And of course it can change every weekend, but only between the teams with good defensive records. Keogh versus Clark anyone?

Let's assume Duffy is a certain starter and Rice when he plays next will be as DM, so how do people rank Keogh, Long, Clark and Egan? I'm guessing Darragh Lenihan is below these still.

I thought Keogh looked confident in Poland, as did Egan. Long did nothing wrong defensively but his passing was awful.

Keogh all day for me. Always thought he got a raw deal in being dropped for Clark.
Clark is a decent player but for me (and others) to be picking Keogh ahead of Clark when one plays in a lower division than the other, is saying something.
Not saying Clark is a particularly bad defender, just bang average.
Keogh has a bit more presence and calmness about him at the heart of the defence.

Egan looked decent in Poland but I assume Duffy will be the man in the middle if they retain the back three, not that I necessarily agree with that. Clark has an advantage on all of them being left footed so would give the formation more balance and is clearly much more comfortable on the ball than Long. So that would leave Egan, Long and Keogh scrapping it out for the slot on the right side, I wouldn't be overly fussed between the three.

Long may struggle for game time at Burnley from here on, hopefully that's not the case. With the whole Coleman, Christie, Doherty situation too, it's not beyond reason that one of them could be tried there, not sure I'd favour that though. Lenihan sounds promising but I haven't seen enough of him to comment really.

I've generally preferred Clark to Keogh from watching them at club level, but agree with Mark that Keogh could consider himself very unlucky to have been dropped after the Euros. He played in the key matches when we turned our qualification campaign around - notably against Germany and the B&H playoffs. Then after Clark had a bad start to the Euros he slotted back in for the Italy & France games, and did fine in both, unlike Duffy who had a horror show of a second half against France, and another brain fart early in the next campaign against Moldova.

Yeah, Lampard got Given in as goalkeeping coach at the start of the season. He was showing their keeper, Kelle Roos, some previous penalties from the Southampton players in advance of the shoot-out. I couldn't help thinking poor Roos wasn't receiving much expertise when it comes to penalty saving! As it turned out he didn't need it, thanks to a brutal penalty from Ireland's Nathan Redmond, as he skewed his penalty miles off target.

Shane Long was involved in the opening goal, as his header was saved before Armstrong knocked in the rebound. Long wasn't expected to return for the second half as he had been limping before half time. He was replaced with about twenty minutes to go and they suggested on Newstalk this morning that it was injury related. Redmond scored Southampton's second with a lovely finish and missed a great chance to win it in extra time. Obafemi wasn't in the squad, must still be injured.

I was delighted for Keogh, he still gets plenty of stick from the Derby fans whenever they have a dip.

Long hobbled off, yeah, not sure what the nature of the injury was. Obafemi will be out for another two or three weeks, which is a shame for him as games like last night would have been perfect for him to get meaningful games.

It's really not good though, hard to get the head around the stupidity of Keogh here, even more so than the other players involved.
That Bulgaria non-event is looking quite valuable now, with the prospect of Long and Egan playing together again. Hopefully last night isn't the start of a horror two weeks of injuries leading into the two games, but it feels like we've been here before.

The two lads were absolutely smashed and wrapped a car around a pole. There's only one outcome of any case and they were 100% right to throw those clowns to the wolves. They deserve everything that's about to come their way. Keogh is paying the price too, he's almost as bad as that pair and should have known better. I don't care if you're penniless, there's no excuse. But millionaire footballers who had free transport provided? Horrible, horrible people.

Keogh isn't a good player anyway. Mick's rigidity and inability to really experiment given the lack of friendlies is the only reason he's in there ahead of Egan. We're no worse off and if Duffy is fit then we're playing our two best central defenders.
