breaking news is that Keith Gillespie ( ex glentoran, Sheff Utd,Newcastle UTD) is in talks with Dundalk for a possible move. If this is the case it will be some move!

Don't think he did much for Glens last year so I don't know how much use he'd be to Dundalk

Was very average for Glens anytime I seen him.
Also, no surprise that he is leaving, when Glens have asked him to take a pay cut.

Saw him play for Glens against Bohs in the SETANTA, did nothing of note and looked way past best. To be fair he had only joined them shortly before and may have been match "rusty" but could not see him adding much to Dundalk.

"If this transfer goes through it would surely go down as the biggest acquisition in LOI history"

Not too sure about this from that blog.

Yeah if he was signing 15 years ago maybe. As it is it's about level with Rod's stellar signings of Carlton Palmer and Efan Ekoku.

I read in the Mirror an interview with their manager(cant remember his name) during the week.
He said he was looking to sign a midfielder and a striker from the LOI.
he came across quite smug about it. It would be dissapointing to lose two quality players to those guys

Jaysus, |i thought the opposit. Thought he wasnted far too long on the ball. No doubt he's talented but far better when in space then when he's pressed

Dont see it mentioned anywhere but someone told me at our game last night that Rory Gaffney and two more Mervue players I cant recall are on their way to Galway United.

Gaffney could be a great signing if he continues to improve.

"Peanuts" according to the Board.
If we had to sell him here and now I would be looking for at 250,000 but if it was at the end of the season id let him go for 100,000.

I might be wrong, and if i am then so be it.....
but as far as I'm aware podge is only on a 1 year contract with sligo.
he can/will walk away at the end of the season and either go to a bigger club in the league or else "across the water".

He was signed on a two year contract.

But with a 20,000 euro release clause to join an Irish or UK team according to the mirror, which also said that Podge fancies the move to Portugal. Sligo dont seem to be in a great bargaining position.

Shamrock Rovers had him since he was 14 so will be due a large development fee from the transfer if it goes thru.

A four year contract in Portugal is a great chance for the lad, hope he gets the chance.

Sligo dont seem to be in a great bargaining position. It's a Portugese team bidding for him, not an Irish or UK team so the release clause is irrelevant. He has another year contract with us so he shouldn't be too cheap.
Shamrock Rovers had him since he was 14 so will be due a large development fee from the transfer if it goes thru. We'll just tell them he wasn't there as long as they think, even though it's clear to everyone he was and give them a smaller cut of the deal.

Sure an Irish or English team could buy him for 20K and sell him on again to Portugal for a nice quick profit. The orphanage dude Manu signed last week was only at his club a few weeks and then moved on again after Quiroz tipped off Manu.

But there were rumours earlier in the season that either Dundee or Dunee United had offered us 100,000 for him and it was rejected?
Like I said rumours but I cant see the board having such a tiny release clause.
The word going around is podge wants to finish the season with us anyway.

It's on Sky transfer news:

The Editor: Some transfer news for Irish football fans as skysports.com understands Sligo Rovers striker Padraig Amond could be set for a move to Portugal with Pacos Ferreira. Sligo have accepted an undisclosed fee for Amond, who is the current top scorer in the Airtricity League.

Now that he'll be playing abroad he becomes eligible for a call up to the ROI senior squad!

That 20k clause still makes very little sense to me. I know Among had the bargaining power because he was still wanted at his old club, but still the only logical conclusion is that they genuinely had no idea how good he was. Can't see any bid the Portuguese club made being much higher than 20k.

Wasn't too much bargaining power. Remember he was released by Rovers and looking for a club. He obviously asked for the clause as he wanted out of Sligo asap.

Considering Rico didn't deem him good enough for the League selection...

Apparently they offered 30k originally but Cook told them to come back with a 6 figure sum and they might consider selling...

Well Richardson's judgement is hardly the best. 7-1 says it all.

In fairness there was damn all Rico could do, the LOI team was set up for a fall coming together in mid season with more important things on their mind and with only a day or too to prepare. They could scarcely have been better set up to ship a hammering.
