Saw St.Michaels play in Tipperary Cup quarter-final to-night (they beat Cashel Town 4-0) and now realise the huge loss Chalkey Walsh will be to them in the final. He was absolutely brilliant, and to crown a five star display scored the third goal. Saints major asset is their number of clean sheets which is mainly due to the central partnership of Breen and Walsh. Some headache for St.Michaels replacing him.have they got another centre half?who will replace him.

I think Pike and Clonmel Town both thought they were too strong for Carrick last year as well, the squad is as resilent as they come will give Michaels one hell of a game in the final. Im looking forward to see Carrick taking on one of the best Junior teams I have seen, Hopefully we'll get 3/1 in the bookies just like the morning of the FAI Junior final 3 years ago.
No one at Saints thinks they are too strong for Carrick there is nothing but the utmost respect for Carrick up here. They are a class act and have been over the last number of years, you just have to take a look at the Roll of Honour to prove it! Im looking forward to the final and hopefully we will come out on top.

over last few seasons paul tobin has played center half when chalkie has been missing, with young mikey fitzgerald coming in right full, this season caolan o gorman young youths player has played right full for 1st team. also as in pike game pa quinn slotted in center half, he has all attributes of good defender plus blistering pace in fact he played alot of underage football as a center half so he is deffo an option. also youths player james power has great potential to be top junior center half but is a little too inexperenced for a mjc final. id go with trevor cosgrove paul tobin breeno and higgins as my back 4 in mjc final. trevor done very well at right full in pike game and has played a good bit of football as a full back over the years

If your not going to bother keeping it on topic take it to PM's... Getting right boring at this stage. Utter drivel. Although it did make me laugh with the line ...The Words Pot, Kettle, Black, seem to spring to mind. I'm sure you'll have some quick and hilarious reply for me though. You don't like Pike. Who cares. I certainly don't. Now get back on topic or give Joe Duffy a quick Buzz to air your problems (1850 715 815). The game ended almost a week ago now.

*On Topic*

We're down to 2 good teams. Who I'd like to wish the best to both, should be a cracking final. I'll hope to be able catch it. Have to give the nod to St.Mick's though I'd say. Managed to catch both Semi's and they seem the stronger outfit currently. Although in Cup Final's anything can happen. No odd's as of yet up on Paddy Power. It'll be interesting to see them.

After watching both semi finals i would have to fancy st michaels, but the loss of their centre back could be crucial as carricks centre foward is a top player and was superb against us,their goalkeeper is also top class, that said i think michaels will just about shade it.

He was at game against Cashel but didn't play. Heard unlikely to play against Crumlin. St.Michaels not taking any chances on Sunday - I hear they are fielding a weakened team.

Im really loking forward to this game, Carrick, the holders, who have being struggling with injuries all season are entering their 3rd MJC final in a row take on the all mighty St. Michaels of Tipp Town, going for a Munster Junior, FAI Junior, TSDL & Tipperary Cup Quadruple. Both sides met in the last 16 of the FAI Junior Cup last year Michaels coming on top of a 1nil win in Carrick after Thomas Fitzgerald missed a penalty. Michaels have won all but one of their previous meetings a 2-0 for Carrick in the Munster senior cup 4 years ago. Michaels are probably the best team in the country at the moment but however are missing the talisman and Irish captain James Chalkie Walsh through suspension. This could go either way but im predicting 1-1 and Carrick to edge it on pens :p

Best of luck to both sides and may the best team win.

Exactly, may the best team win. He is a huge loss, but Saints have the squad to withstand the loss of Chalky, of that there is no doubt.

This looks like a low scoring game. Carrick have conceded just 9 goals in 15 league games while St.Michaels have gone through the Munster and FAI cups with a massive number of clean sheets. Chalkey Walsh will be a huge loss to St.Michaels and one wonders who will replace him. St.Michaels are pumped up as favourites but remember (1) Carrick are holders (2) the game is in Waterford (3) Saints most influential player is suspended. I think it will be 1-0 - but cannot make up my mind who will win.

Hoping for a classic on Saturday evening. Think the big factor will be discipline - who can keep their 11 players on the pitch the longest. This particularly crucial for Carrick. Although a bit off their standard of the last couple of years they are still very difficult to beat. But with anything less than parity with Michael's in terms of numbers will I think be fatal for them. If they can be agressive but disciplined and get good games out of Wayne Fitz (at full fitness?), Nipper and Adam McSharry, I'd give them a really good shout. Adrian Walsh will need to make a few good saves as the defence isn't up to scratch - but no better keeper to depend on.

Bring it on - some showers forecast which should see the pitch in good shape and few better locations for a game like this (FAI final wouldn't be out of place there either).

Yeah, Michaels do seem unstoppable at the moment. Given the injury problems Carrick have been dealt, it looks like a bridge too far for them tonight. But they keep on going to the same well and coming out with something.
It is a big ask for them and their spirit and resilience is strong which may be a hopeful factor for them.

Well done to St. Michaels.

They dominated the second half, but Michaels had the first. Carrick just lumped the ball aimlessly for a lot of the first half. Adam was outstanding when he dropped to midfield after half time. He couldn't get in the game while up front. Wayne Fitzgerald was very good throughout, but I felt he was wasted at centreback. He could have been more influential in midfield instead of Alan Ryan. And you knew it was not going to be Carricks day when they brought on Glen Keane. Surely they can't be that short of players.

