But realistically, how much would anyone pay for it? I've been involved in liquidations where the trading name has gone for a hundred quid; a football club may inflate the value more, but again, if, as Kev says, there aren't potential chairmen queueing up, supply and demand laws means the value tends towards the nominal.

i hope these aren't questions that haven't been asked before but it may well have be the case:

If Derry are the "same" Derry as before, will they get a points deduction?

If Derry are a "new" Derry, on what grounds do they bypass the A League?

Is "fudge" the answer to either or both questions?

    Unclear at present. Fudge suspected.

    Scenario A

A new club would require IFA permission, would have to re-register with FAI as a member etc

    Scenario B

Same club, different trading company. Probable points deduction.

Dungannon had (afaik) already put the wheels in motion. They normally take 3 to 4 weeks to work through the system. Derry jumped before being pushed so to speak.

Forgive my ignorance in the matter but is it the case that a company has to go into administration before being liquidated?. Otherwise what's the point in administration since it seems they don't want the Wellvan company and its debts to survive?.

Maybe the FAI's getout clause on the points deduction will be that the company went into administration while not a member of the league?

but surly any club that goes into admin or liquidation would automatically have the licence suspended

You can't spell failure without FAI

Yeah, all old DCFC staff are redundant and there's no new DCFC yet to sign them.

Pressure on FAI over Derry Players

    Sunday, 22 November 2009 11:00

The FAI must allow former Derry City player James McClean to sign for Lincoln City immediately, according to Irish agent Gerry Carlile.

Derry City's League of Ireland contract was terminated earlier in the month after the club admitted holding secondary, unofficial contracts with players.

The players became free agents and Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton was desperate to have wide-man McClean in his squad for the crucial League Two derby game against Grimsby Town yesterday, which ended in a goalless draw.

However, the FAI have blocked the Northern Ireland Under-21 player's move until the transfer window opens in January.

Carlile insisted that 'common sense must prevail' under the extraordinary circumstances.

He said: 'Some of the Derry City players haven't been paid in 11 weeks and they have been told that they are free agents.

'But I have been told that they can't sign for another club until the transfer window opens. I understand that there are rules but surely this is a special case.

'Lincoln have told me that the FA will be in touch with FIFA to try to sort the situation out.

'It is a ludicrous situation. The players have been punished enough. That is another six weeks that the players will be denied the opportunity to earn a living.

'We have the FAI looking for a moral judgement from FIFA and the French FA following Thierry Henry's hand ball in midweek but they are prepared to leave players without any money in the in the run-up to Christmas - and you are not talking about players who were being paid £10,000 per week at Derry City.

'Where is the morality in that? The players have mortgages and bills to pay and some of them are spiralling into debt. Common sense must prevail and it is a matter of urgency.'

Sutton added: 'I am not 100% sure what has happened over in Ireland with Derry City but we are keen to get James signed. There is only one loser here and that is the player.'
