Any idea how tickets are selling for this game? Far too expensive for a stand ticket in particular imo.

Agree. Going for side terrace for the 2 Thomond games.

This was a great chance for FAI to give recognition to Block Bookers who took tickets for this game by reducing the prices from 55 to 40, 35 to 25 and 25 to 20.

Don't know for sure, but I heard these tickets are dearer that it was to see Munster in the Heiniken Cup.

As a matter of interest what do you expect/want as your squad?
Mine would be:

Given
Westwood
B. Murphy

Kilbane
Delaney
O'Shea
Dunne
St. Ledger
Finnan (if fit)
Foley
Kelly

Duff
McGeady
Lawrence
S. Hunt
Andrews
Whelan
J.McCarthy
Gibson

Keane
Doyle
Folan
Best/N. Hunt

If it was an extended squad I'd consider places for McCann, Delap, Ward, O'Dea and some others.

Brian Murphy plays in the LOI so no chance of getting a call up and whats up with having McCarthy in there and not Fahey?

I'd imagine Trapp will use the get together as a means of preparing the senior players for the Cyprus match.

As for the game well that could be used to try out a few things and also give a chance for a few other players to impress.

I think we saw the value of that when Trapp played quite a few new players in the team against Nigeria, which can only be good for the players morale and the long term good of the national team.

If players are doing well for their clubs then friendlies and training get togethers are a good way of keeping these players involved in the set up, and ready if we should need them.

It also gives Trapp a chance to see if they are what he needs and are capable of stepping up to International level.

I think thats what Trapp is aiming to do long term, get players used to how he works and the systems he employs.

All in all this, can only be good for the Irish National team and set up.

I doubt there'll be any huge surprises in this squad, as much as we'd all love to see Andy Reid back and James McCarthy or Sean Scannell given a call up the likliehood is that its just gonna be the same squad as last time and to be fair thats not nessecarily a bad thing

This is a great opportunity to give St Ledger & Foley more game time, can't see them making any more changes than that

agreed, this game, and any training sessions that accompany it will be used to re-familiarise the squad with each other before the Cyprus game. If Reid/McCarthy/McCann/Fahey (accept it) was in unstoppable form then yes they should be called up, but with no games played by the time of the Australia game there's no justification in changing what is a settled squad.

Any new caps should be handed out in the South Africa friendly, IMO

I'm not asking you to believe me ffs.

Its just what I heard, and the lad that told me doesn't want his name put up on an internet message board! Simple as that!

For all I know, he could be wrong. Just saying what I heard!

All the "name your source" stuff is a bit ridiculous.

I love the rumours this time of year, whether they're true or not, who cares?

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story! :D

I think a couple of new faces have to be included. Definitely 2 out of McCarthy, McCann and Fahey should be picked even just to get them used to being in the squad. They could have stormers this season and make big shouts for inclusion in a World Cup squad IF we qualify.

Trap needs 2 dig out a left back from somewhere. Is there anybody that's worth a shout for this squad? Kilbane has been a great servant but he's only getting older and slower.

I wonder will Murphy get a call up?I doubt Murphy would get a call up, Bohs are playing the night before. I can't see them being too happy with losing their main keeper for a meaningless game like this.

I think he's in with a good shout. Trap certainly wans't impressed by Henderson when he was called up the last time.

And the FAI always put the national team ahead of the needs of the LOI, so the fixture clash wouldn't be a major issue. Besides, it would be good for Bohs to have him included - put him even more in the shop window and maybe get in some much needed cash! :ball:

Also, I remember Trap saying for some friendly before that no LOI players were in the squad cos they were in the middle of their season so if he was telling the truth, he wouldn't do it again this time. Although I personally believe he was just using that as an excuse not to have any LOI in the squad.

I agree - I'd say Trap was just using that as an excuse.

You are right about it being Bohs decision whether to release him or not. But I'd be very surprised if they didn't let hi go! Fenlon has been saying he should be in the squad for long enough, after all...

I don't believe it is Bohs decision.

It is a designated international date so internationals get preference.

Anyhow I don't believe Trap will pick him, just in my opinion.

It aint as simple as that. Bohs pay his wages.

Hopefully he'll be in the squad, he deserves it.

http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=100187:trapattoni-names-24-man-squad-for-australia-match&catid=1:senior-men&Itemid=8

Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, has today (Thursday, July 30th) named a 24 man squad to face Australia in Thomond Park on Wednesday, August 12th.

Included in the squad are Wolves duo, Kevin Foley and Kevin Doyle, while local born players, Eddie Nolan (Waterford), Liam Miller (Cork), Shane Long (Tipperary), Stephen Hunt (Waterford) and John O’Shea (Waterford) are also named.

Trapattoni also announced that three players have been placed on stand-by for the visit of Australia: Alex Bruce, Damien Delaney and Steven Reid.

Speaking at the announcement, Giovanni Trapattoni said, “This upcoming friendly against Australia in Thomond Park in Limerick is of utmost importance to our side as it acts as our final game ahead of our World Cup qualifier against Cyprus in Nicosia in September. Australia, who have already qualified for the World Cup, will provide a stern test for the team as Pim Verbeek and his team have advanced through the Asian World Cup qualifiers undefeated in the final qualification phase.

“I am looking forward to playing an international friendly of this stature at the magnificent Thomond Park in Limerick. I am aware of the proud sporting culture in Limerick and I am sure that the people of Munster will get behind the team for this game.”

Tickets for the Republic of Ireland friendly against Australia on August 12th are now on sale. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and are on sale in outlets throughout Munster and Connaught.

Tickets for this match are available for €25 (South terrace), €35 (East and West terrace) and €55 (East and West stands).

Why would you not include James McCarthy in a friendly squad like this, let him come along and get some experience in it, hang with the guys.....

stephen reid and steve finnan not included , understandable i spose given injuries they have had, however i see reid getting in for cyprus but not finnan.

Makes you think if we did have finnan, reid and ireland though.....

He is keeping things consistent and keeping the main core together, thats a good idea i believe, no point in bringing mccarthy in yet because he isn't going to make an impact and he could be keeping someone out that has been there from the off, upsetting the atmosphere a little. Trap isn't just building a football team he is building a happy family. Good idea in the case of a play-off where lads will give everything for the team, fans themselves, but most importantly their team-mates. Nothing more important than willing to die for your team mates in a play-off game.

Agree can't believe McCarthy hasn't been called in it's not the same rubbish again as Reid too creative to be included.
Miller he's not even with a club what a joke, thought Stephen Ward might get a call up considering he had an outstanding season at Wolves primarily as a left back and there now in premiership so surely the lads confidence would be sky high, would be a good utility man to have in the squad alo.

Brian Murphy despite being outstanding for Bohs this season again including both champions league games has been left out again. It's clear now he will have to wait until he moves to England, plays half a dozen or so games & suddenly becomes good enough

Nolan ahead of O'Dea surprises me. I think O'Dea is better.

I don't like Miller but he was good at Craven Cottage.

I don't see the rush with McCarthy, I really don't. I like Garvan but Gibson is similar and I like McCann but Andrews is very similar.

The immediate priority is to win a huge game in September and this is what the friendly should be about. We then play big games in October and November.

The future can wait until after that as far as I'm concerned.