Just want to say also, I thought the grass was dreadfully long and hindered both teams playing a passing game.

Glen Keane had a great chance to equalise from a header (from an Adam McSherry cross). Hit the base of the post with Flipper beaten. Also, the full back might have scored a sensational goal for Carrick near the end but it fizzed wide.

Not sure how they took off Fogarty and left Pa Quinn on. I thought Quinn was terrible.

I really enjoyed this game though, very entertaining and a real battle. Saints held on........just.

First off I would like to say Congrats to St. Michaels team and management for their Victory.

Beaten 1nil is hard to take especially with the pressure we had in the second half.
Michaels goal came around the 25 min mark when a loose ball broke in midfield the Michaels centre mid carried and looked bottled up until two of our defence slipped his shot from 20 yards beat the dive of Adrian Walsh but crashed off the post on the way out hit the keeper on the head popped up lovely on the forehead of the on rushing Michaels striker a cruel way to concede. We dominated the 2nd half led by Adam McSharry switched to midfield, Glen Keane hit the post when should have scored and Mac had a couple of drives that tested the keeper. We heaped on the pressure but couldn't past a resilient defence led by the ever brilliant Paul Breen.

What started out to be good natured singing by the Michaels crowd in the main stand soon turned nasty after half time, the chants to Alan Coady were disgusting to say the least. Also the chants of " mobile home" and "you've no toilet in your house" toward the Carrick fans were hard to take.
Ive seen Michaels fans on this forum defending the club saying these are only a small minority and the club can't control who goes to away games, well its about time they came up with a policy as the yobs are bringing your great club down. We take great pride in roaring our team on but never at the expence of our pride, St Michaels "singing section" should be ashamed of themselves.

Best of luck to the team in the FAI.

Some things have'nt changed!!
Just a quick thank you to the 3 St.micks supporters(a lovely woman with her daughter and husband) who managed to get rid of the St micks fans(mostly 18/19 year olds) who took it upon themselves to verbally abuse and phyiscally intimidate me for the majority of the first half. Never been subject to that sort of behaviour in my time in football. Gladly I can say they were a very small selection of the St.micks crowd..

On the game, St micks outplayed pike in all sections of the park, they certainly missed colbert and Tierney tonight. Saying all that, Pike missed 3 or 4 cracking chances, 2 by Alan Barry and hitting the cross bar at 2-0 down. The better team went through. Best of luck in the final.
Yes. there is a nasty bunch of 'supporters' following St.Michaels whom I'm sure the club are not so proud of. I noticed them at a couple of cup games last season.
However I am glad they won tonight. As a neutral it might calm some of the relentless and ill founded boasting that we are hearing from Pike supporters. Last edited by Mission Bell; 10/04/2011 at 7:46 AM.

If you read the 1st line of my post I said it started as good natured, please don't give me it happens at football grounds all around the country, we are not English soccer hooligans, chant for your team and do not aim it opposition players, its a disgrace to defend the carry as just banter what was aimed at Alan Coady what you see as banter is highly insulting. Time for you to grow up enjoy your football and support your own team.

As someone who was at the game, what was heard was not 'banter'.
Banter is fine and something we all enjoy. However this was'nt banter, it was nasty and you will only hear it at the type of 'football ground' that attracts a certain kind of supporter. As has been previously seen on these pages these St.Michaels 'supporters' are known for it and will long in the memory of those who were in Ozier Park last night.
On the field, after an even first half in which Michaels scored a rather fortunate opener, a half time switch saw Carrick dominate proceedings but try as they might they did'nt have any such luck.
But Carrick can be proud of the spirit and resilience they showed to ht efinal whistle.
The game was well officiated and was hard and fair.
Pity the abiding memory will be of the aforementioned nastiness.

Im not one bit surprised and wait until the saints supporters come on here saying how they are being victimised,The fai cup final was taken out of limerick last year apparently cos saints refused to travel for safety reasons due to the objections re pike, yet for a club that was so intimidated they spent the entire game in turners cross singing disgusting songs about pike rovers,I agree its a minority that every club has but there is nothing stopping people involved in the club approaching these people and telling them they are out of order,

You all need to grow up. 'Nasty' behaviour my back side. It was all good natured. The song about no toilets in your house was sung following a similar comment from a Carrick supporter. And Carrick supporters were heard giving plenty of stick and abuse to Saints players so don't get on your high horses about Coady getting stick - he gave Saints supporters the finger after he was jeered for a nasty tackle. That said, the same people being referred to on here as yobs shook Coady's hand and several other Carrick's players hands after the game. Carrick supporters gave as good as they got yesterday - if they cannot mobilise their support to sing a few songs like Saint's supporters did (many that rebuked comments from Carrick supporters), that's more of an indictment on them than us. It was just a case of everyone in the ground being able to hear the Saints fans but not the sole Carrick voices venting their spleen. The girls supporting Carrick were great crack and we had great fun with them. We commiserated with them after the game and they wished Saints well - I don't hear them on here complaining. In fairness, Carrick lost a game they probably deserved to get more out of, it was a classic game of two halves, but take the beating in good spirits, lads, and don't be so disingenuous.
