    Yes, excellent cast. Very good scenes in it.
    During a Dublin Theatre Festival a Chicago drama group brought it over. I got cheap matinee tickets. And during the interval most of the audience, including us, were discussing 'which one is Al Pacino, who's Jack Lemmon..'. It was cool.

    If we are going to have a poll maybe we should start seconding and thirding (is that a word ) films as well as nominating.

    DEAR SWEET JESUS. The diversity on here is so great I'm absolutley shocked that we're all linked by a love of football. Could we possibly agree on anything else?

    I'm absolutely aghast that no one has made mention of my favourite movie, Good Will Hunting - 1997, yet. Or my second favourite: American History X - 1998.

    Apart from that I'd echo most of the other posters:
    Fight Club - 1999;
    Braveheart - 1995;
    Dogma - 1999;
    The Big Lebowski - 1998;
    Chasing Amy - 1997;
    The Usual Suspects - 1994;
    Clerks - 1994;
    Orgazmo - 1997;
    Baseketball - 1998;
    The Shawshank Redemption - 1994;
    Silence of the Lambs - 1991;
    Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - 1998.
    We tend to believe that words enable thought. But words can also substitute for thought.

    Of the films mentioned already, I have not tired of watching repeats of
    The Usual Suspect, Unforgiven and Fargo.

    Maybe one film not mentioned already "Secrets and Lies"

    I enjoyed the Titanic, but only that bit where the liner sank.

    Yeah The Usual Suspects is an excellent film. Must rent Secrets and Lies in de library. I saw Mike Leigh's film Vera Drake. That was really good.

    I did say "maybe" but should have put in a question mark

    I´ll have a look at La Haine later this week.

    If I had to chose one film of the 90´s, it would be Secret and Lies.
    People can resonate with Secrets and Lies (like the best of dramas) on any number of levels. It doesn´t manipulate the viewer into feeling a certain emotion despite the numerous wtf situations. The film trusts in the viewer to observe, interpret and feel.

    The thing that struck me about it at the time, was the gentle understated, unprejudiced elegance that the educated professional woman (Hortense) expressed while in the process establishing her relationship with a disfunctional family.

    Did you know Mike Leigh never told Brenda Blethyn that the actress playing her daughter was black, so the surprise upon meeting her would be even more pronounced?

    Great, great film. One which is about subject matter so familiar to us all that it has to be made perfectly, or else the inaccuracies and shortcomings will be easily recognisable. It reminded me of Kramer versus Kramer in that sense.

    That had to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen along with Dog Soldiers

    Plus Kramer Vs Kramer is a 70s film. I watched Being John Malkovich last night. Truly a classic and utterly unique film. One of the Top films of the 1990s? And, I don't think it has even been mentioned yet.
