That's what I was saying about Stephen Elliott's first season (18 Championship goals?), plus his early goals in the Premiership.
One-on-ones, headers, tap ins, shots, on the turn, the lot, but he's a squad player at best for us. Keane & Doyle are our undisputed best pairing and I'm very excited by Keogh, not so much as a goalscorer but as a very dangerous forward player.

Murphy is a decent player but I'd close my eyes if he had a one-on-one to win either of September's games. He's skillful though & creates goals with his flicks and his good left foot.

Long really impressed me when he came on against Slovakia and 3 goals in his last 2 games for us can't be knocked. He was awful in San Marino but so was everyone, bar KK, Hunt & Stokes.

And also, I doubt either would get as many goals has he has in League 1
well there's a guy on my amateur team that bangs in 20-30 goals a season and he gets all types of goals: long-rangers, headers, poachers goals, individual goals...great player, maybe he should get called up because he offers something different!

Extreme example maybe but my point is that there are plenty of flair players that offer something different in the lower leagues of England but that doesn't mean that they are capable of making the step up...Lee Trundle is one of these players. I genuinely don't think that he will ever play in the Premiership and don't think he'll ever be a better all-round player than the young lads we have there at the moment...

Elliot was given a chance because of the dearth of strikers available to us at the time. If either Keane or Morrison was injured, then it was up to the Doc to come off the bench and stay up front to try and win the game for us, now we have Keogh, Long, Stokes, etc all vying for a squad position.
Besides Keane, Morrison, Doc, Connolly, Elliot, Lee, Crowe and Byrne, did Brian Kerr pick any other strikers for his squad? And Byrne's 18-second cameo (or however long it was) barely counts. Did Crowe ever come off the bench for Kerr? Doyle was on the bench once for him, against Cyprus away I think.
So far Stan has picked Keane, Morrison, Lee, Keogh, Elliott, Long, Stokes, Murphy, as well as giving Byrne a decent run out, and calling up Folan and Dixon. He has a far wider pool of strikers available (let's save the argument about talent for another day), and obviously does not see the need for Trundle.

What like Kevin Keegan you mean?

Everyone has to start somewhere and Trundle started at the bottom
and has actually impproved as he moved up scoring more not less.
Also a lot of our strikers are light weight and Trundle offers a bigger presence up front.

    Hmmm.....

Strikers from the recently announced squad:
Kevin Doyle, Robbie Keane, Andy Keogh, Shane Long, and Daryl Murphy
Add in Trundle and compare stats of height and weight.
    Code:
    Name Height
    Daryl Murphy 6'3
    Kevin Doyle 6'
    Lee Trundle 6'
    Andy Keogh 6'
    Shane Long 5'10
    Robbie Keane 5'9
    Code:
    Name Weight
    Daryl Murphy 12st 12lbs
    Kevin Doyle 12st 8lbs
    Lee Trundle 11st 6lb
    Robbie Keane 11st 7lbs
    Shane Long 11st 2lbs
    Andy Keogh 11st
He wouldn't really add anything in either department that we don't already have.

BTW, I'm not saying he should be in the squad, or out of the squad, I'm saying that he doesn't offer more in terms of strength or height that we don't already have

In fairness Trundle looks a lot bigger (fatter) and stronger than the likes of Andy Keogh. I think those stats are incorrect. Doyle isn't 6 foot either as far as I know. Slightly smaller.

anyone who really thinks he should be in the squad at this present time needs their head examined... we've never had so many strikers and people are crying for some 29yr old guy just come up for the friggin 3rd tier... give me a break.

Afraid I don't get the Keegan reference so that's passed me by but you're saying he's improved as he's moved up by scoring more.........At the risk of repeating myself...HE'S ONLY PLAYED 3 GAMES!!!! Lets see how many he scores over the course of the season....

google "Kevin Doyle" +Height and you'll get various answers. Smallest is 5'10, most is 6'.
On the Reading site it's down as 5'11, so I'll take that instead

    Code:
    Name Height
    Daryl Murphy 6'3
    Andy Keogh 6'
    Lee Trundle 6'
    Kevin Doyle 5'11
    Shane Long 5'10
    Robbie Keane 5'9
    Doesn't really change anything

Some of those height and weight figures look rather suspect.
I'd say Trundle is closer to 12 stone and looks like he weighs more the Doyle,
who is 5'11 according to some sources.
Another site puts Trundle on 84kg which is over 13 stone, hard to believe Doyle is heavier than him.

As were vitually all our strikers a year or 2 ago, at least he is on his way up, as opposed to down.

Come Off It!!! You'd say the same thing if someone moved from the third tier to the premiership?....He's just come from the 3rd tier...sure ya wouldn't use that argument!

It's all about proving yourself at a higher level. I'm a fan of Trundle like yourself but I think it wouldn't make sense to have him ahead of Long, Keogh, Murphy or Lee (and probably Connolly and Morrisson too). Wait until he does more in the Championship to push for his inclusion, which I think he will.
