It really does make all those posts from Sligo fans in the past few days pretty damn funny now.

Granted, it's a move home, but it still seems baffling - how are the League Two play-offs a step up from a potential national title?

Any word what compensation money we'll get now that the Cook is-he isn't he saga over.
I reckon it would have to be at least €35k.

rovers will get compo from that - on a positive note this is now a very attractive job to those unemployed - as highlighted above Sligo pay well - we will attract lot's of CV's in the next few day's - i only hope we get a manager that has actually won things and we can kick-on from there, don't rule out Willie McStay for a return , Roddy will also have his eye on it along with the likes of Richardson , but i just hope they appoint someone who won leagues as a manager

Let's hope there is another hungry would-be manager out there, in the Cook model, aspirational and motivated, preferably not Irish, as he would inevitably angle for a Dublin team, as in the Sean Connor model:).
Roddy Collins and Ricco have no chance. As for Willie McStay, I'm afraid - if like the last time he was here, family considerations would bring him away, so I wouldn't be up for it.
Talk of an ex-Championship manager coming to Showgrounds.

He went at the right time, he was never going to win the league. Love Gerry Carr to get it that would be perfect.

Too good for it??Team that finished 2nd last year and won the cup and the nucleus of a very good side already signed??Only shams are a more attractive proposition for a potenial manager in this country and i dont see them loooking for a manager soon. Personally i wouldnt mind him but reckon with our history of managerial recruitments we will probably look outside the country.

The Rodster heading over for talks according to lads in Monaghan. It would be hard on Monaghan to lose a manager so close to the start of the season. The Sligo job would be hard to turn down though.

Rico would be a good fit. The players and fans are used to decent football, he'd have a point to prove and (Cork fans can back me on this I think) he's not one to be flathulach with money - unlike the begging ass from Gortakeegan. Can't see anyone else who'd really improve on what's there.

Damien Richardson is the only manager in the history of football who got the sack because he wouldnt spend the money the board wanted him to. He was right as well

Thanks El-P, if I remember from an interview with him at the time, he called out Arkaga for their carry on and warned that they weren't all they were cracked up to be. I wonder would he take the Sligo job, he'd be a good fit, though he probably would prefer to be outside of Ireland.

Jesus love Sligo. I know he has form, but it's usually mid-season that he does his monkey dance about other clubs. Though last year he threw the lips at Cork early on (probably mindgames and sour grapes from him though). Christ above, we'll have to start a new thread for Mons fans - Roddy, going, going gone. He was snubbed by Dundalk, so he can't move back east, what are the odds he'll be up at Harps soon? :-)

To be honest I don't think he'll want to get back into football management, and if he did hed probably be looking for something in Dublin. Any club that does get him is a very lucky one, he'll get your team playing football. Though hes not the best at organising a side, he kinda just lets the team play.
Arkaga had plans to spend money and build an empire, Rico said it wouldn't work as they had it planned and said their budget was ridiculous. He wouldn't spend their money so they got someone in who would. Of course the GM at the time was clueless, Georgie famously said he'd play for €2k a week, and the greyhound man said no you won't you'll play for 3.
I'd love if they signed Roddy!

That is strange as the word coming out of Monaghan is that the deal is almost done. The sticking point appears to be that Roddy wants to train close to his gaff in Dubland and sign some more Dublin based players. Sligo are not sure they'll be able to move on players that this doesn't suit. What is the word coming out of Sligo?

passerrby, too much circulating for it to be total codswallop. Roddy tried it on with Cork last year, he did the same with Dundalk, he was hoping he'd be named with Bohs and Rovers, but Sligo, it's a club waiting to be wrecked. I don't believe Sligo would be so dumb as to bring him in. Chances are they'll stick with one of their own.

Well if it means we end up signing a better player in their positions, just like with Turner, I'm all for it.

Will be interesting to see what get out clauses the bould scouser inserted into some of Sligo's new signing's contracts, that's if they have signed contracts at all....
The PFAI have now stated that Aaron Greene has yet to sign a contract for anyone. I wonder will he be the only one?

Wonder how many of the players CookE signed had a "move to England on a free" type clause in their contract??
The Sligo board have been made to look really silly so far so it wouldn't surprise......
Sligo looked fantastic the other night but at this moment their squad is thin.

Hopefully we will get Roddy, him and Rico seem favourites around here at the min.
Talk around town of Russell, Gerry Carr and heres a classic LOI story in the making, JULIAN DICKS.
Foster applied aswell but he wont get it and either will Carr or Dicks, out of the rest of those names bandied about its Roddy, Rico or Russell.

Wouldn't be able to enforce that until the summer I'd reckon. There's talk that some of the players may not have signed actual contracts yet and in that case they'd be free to move to England until the end of February I think. Another reason to get a manager in quickly.

Martin Russell would be a good fit, though in fairness it'd be a thankless task. He has security in UCD and not great expectations. I doubt the Sligo board are dumb enough to bring in Julian Dicks or Roddy, the "fans" might buy it for a while, but supporters would howl. Rico would be a good fit but is there a youth set up in Sligo? If not then I doubt he'd go for it. Give it to Gerry Carr, he's the best alternative. Though....I did say a few days ago that a little birdie said Cook would go and Foster would be in like Flynn. Same person told me the Irreverent Paisley had popped his clogs, 1 out of 3 isn't bad, though it wasn't the 1 I'd have hoped for.

Maybe....but the compo from Accrington Stanley is probably very welcome.
Sligo supporters might well be more concerned about their judgement based on the daliance with Ian Foster and the reports of their interest in Roddy.

Three good managers have gone from the league. O'Neill, Cook and Fenlon. From the very much outside looking in, Cook seems to be a hard manager to follow. Who's the favourite to get the job?

Thought I read on BBC that Ian Foster was down to the final four candidates for the Glentoran job, so make of that what you will.
Talk around town of Russell, Gerry Carr and heres a classic LOI story in the making, JULIAN DICKS.
Julian Dicks would be brilliant - if for nothing else but the inevitable "Dicks Out" campaign that'd eventually result.
The fact that Roddy is a genuine candidate for this job is ****ing class.:D

Wonder what Mr Greene has been living off in the last couple of months since "agreeing terms" with Sligo? He couldn't possibly have gotten either a signing on fee or wages without signing a SPC contract as that would be deemed as paying players under the table and as we know Sligo would never do such a thing.
Interesting to note the subtle difference in language used in Sligo's press releases when they announce the "signings" of players. Some players are announced as signing contracts (Ndo, Cretaro, Davoren, Brush, Dillon) and others are announced just as agreeing terms (Greene, North, Peers, Keane). We have seen with Greene that agreeing terms is not worth the press release it's written on so wonder how many players Sligo have actually signed for 2012?
Also read this morning that Johnny McDonnell as new manager. How would Sligo fans feel about him?

Sorry where has the Greene to Accrington story come from? Don't see anything about it elsewhere. I know it's a rumours thread etc but anyone got any definite link on it?
Certainly would not be surprised to see some of our players ending up over there. Nothing surprises me in this league.
