I think RTE 2's late news may have the goals from the Pats/Sligo setanta semi. 4 great goals for Pats, with Ryan Guy's 4th the pick of the bunch

This league gets worse and worse. We were **** toinght, yes. But we were beaten by a very mediocre team. Well done Pete Mahon, serious organisation there at Richmond.
A mediocre team who took its chances. Which, after all, is the point of the sport
No highlights on RTE but they'll be on the Pats youtube page later. First one up

yeah its the leagues fault you were thumped 4-1 i personally blame the ref and the 4th official for our bad luck between them they give us nothing.
I thought you played well just unfortunate that we scored with our 1st 3 shots.
oddly been a while since we beat sligo 4-1 twas the normal score back when we were good.

Shocking defending from us for the first 3 goals. It was actually a pretty even game but Pats just took their chances. We probably had as many chances as Pats. Very poor crowd.

I'd guess Sligo had more of the ball but can only think of Dan Connor being used once or twice. A few corners and frees but agian didn't do much with it. It was a very open game, even if I think we scored with our first three chances.
Definitely had a fair few chances to wrap it up before Guy's screamer

Nobody can argue with the result last night. Our defending was shocking and we'd had to have scored 4/5 goals to get out of there with anything. Not sure why players like Blinkhorn, O'grady, keane werent in the starting lineup. I would have had the setanta cup in as a main objective so dont know why we changed lineup. Foran had an absolute nightmare in central defence resulting in us conceding so many. He'd prob be a decent right back but he was all over the place last night. We had alot of possession at times and did nothing with it - at times in the final 3rd we didnt know what to do. Pat's took their chances and that's what it's all about. Pat's didnt play near as well as they could but they didnt need to. Great goal from Guy. a brilliant strike.
This result will prob affect the attendance now for the next leg. Could be a good game but an awful lot to do. We should have done much better than that last night. :(

yea, saw that apparently galway were looking for a dispensation to sign a keeper outside the transfer window. league rejected the initial approach but they hope to be more successful in getting a keeper before game V Bohs.
Seems very, very careless management to start a season with one keeper (or are other keeper(s) at the club injured ?).

We have two keepers signed Barry Ryan and Seamus Friel, both injured.

the rule is from what I can remember of the top of my head is that if you have two keepers injured and both are professional the special dispensation can be given.
But if you have two keepers and one is professional and the other amateur then you cant do anything.
We had this issue a couple of seasons ago and our goalkeeping coach played for the best part of the season.

If it was "the best part of the season" were you not tempted to keep him in goals as he was obviously doing something right? :p

Could be wrong but think the "best part" referred to lenght rather than quality of duration.;)

Yep. He is the younger brother of Paddy.
He only turned 17 in Feb of this year if i am correct and is in 4th year in school still. Apperently he was offered a 3 year contract by Burnley but chose to stay and do his leaving cert.
He has talent and potential, but he is a long way off being the finished article but i suppose playing week in week out for us will only make him a better player and will help his progress.
GuisaSaigon
16/04/2010, 1:50 PM
That could be the problem, Battery Rover. I'd imagine Friel is on an amateur contract. Stupid rule, The FAI are trying to encourage clubs to stay within budget but then penalising them for doing so by signing amateur players.

Sounds daft alright.
You could sign another amateur for a couple of weeks of course (no transfer window for amateurs), but then I assume it wouldn't be straightforward for him going back to his local club?
GuisaSaigon
16/04/2010, 2:22 PM
Only a few weeks left in Local Junior league, anyone good enough isn't going to leave their club before the chance of winning the league. Anyone from outside the area will be looking for a few quid. Doesn't help that Salthill,Mervue and ourselves are all drawing from the same pool (or should that be puddle?).

if they are with a junior club they cant be signed until June 1st I think it is. Any player unregistered or released before the last transfer window ended would be allowed sign
