maybe he could get an AUL call up?

Radiostar, I think part of the problem might lie in the first sentence of your post. Giving the clubs a choice of who to send for trials is the way that schoolboy rep teams work. The AUL should appoint next years manager in next few weeks. That way he can get out to see prospective players for next years panel. And by seeing I mean get out on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings and start taking notes. See how they react in the latter stages of cup competitions this season and follow it up again in August and September. Just an idea.
Glenbuck, you make a point that I was thinking of about the appointment of the AUL manager as early as possible. Very difficult to find a suitable guy not involved with a team to see other games though. As Ola pointed out, thats why guys should manage the AUL side for more than one year. Lots of luck needed if a guy wins the Oscar Traynor from any league in his first year.
The process of clubs forwarding players is a good one. Who knows their players better than they guy who sees them 3 nights a week? It should be used as well as watching games, if he has the time.
On the Pa O Connor thing, if Pa O Connor had joined someone outside Grattan or Blackstone, would you not think the AUL manager would want to know anyway? I would. Some people may not think its fair on the others who had been around all season, but, I have learned as we have risen through the leagues - football gets less and less fairer as you get near the top.
Bottom line for this week, we dont like everything Trappatoni does but we support Ireland. Lets get behind the AUL team. Pity they put that John Giles Walk meeting on the same night.
Shetland, thats a shock. We may not agree on many things.....in fact the only one I can re-call is the performance of the ref up in yer place last season...but you will be a huge loss for Bally. Your sidekick will be lost. Hopefully its only a re-charge of batteries. Whatever we agree or disagree on, you fight your clubs corner and give many unselfish hours for your club. Not too many of them around the place. Enjoy the gardening! (Yes, Shetland, re-read that papragraph....it is a compliment!!)
Lets hope the Gratts see out the season ok and have time for a re-build during the summer.
sharpshooter you getting upset now no one will slate team just like myself everyone on this site will be hoping for win maybe you could hit four again it seem to be a habit with you
What unrest are you referring to? I'm not the one on here complaining about the selection process!! We (blackstone) had 5 went training - only 1 got selected - at the end of the day the squad is the squad and if fellas dont like it they can throw their names forward the next time it becomes available!
thanks horse, sur its only a bit of banter ,and what i have learned since this forum started,is that ola and youself and a few more are all very passionate about yere clubs and that says a lot.its tough at times but the difference in players attitudes nowadays to when you and i played is so different.you trained twice a week and had your games on weekends ,mostly for us on sun morn.;..some teams nowadays if a game was on sunday would struggle for numbers.i think the league will loose a lot of teams next year.
Lads just out of curiousity who would fellas put forward for manager of the AUL team when it next becomes available and dont dare say me Shetland!!
Why doesnt everyone on here go and watch in O'Shea park Wednesday and then pass judgement on the team and management instead of picking managers and squads for next seasons competition......
someone ola that has managed in this league and knows it inside out.that could go and watch players playing with their clubs on .SATURDAYS and sundays, maybe peter jones of kinsale a very experienced guy, or revert back to minty fitgerald who did a great job.just two off my head.
You should put that in writing shetland ;-)
Lads, been reading all the comments and yes, we all know the AUL team set up and organisation leave a lot to be desired. Ola, you are defending well and battling your corner as one involved would have to do but you must see all the flaws as the rest of us do. For the AUL to win the oscar again we would need a strong manager with great diplomatic skills who got the full backing from all clubs AND total commitment from the players selected. Cant see this scenario any YEAR soon, can you? Unless someone comes up with something radical we will be reading all the same comments again in 12months time!
ps. Hope we do a job on the "aristocrats" from the munster super, sorry senior league wed.
So Shetland as someone with 32 years of experience of AUL football (thats longer than i've been on this planet by the way!!) why dont you put your name forward - As far as i can see you should either do something about it or be quiet - you're like a BROKEN RECORD
Ola, i really think you lose a bit of your logic when Shetland puts up a post and just fly back at him without clear thought. How can sharpshooter pass clear judgement on the process when he is part of the squad and hoping for selection?? REPERCUSSIONS!!!!!!! Shetland can speak without fear of reprimand.
