However on this occasion, Quirke and Tipp FM got it badly wrong
There coverage of TSDL football is great if one is a follower of Clonmel Town or St.Michaels. What about the rest of the clubs? Peake got no recognition until they won the league. Clonmel Celtic got little credit for retaining the Tipperary Cup. Wilderness hardly got a mention for winning promotion to the Premier League. Muiris Walsh, in his capacity as PRO for Clonmel Town, ensured they got most publicity all season.

cant believe some of the posts re. R . Quirke . It seemed to me at the time , he was having a laugh at himself as much as anything else.Possibly ,
"chip on the shoulder" syndrome going on here. I do know him , and he is a very decent and honourable, not to mention presents a very good show.

God you sound very bitter. He must have doen something to upset you or Clonmel Town. I have to say he comes across well on the radio.

I think that is an unfair comment about Muiris. I think he tries to give credit to all clubs. Celtic had their PRO on when they won the Cup. Muiris has mentioned them on several occasions thoughout the season and Peake as well. And he is no longer PRO of Town

I seem to remember the manager of Peake on when they won the league. Cannot remember his name but I do remember his enthusiasm!

im just wondering what people here regard as poaching a player? i ask because the club i am familiar with have just been accused of trying to poach 2 youth players from another club. since its the off season surely this cant be seen as poaching?? how do you sign players so? do clubs consider the players still ' their ' players even when it is summer and technically they are not signed with anyone? if this is the way then no player would ever move clubs

Clubs that have had players on their books for some years (esp youth players) tend to resent it when they move. They coin the term poaching for this but as Ron has pointed out, when they are not signed to a club (over the summer) technically they are fair game. It then becomes a moral argument about the rights and wrongs of leaving a club, loyalty to the team, team mates etc. No one can legislate for a moral argument.

So, in my view, poaching, is a term which means nothing to anyone except the resentment felt by the club losing out.

When it comes to Junior players, I have no problems with it whatsoever. You are dealing with adults, and let them make whatever decisions that they like.

I do however have a serious issue with it, when it comes to juvenile players. There are instances in the past, where players have been poached, and have been poached under very dubious circumstances.

I will be perfectly upfront about posting this, and will point a finger directly at St Michaels as being one of the clubs which should be ashamed of themselves in this regard.

And I know what I am talking about, as this happened to a player who was a relative of mine, and I know what action had to be taken by Cashel Town's schoolboys committee over the event.

A couple of years ago, three Cashel players were members of the Kennedy Cup team, which was being overseen by members of St Michaels, and within a week after coming back from the competition, they asked Cashel Town for transfers to St Michael's, because they had been promised trials with Glasgow Celtic if they moved clubs.

I know that Cashel Town made a complaint to the TSDL schoolboys committee as a result of this, and also threatened to make a complaint to both the SFAI and directly to Glasgow Celtic, informing them that St Michaels were using their name as a means of interfering in the affairs of another club.

No action was taken by the TSDL against the members of St Michaels, because they could not prove what had taken place, but the communication was put on record with the TDSL.

If anyone wishes to say this is rubbish, you can contact either club or the TSDL, and you will be told of the communications.

Poaching schoolboy players of other teams is wrong, and stunts the development of clubs. St Michaels are a fine club, but in this regard, they should be ashamed of themselves.

great post.i understand exactly where you are coming from.if clubs are caught poaching players with so called promises to players(children by the way) then they should be severely punished.it happened in limerick a number of years ago when a prominent schoolboy team from the city were caught doing exactly the same thing and they were removed from schoolboy football altogether.st michaels seem to be able to do what they like out there in tipp.friends in high places and all that comes to mind.

i think its 50 miles from your school, could put an end to young lads heading up to dublin. havent heard of any players signing for town, think richie ryan is signing back with saints from UCC , he is a top player and will be huge addition to them
if it wasnt for birds and booze id have played for ireland juniors!!!!!
