If that's the case, then why take him on loan at all?

I can see why he'd be annoyed. He can sit on the bench/play reserves for Everton.

It's a strange one all right. Howe took him on despite having a wealth of options, which seemed to be an indication that he rated Duffy highly and he would slot straight into the team. After starting and playing Duffy for the full game against Ipswich he dropped him to the bench afterwards, making it look like it may have actually been a glorified trial.

Assuming Howe and Moyes discussed things over and with the move having the appearance of a "glorified trial", as it were, with Howe apparently looking more at the viability of a long-term (permanent?) move for Shane, does this imply that Moyes, at this current moment in time, is prepared to let Shane leave Everton for good? Or is Howe talking about a long-term loan deal?

I think he meant medium-term, i.e. a year-long loan next season. Duffy's rated very highly at Everton - captain of the reserves since he was 18.

Moyes rates Duffy highly, as does Alan Stubbs, along with a few other high profile managers. Prior to his injury, Moyes allegedly turned down an offer from another Premiership club for Duffy, so taking that into account, I very much doubt that Moyes will be keen to let him go, but you never know.

Just wondering how much the life-threatening injury has affected his game.

He's not in the squad for the United game tomorrow so looks like he'll have to wait til August to get another taste of first team action

If he's not even making the squad currently, really slim hope of getting a taste of 1st team action before the season ends I would have thought

On the bench. Coleman starts. As do Gibson and O'Shea.

My trusted source of match day squads was wrong. I hold my hands up and acknowledge my error. Perhaps he will get a taste of prem action before the season is out

Don't worry, it's not your error, it's your source's error.
Who knows? Moyes has given Vellios, Gueye and Forshaw (all attacking players, mind you) appearances from the bench in recent games, so Duffy may get the final few minutes in one of the final games.

Paul Rowan reads that as, Shane doesn't love playing or want to play for the seniors.
