But sadly the first game they can play isn't till the 16th of July. Not registered in time for the game on the 1st I think and then we have a free weekend.

U got about 6 fellas falling hook line and sinker for this but please lads, try keep this somewhat sensible this year. Also not one of Alan, Pa or Pat will be signing for St Michaels
Anything one hears about St.Michaels is pure remour and speculation. Officially they do not contribute to this Forum and openly advise its committee and players to refrain from any comment.

Paul Danagher
Tommy Barrett
Brendan Daly
Jason Hughes
Darren Young
Gary Higgins
Conor Kavanagh
Wayne Colbert
Bobby Tier
Dave Ryan

With the exception of Tommy Barrett I would think all those players would still train in Limerick. Last season Longford had a majority squad of Dublin players and they trained in Dublin and only travelled to Longford for matches. Wouldn't be the first time either.

they finished most of their games with 5-7 17 year olds on the pitch that isn't fair on kids to be thrown in like that at the deep end he has succeded in blooding young athlone talent and looks like he has succeded in keeping a club that was on it's knees up with a tiny budget.. as for the Limerick lads up there well scully doesn't want them for one reason or the other..how many Limerick lads making the Limerick squad?? will be lucky if ther is one local in the starting 11 soon enough..

What does it matter if there is any locals in the team?

Tried locals the best of the locals didnt want to play with Limerick the ones that did were not good enough.

How many times have you seen Conor Kavanagh play pal?

Also of the above Limerick based players now signed with Athlone (and there will be more), how many of them would Limerick FC like on their books at the moment (honestly)???

It matters that they are successful that is all that matters so they should sign players that are not good enough because they are local?

And please dont use the you wont get support with no locals excuse cos we dont get it with em either.

And abbeyfeale only 2 would be good enough for the squad only one good enough to start.

Treaty Gooner

I don't think it's about the supporters, it's about good young players who might aspire to play for Limerick seeing a squad of Dubs or Nordies or whatever and thinking they haven't a chance. It's too short term to say we'll take the best and brightest and not giveca local a shot. If/when the money runs out and/or you can't attract the big players, what will you be left with?

Monster
24/06/2011, 10:32 AM
you are 100% right treaty a limerick team with no locals what a joke..I agree that some of the locals dont want to play but having none at all and thats the way its heading is not the answer..

But Limerick played with majority of local players for a good few years and it was getting the club no where. All we where listening to was that most the players signed wouldn't get near most premier teams in Limerick. The best players weren't interested in signing for Limerick so why hang around and wait for them to. The club is getting in a lot of young Limerick lads for the U19 and A team and anyone good enough will make the step up. Brosnan is now getting a few games and Sheedy is on the bench even though he hasn't got a run yet. The opportunities are there if you are good enough. Limerick are also trying to put in u17 and Minor teams but are being denied and have an Academy setup for the younger kids again. This is hopefully where the players will come through and want to play for Limerick.

For years the top junior players haven't been interested in playing for Limerick and at the moment this hasn't changed. Jeffrey Judge, Shane Tracey, Gary Sheehan, Denis Behan, Sean Brosnan, Barry Sheedy, Garbhan Coughlan, Pat Purcell(even though I think Pat is originally a dub ha) and Thomas Lyons (who is supposedly injured)are all in or around the first team. Thats 9 players around the first team alone. David Donnan and Lavin are also said to be near making the step up from the A team too.

Getting Premier football back for the return to the Markets Field is what is most important now.

Treaty Gooner
24/06/2011, 2:32 PM
That's a fair point jofspring, and I agree totally. The main point of my argument is that development of local players is as important as making a fist of it with the new stadium. The club seems to be putting measures in place for this, but BWA's point to me is madness. Success is important, but not if you alienate local fans by neglecting local players.

shane played with arsenal for two years trained and played with the likes of fabregas cliche to name a few has a host of international underage and youth caps along with conor who spent two seasons with Blackburn and has numerous international caps both of them are under 22 years of age and people say they are going nowhere.. very disrespect to two young lads who have already achieved a lot in the game.. and two nice lads aswell..

The Connery story is old news now, has been posted three times already. The dogs in the Tipperary streets are barking about it. Some deal for a lad who never established a permanent place with St.Michaels but fair dues to him.

make your mind up you have slagged him off in a lot of your posts go back and read them?? He is a great player and if he was playing junior he would be best in town..Limerick have had so many false dawns in the last 15-20 years and it's going to take time to get the people of Limerick to believe in senior soccer in this town and credit to pat o Sullivan he is an inspiration to everyone and is winning that battle it's going to take time but if you had a team with a fair sprinkling of local talent and playing attractive football not the s*#T scully is encouraging with 5 at the back at home and allways falling flat against the so called bigger teams for the past two seasons with his massive budget I think people would come and support the club.. He didnt start munster junior you quoted 3 games I am basing my opinion on the whole season where he didn't establish himself on the 1 st eleven foggy had work commitments towards end of seasons so that worked against him , I'm not saying John was a poor player his decent player/ fella but he was not an automatic choice and I think he will do fine for pike and best of luck to both parties

100% agree with that ya.

And you must have went back an awful long way to find me slagging off Shane.

I never said he was a bad player i said he was playing crap last year because he was playing crap last year which was frustrating because i know how good he is.

The 5 at the back happened once ever since Pat is in charge and he does play some nice football at times but nice football doesnt get you out of the 1st division. Id rather get out of the 1st then play nice football.

Id love to see locals in as much as anybody but if they are not good enough then what would the point be?
