Fairly certain these threads are for keeping tabs and discussion of the players. I'm not championing him for the Irish side. I've never seen him play. His name just popped up.

I started the thread as a sideswipe at the pointlessness of chasing a guy like this, but I see in 4-4-2 this month he is being touted as a potential transfer to the Champoinship with Brentford looking a bit daft for releasing him.

Some background info if interested. Lanre, spent most of his football education at The Academy of West Ham. played alongside Bondz N'Gala (currently 1st team sub at WHFC) his link to Ireland is his Irish mum. main reason for playing at Histon is probably he can earn as much there as in div 1.

Played a blinder today as York were promoted to League Two, starting out playing on the right side of a three man midfield and ending up playing right back and making some crucial blocks. Also scored the second in their 2-0 FA Trophy win last weekend at Wembley. From what I've seen of him he's definitely capable of playing in League Two and very possibly higher. As I recall one of the reasons he stayed in the Conference in spite of having some suitors from the Football League was he was finishing a degree or working or something like that.

I'm sure he'll move into football league and further up the ranks once that is completed.

While specialist midfielders often do stand in at right back (Fletcher and Valencia at United, for instance), it's quite for a right-back to move into midfielder, unless it's as a winger. I haven't seen Oyebanjo play, but if that's a narrow 3-man midfield they play then he must have something about him.

I'm pretty sure York are full time anyway so perhaps he already made that transition.

He slotted in for Challinor when he went off injured after about 40 minutes, I wouldn't say he was getting deep in to the channels like a winger prior to that. He also takes many of their set pieces and has a long throw.

As a side note, Keith Keane who has been at Luton for years played the full 90 in the middle of midfield in a similar formation.

Plenty to admire about this lad. He surely has his degree finished at this stage and may well be able to devote an even further level of commitment to the game now.

A very pragmatic and grounded viewpoint by him and, as far as I'm aware, York were willing to stick him in midfield, as well as his natural right-back, showing he has a bit about him when it comes to football too. (EDIT: My memory serves me correct, as per the self-explanatory image above )

Hopefully the ascent continues.
