up for a Lge cup final?
EDIT on Fri v Drogs, 600 is prob the limit now for H+S that they can offer to any away side, but pretty sure we took close to 1k on opening day of the season. I was there and it was biggest I recall on any DLK visit.
Yeh I have a feeling when they sell out tomorrow when they are on general sale they might release some more, prob want everyone having tickets before they get to the ground so 1/2 the away crowd dont miss the start (which always happens anyway as it takes forever to get into the ground when their is a large away following)

Just going by what I was told, Whoever is away gets the same allocation as they would always get.
If it was in Oriel, 500 in the away end, 150/200 tickets for ya in the stand. Will yas bring much more than 700? (thats a serious question)

I can't think of any reason why the "home" team would get their usual allocation other than the travelling team not requesting their full compliment.
I don't know how many Rovers would bring, to be honest, as we've never been to a cup final away from Dublin that I can think of. With Croly gone, I think there'll be a buzz around the club and I don't see any reason why there wouldn't be at least as many as travelled up for the league game.
Good point that Charlie on Rovers cup finals, actually would this be the first non Dublin venue cup final if it was in Oriel Pk?

If the final is to be in Oriel Park, the split will be 50/50.
which could mean the away section and the entire stand for Rovers fans( i dont know the capacity so thats a bit of guesswork)
anyway it will be in Tallaght anyway. its bound to be
There are four seated areas in Oriel Park and the following are roughly the numbers of seats:
Stand - 1,200
Shed - 800
Home terrace - 700
Away terrace - 500
Total - 3,200

No, just off the top of my head, Harps League Cup Final v Bohs in the mid-70's was played in Oriel Park. Harps played a League Cup Final v Waterford in 1985 in Waterford too. There have been League Cup Finals played in Longford, Wexford, Waterford, Derry, Sligo and Cork in the last 10 years alone - some of them involving Dublin teams too.
In the FAI Cup, the 1973 replay between Cork Hibs and Shels was played in Flower Lodge.

Think the total capacity is 6500 in Oriel overall

Thanks good to read those but I meant had Rovers ever played in a cup final outside Dublin.

Surely if it was to be in Oriel the away fans would have to be put somewhere other than the actual away end.

Yes, 3200 seated.
The standing capacity is hard to estimate. The Carrick Road end is big but not terraced. It would be difficult to put people there as the view would be very restricted.
Would it be economic to hire temporary seating? That could accommodate up to 2,000 but would be pricey.

The second leg of the 1998/99 League Cup Final was also at the Cross, was also against Shamrock Rovers, and was also 1-0. Noel Hartigans finest moment.
Wikipedia also tells me that Shamrock Rovers were defeated by Athlone in 81/82 and Dundalk in 86/87 though it neglects to give Venues for either game.
They have lost 6 LC finals! Dundalk are second both in terms of Wins and Losses with 4 a piece.

82 was in Tolka and 87 in Dalymount, the same venue as that year's cup final between the two teams.

Times they are a changing - kudos to the FAI, who seem to have belatedly got a grasp on sporting fairness in opting for a coin toss.

Aye, that's what wiki has but there hasn't been a confirmed definitive figure seating wise since the ground got upgraded for the EL under Foster (bar what Skinny comes out with and I'd take that with a pinch of salt tbf). Before this years EL wear and tear/ replacements over the last few years etc hadn't been factored in, hence me saying around 3k seating & not a specific figure.
The ground capacity total is what I was given last year from the club as I do some of the LOI research for Football Manager & ourselves in particular & it was the same as the post EL Foster era ground upgrades with the old seats from Croker that got put in. The total is the registered figure with UEFA/ the FAI/ Health & Safety etc for a safe maximum capacity. Not a chance seating/ standing totals 6k since the seats were put in the Shed, away and home end terraces.

Someone in the FAI messed up the coin toss. There will be hell to pay.
Wil Fenlon allow players to deicde whether they fancy playing on Dundalk's 3G pitch?

Great craic coming out of Louth this afternoon. Dundalk have proposed building a temporary uncovered stand for the Rovers fans to sit in at Oriel. In exchange for this most generous bounty, Rovers will pay 1/3 of the cost of the temporary stand (which Dundalk will be free to use for their remaining home games) and get a whopping 1/4 of the ticket allocation. They apparently have the FAI backing them in this ludicrous suggestion.

The only place I have seen this is on various forums all from Rovers fans.
Its complete bull**** but il let ya continue on thinking that!
As for the ticket allocation, its 40% not 20% you will be getting.

What I heard was that Rovers would get 40% of the tickets and the cost of installing temporary seating would come out of the match day revenue.
Charlie Darwin
29/08/2014, 4:26 PM
Whether it's 25% or 40% being offered, it should be 50%, and anything Rovers can't sell should be offered to Dundalk. It's supposed to be a neutral venue. If the cost of the stand comes from matchday income, then Rovers are paying for half of a stand that Dundalk will be able to make money from for the rest of the season. It should be quite simple: if Dundalk want a temporary stand, they can pay for it. Otherwise, Rovers should be given the same allocation any other side would get at a neutral venue.

20% going to sponsors, FAI, etc. The temporary stand will facilitate more fans from both clubs being able to attend the match.

Where did you hear this bull**** mate?
So you want 50% tickets, FAI/Sponsors 20% leaving us with 30%. Is that to balance up that you have to play a final away from Tallaght?

So, if the game was in Tallaght, the rent paid to the council would be paid by Rovers directly and not taken from the match day revenue?

No. There's a big difference between renting a stadium for an evening and paying for a new stand. If a temporary stand was put up in Tallaght for a game between Rovers and Dundalk, nobody would expect Dundalk to pay. It's not a necessary match expense. You can play the game without it. If Dundalk want more fans there they can pay for it.

Thats what you will get. 20% FAI/Sponsors (yes thats whats happening with any untaken tickets going back to both teams allocation)
40% for Rovers
40% for Dundalk
Now Oriel will prob hold 6000 ish more so unless you are bringing more than 2500 Will be no issue over tickets to Rovers fans.
Id also put my house on no temp stand going in the carrick Road end because
A. its not needed!
B. That is a right of way to the Oriel Active building which means it cant have a stand there!
If you wanna build one the other end for us (with all your Europa league money) Feel Free

The club do their best in upgrading the ground. Havnt the money to do it all up so naturally the home end will be looked after first (Eg We had no Shed for a few years) now basically the whole side is covered. Disabled facilites upgraded but hey Il let you think what you want!

I know I shouldn't get drawn in on this but Rovers have put far more money into Tallaght than Dundalk have in their stadium over the past decade. It's funny the stick we get from clubs who've run down their own stadiums for no other reason than we don't own a ****hole.

About 1.3million has been spent on Oriel over the last decade! For which a period of that was in the 1st division and on the brink of going out of business. With a new ground to walk in to and to maintain has hardly cost anywhere near €1mil to Rovers?
Sligo have certainly set the example of how to improve their ground without it being built by their council and keeping a team competative, something to which we aspire to.
