Tabb has signed for Ipswich, Hunt has been linked with Leeds

Tierney linked with Bolton. Harte has been linked with Leeds. Pearce won't be short of offers. All of the older players in that list are well set for Championship moves (other than Pearce who looks like joining Liverpool or Newcastle).

I'd be more worried about the calibre of club Henderson, Roberts, Shea, Wearen and Devine can attract. Roberts and Henderson have plenty loan experience and should be okay. Don't know much about Shea. Wearen and Devine are surely likely to undergo plenty of trials before signing for a lower-league side or maybe return to the Airtricity League, I would imagine.

I am not sure if Shea has even shown interest in representing us, but the more the merrier I suppose! Surprised Roberts was let go by Aresenal, Inverness might sign him permanently now.

According to another IE report the Footballer in question (named in his own thread here) is to be 'probed'. He won't like that up him. http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/footballer-probed-over-assault-29332983.html

Conrad Logan signs on again with Leicester City for another two years. 27 now, with only two more first team appearances than his years on this earth and none since 2010. He must love it there at Leicester, several of his loan clubs tried to sign him but was never interested. Shows the value of a back up keeper who will be quiet and not agitate at a club also, as he must have survived ten or more regime changes.

Good to see 'our Joe' back in football. Once touted as a possible Irish manager, he was always pretty astute in his signings.

There's a man who'd gone off the radar. Great to see him back - and as modest as ever! Always had a soft spot for him. Back in the game, does this put him in the frame to succeed Trap whenever he goes?

Apparently, Newcastle haven't officially completed the deal yet, according to the Irish Times. Silence from St James’ Park hints at a hitch (http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/english-soccer/newcastle-fail-to-confirm-joe-kinnear-s-appointment-1.1432478).

I thought his family were irish are you sure he is not eligible?Seems even more strange if true after the FAI statement a few months ago saying he had commited to us. I had hoped he would see the light and come back to us. Villa must be livid. Did they get a big fee or just a tribunal settlement?

Yeah thats the latest of his switches but he has leapfrogged over and back for the last year or so. I assume he is still eligible to switch back to us as he did not play competitively for us yet. Would Brady have been involved in recruiting him?Maybe he can have a word as it seems the lads family are very Irish

I'm getting a weird feeling of deja-vu about this story...An experienced and popular international full-back from Drogheda, who represented us in multiple World Cups and who has recently retired decides to start down the management road around the same time the National Team's manager (who had much success prior to this but rather mixed results since taken over) looks like he may have to step down, with criticisms being levelled of a negative style of play and late goals being conceded...why does this feel so familiar? OH NO!!! SOMEBODY LOCK JOHN DELANEY UP, QUICK!!!! DON'T LET HIM READ THIS STORY!!!

While I never saw Grogan play, I have always been intrigued by him after reading newspaper articles he wrote. He comes across as a modest individual who could have played at the top level. I remember reading of his delight when Ferguson put him in midfield with Keane, Giggs and Beckham in training sessions, and Ferguson's use of a cricket bat when unhappy with player conduct!
We have lost some potential superstars over the last 10 -15 years due to injury, like Sadlier, Healy and O'Neill and you could include Stephen Reid in that category too.
Can anyone shed light on Grogan's actual ability as by all accounts he was a talented player?

FRANKIE Sutherland’s well-taken goal was the undoubted highlight, as Rangers succumbed to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Udinese in Austria.

Trailing 2-0, Sutherland gave the R’s hope with a sublime finish on 68 minutes, but the Serie A side held on to clinch victory.

Sutherland pulled a fine goal back for the R’s with a sweet left-footed finish, but despite finishing in the ascendancy, an equaliser proved to be beyond them.

The game was nine minutes old when the R’s created their first opportunity of note.

Yun Suk-Young’s throw-in was deftly touched off by Andy Johnson into the path of Bobby Zamora, only for his shot to fly high and wide.

Ten minutes before the break, Rangers went close to breaking the deadlock with their best passage of play in the half.

Zamora and Ji-Sung Park exchanged passes, but the former was denied by a fine last-ditch tackle.

The pair combined again five minutes later and this time it was Park who let fly from the edge of the box, bringing the best out of Ivan Kelava in the Udinese goal.

At the other end, former Watford loanee Matej Vydra just failed to connect with a volley under pressure from Clint Hill.

Rangers made two changes at the break, with Zamora and Johnson making way for Mo Shariff and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The changes failed to have the desired impact and it was Udinese who opened the scoring three minutes into the second half.

There appeared to be very little on when the ball landed at the feet of Basta 30 yards from goal, but what followed was a strike of pure class, leaving Rob Green with absolutely no chance.

It was an expert finish from the Republic of Ireland youngster, leaving two Udinese defenders trailing in his wake before firing the ball into the far corner of the net with a superb left-footed strike.

QPR: Green, Simpson (Harriman 70), Hill (Ehmer 70), Onuoha, Suk-Young, Park (Mbia 61), Faurlin (Granero 61), Jenas (Derry 61), Hoilett (Sutherland 65), Johnson (Shariff 46), Zamora (Wright-Phillips 46).

Grogan was a terrific talent. He was one of the best youth players in the British game at the time. I would certainly have tipped him as a future Irish international. To be honest, Graham Barrett was the standout player of an excellent batch of Irish players around then. He was being groomed for the Arsenal first team and played a few games at 18 I think for them. Injury ruined his career at a young age also. Bigger countries can deal with injuries to great talents. Unfortunately, we certainly can't. Reid was outstanding at that level also.

That u16 team probably would have been more talented than the u18s which is saying something given that McPhail, Dunne, Duff and Keane were in it. One thing about the Irish youth teams of that Brian Kerr era were that they were technically outstanding. Guys like McPhail and Reid would have become great players if they were at continiental clubs.
