Apparently Shamrock Rovers also won the now defunct Dublin City Cup twice on corners as well! obviously they are corner specialists as well as cup specialists!
The Irish News Cup was limited to teams from around the border so teams did not qualify on merit. Ballymena did reach the final one year and it's hardly a border area I appreciate but this was not a true north v south competition open to all.
As has been pointed out corners were used in the past to decide certain cup ties including the 1943 Inter city Cup final. 1 leg of which was played at Windsor Park. I think it is unliekly that Rovers will play Bohs again there.
.
I think the arrangement is that it alternates, unless both finalists are from the same association, in which case its hosted by that association.
For example, it was due to be played in N.Ireland this year, which meant the winners of Cork v Linfield would be at home for the final - Linfield, as the N.Ireland representatives, and Cork since drogs were already there and both united park and tolka park were unsuitable at the time.

There was major trouble at many of the games during the Tyler Cup.
People in Ballybofey still talk about the visits of Linfield and Glentoran. It was total mayhem.
The Irish News Cup sprung out of the old Ulster Tyre Cup competition that was a North-West trophy.
Initially involving just Derry and Harps, it got extended over the years to include Limavady, Coleraine, Omagh, Sligo and possibly Fanad (?). Ballymena were also included, though I didn't know that Dundalk were in it as well
Dundalk played in the Irish News Cup at least once in the late 90s. We got hammered by Derry something like 8-1 on aggregate one year, maybe 97-8. Conceded 17 or 18 against Derry in five games that season!
AFAIK they were the only ones to ever take the Shed. It was 1979, just after Cliftonville won the league. Our older lot still hate Cliftonville because of it. They were all in school as every knacker from North Belfast descended on Milltown.
There was an apology in the Wee Red fanzine ten years later saying that they weren't Cliftonville fans but toerags who latched on the club after league win and disappeared soon afterwards.
All of the above open to correction by Hoops or Reds over 40.

It was 96-97, the year we last won the league. Beat Sligo in the finals, 5-4 on aggregate after Sligo won the first leg 3-0, and went 1-0 up at the Brandy. Basically turned out to be an U21's match.
Think it was held the following year, can't mind who won it - was it Harps?
Eventually just died a death. Steve I don't think it had anything to do with the Ulster Tyre Cup did it? I could have swore that was long gone before the Irish News Cup swung around.
Thats right it was a draw in both matches Linfield went through on away goals didn't they? when was that early 80s?
Also recall hearing that Linfield played Dundalk in Europe as well around that time and one of the ties had to be played in England or something due to security concerns!
