I do however have a serious issue with it, when it comes to juvenile players. There are instances in the past, where players have been poached, and have been poached under very dubious circumstances.
I will be perfectly upfront about posting this, and will point a finger directly at St Michaels as being one of the clubs which should be ashamed of themselves in this regard.
And I know what I am talking about, as this happened to a player who was a relative of mine, and I know what action had to be taken by Cashel Town's schoolboys committee over the event.
A couple of years ago, three Cashel players were members of the Kennedy Cup team, which was being overseen by members of St Michaels, and within a week after coming back from the competition, they asked Cashel Town for transfers to St Michael's, because they had been promised trials with Glasgow Celtic if they moved clubs.
I know that Cashel Town made a complaint to the TSDL schoolboys committee as a result of this, and also threatened to make a complaint to both the SFAI and directly to Glasgow Celtic, informing them that St Michaels were using their name as a means of interfering in the affairs of another club.
No action was taken by the TSDL against the members of St Michaels, because they could not prove what had taken place, but the communication was put on record with the TDSL.
If anyone wishes to say this is rubbish, you can contact either club or the TSDL, and you will be told of the communications.
Poaching schoolboy players of other teams is wrong, and stunts the development of clubs. St Michaels are a fine club, but in this regard, they should be ashamed of themselves.
