Best of luck to Shane. Fingers crossed this will provide the spring board to kickstart his career again
Duffy starts for Burnley today against Ipswich in his first competitive senior start since his injury. Interestingly O'Dea is on the bench for Ipswich, while Delaney starts.
Burnley: Grant, Mears, Easton, Bikey, Duffy, Marney, Bartley, Eagles, Rodriguez, Delfouneso, Wallace. Subs: Alexander, Iwelumo, Carlisle, Duff, Elliott, Edgar, Jensen.
Ipswich: Lee-Barrett, Carson, Kennedy, McCauley, Delaney, Leadbitter, Edwards, Norris, Bullard, Wickham, Scotland. Substitutes: Peters, Drury, Healy, Civelli, Dyer, O'Dea, Fulop.
Best of luck to Shane. Fingers crossed this will provide the spring board to kickstart his career again
Clark Carlisle appears to be have been dropped to accommodate Duffy. Duffy and Bikey are the central defence partnership. Would be great if he could get a good run of games going into the end of the season. This is his chance
Does Anyone know if conor Mcaleny a striker on the bench for everton today is eligible for us?
Don't know. There has been talk about this issue before but no one could get to the bottom of it comprehensively

Cheers for that info. Surely he has one irish grandparent. he spells Conor with one N!!
Seems to have had a good debut but Burnley still went down 2-1

Some mixed reviews on that forum. It sounds like some of them unduly overlook the fact that this was Duffy's first senior competitive game after his injury.

"Duffy 5 - First half poor, and his fault for the first goal."
"Duffy 8 Outstanding debut"
No doubt Seamus had the odd unspectacular game for Blackpool during his spell too. Plenty of time for Duffy to impress, especially if the loan is renewed for next season. I'm just pleased to hear he'll (hopefully) be playing regularly.
Much more favourable reviews here: http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php...mid=2117905141
The best defenders in the world make mistakes. I think most reasonable people will forgive an inexperienced 19 year old who has just regained full fitness and confidence after nearly dying on the pitch a few months ago.
" Reminded me of Gary Cahill. He will get better and he & Bikey could form a formiddable partnership given the chance."
"I thought he did really well - especially as he must have seen Bikey's "style" from the start and wondered what on earth was the matter with him!! I did notice he wasn't scared to talk to/direct Bikey which I thought was great.
As others have said he can only get better once he's settled, and at least he has the ability to look up and see what's what without hoofing it into oblivion like our other defenders might"
Overall the comments are very encouraging, about a young CH making his debut. And considering he was suspect for one of the goals in a game that they lost..
Duffy relegated to the bench for this game.
Burnley: Jensen, Mears, Duff, Bikey, Easton, Marney, Elliott, Eagles, Delfouneso, Iwelumo, Rodriguez. Subs: Carlisle, Wallace, Thompson, Alexander, Duffy, Edgar, Grant.
Update:
Turns out Burnley lost 4-0 - their largest league defeat of the season. Maybe it was a mistake to drop Duffy...

From his twitter, "getting ready for my last game at burnley tommorow then back to everton, gutted it didnt work out ." "Looking forward to next season bigtime tho!"
This is very disappointing. At the commencement of his loan spell the manager had him in his long-term plans for next season
Looks like there is more than what meets the eye:

cringe... i hope that wasnt you Predator!his family have criticised the decision to leave him out on this message board
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
What is alleged to have been said?
I reckon this is probably closer to the truth:
i think the twitter post Tony's referring to said 'Gutted, can't even get a game' or something along those lines. which to me isn't really criticising the manager, just saying what every normal footballer feels as sitting on the bench?!
Some are saying that the reason why Duffy did not get any games was due to his attitude, hilariously citing a twitter comment as proof. However, the twitter comment, though perhaps a tad unprofessional, wasn't directed at the manager and is not the reason why Duffy has not been getting games under Howe. The comment was a mere expression of frustration at not playing, despite successive defeats (I think it was after the 4-0 hammering they got, when Duffy was on the bench or the loss to Nottingham Forest).
Who knows why Duffy has not been played by Howe? He stuck him straight into the team at the expense of his captain and other experienced players, and immediately dropped him in favour of Michael Duff for the next couple of games (Leicester, Nottingham Forest away and Swansea at home). Duffy was no worse than the other Burnley defenders against Ipswich, so it's not necessarily a case of ability. Still, it's odd that Howe would sign Duffy on loan, despite already having 3 or 4 fit senior central defenders, just to keep him on the bench. Perhaps he felt that he needed experience while he was still chasing a playoff spot? I'd say there's still a chance that Howe would be interested in Duffy next season - whether Duffy will be interested in a move there remains to be seen.

I have herd its due to a training ground bust up
But if it was that serious you would think he would have been sent back to Everton rather than dropped to the bench
I’m sure if there’s anything in it we will find out soon enough
According to Howe:
"I thought he did okay against Ipswich in his game but we just felt we would go with the experience of Michael and Andre and they have done well together since.
"We've got Clarke, who came on tonight and did well, and we've also got David Edgar behind the scenes, so I think we're quite well off for centre-halves.
"As I said when I took him, part of the reason was to look long term with Shane. We will wait and see how pre-season goes for him and what his options are and how Everton feel, but he's done himself no harm. He goes back with our best wishes."
