Financially for Harps and Galway a poor draw but in terms of progress both sides will be happy enough with that.

Yeah, just a reminder than pools finish at this round (ie the quarter finals are open draw)

There'll be at least 3 non PD teams in the quarters too

Wonder what kind of mind set the waterford players will be in for the game today can't be easy for them.. good chance for some of our fringe players to show what they can do.. raining away here today so attendance sure to be down from what we would expect.

Any teams looking like going full strength in the league cup?

Bit of a mix for us, I'd imagine. Not sure on the line-up but Patterson and Nathan Boyle (from our USL side) are starting.

From previous years, Sligo tend to play a relatively full strength squad.

I'd say we will be strong enough but I'm sure the likes of Dave o'leary Ian turner rob lehane and Matt gledhill in goals should get some game time.. maybe davoren for a start too.. this is the only trophy I haven't seen us win so really want it to happen

We'll have our second team out for it, so PFAI player of the year Killian Brennan and Champions player of the year Greg Bolger will start for us :)

Barraclough said he'll be using the rest of the squad and some of the under 19s today when he was interviewed after the match on Saturday night

Rovers 1 up at Drogheda after two minutes. More or less the same team that played Bohs last Monday except Finn and McPhail are in. Dundalk 2-0 up in Bray now, two in five minutes.

Dundalk started a totally different 11 compared to their game against Cork

We have 3 starters from Saturday night.

Would be expecting Wexford to make as many changes as possible tonight. That's been the practice since Shane Keegan took over.

Alan McNally's had a horror show by all accounts. Slipped to let Kilduff in for a goal within 90 seconds, then got booked, then slipped again moments later and pulled down Kilduff and got himself sent off.

Another Shamrock Rovers game and two more penalties, one for each side this time.

Only Vinny Faherty and Colm Horgan named in starting XI tonight who started on Friday. Sean Gavin who is starting hasn't played yet.

Another good win for us. Great to hear that wardy ran the show and got a near full competitive match under his belt.

does anybody know how the next round works. Is it an open draw or do Dundalk play Rovers for example happen in the next round?

Is there a reason why Sligo played today after playing Saturday, similarly with Wexford and Cobh? Do they believe they'll get a bigger crowd or have the FAI dictated this date? Hard for teams to take it seriously when they aren't given a real chance to put out their best side. Considering the First Division sides only play 27 league games you'd think they could have allowed another day between the games?

doesnt it work by the group that you are drawn in? I know that Bohs are in our group so I would imagine that we would play the winners from their match?

First 2 rounds were on a regional basis, but draw for quarter-finals (stage we are now at) is a national open draw. Cork, Derry, Dundalk, Galway, Shamrock Rovers and Wexford all in the hat, to be joined by Longford or Mervue; and Pats or Bohs.

As far as I know clubs were given a choice of Monday or Tuesday so it must be the clubs decision to play on the Monday. If clubs are using the league cup to field under strenght sides then playing on a Monday has no real effect. Sligo are in the Setanta cup final on Saturday so it probably suited them to play on Monday.

The draw for the quarter-finals of the EA SPORTS Cup took place today at FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown.

pats should have been 2/3 up at the half but silly mistakes caught them. Bohs much the better side in the second half

Can't complain about that draw, bar being at home, its our best chance at getting into the semi's.

Quarter-final fixtures announced:
26th May
Longford Town v Bohemians, 7.45pm
Shamrock Rovers v Cork City, 7.45pm

27th May
Derry City v Dundalk, 7.45pm
Wexford Youths v Galway, 8pm

Seems strange (and very incovenient for me) that we'd have our game on the Tuesday; Monday is a bank holiday in the north.

Shams vs City has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Fair play to them for leaving it so late to call it off.

Concerns about surface water on the pitch at the CCS. Not raining at the moment so it should dry out but kick off is delayed as they try and remove the water.

Game goes ahead.

Someone might have tripped and spilled their water bottle. That is enough to cause Tallaght to be waterlogged.

Noel Haverty sent off for punching the ball clear after a Bohs player had rounded the keeper. Stupidity. Though the peno was saved tbf!

Must have been the bottles the Bohs fans were throwing at Luke Byrne on Friday night then. You'd think it would have dried up by now.

Edit: actually Daniel Byrne not Corcoran. Not that anyone cares apart from him and his mammy

Waterlogged pitches in May.... when is the FAI going to insist on nice artificial pitches all round?

When said pitches improve to a minimum standard :smirk:
Jokes aside I think the weather in some parts of the country yesterday was a fluke.

Nah! Wide open grounds lashing rain and rovers fans can carry their umbrellas in, need to protect the gear from potential sprinklers otherwise

Would be a nice draw for a trip to the sunny south east, but of course home draw for a cup semi would be preferable
