    Farewall to Geocities

    Geocities has finally closed down....

Find trusted local service providers for moving, roofing, plumbing, painting, pest control and more, along with expert advice, help and how-tos, tips and recommendations to ensure successful projects.

I remember many LOI websites running off Geocities in the late-90s, including my own Derry City site - which used to reside at:

Latest news coverage, email, free stock quotes, live scores and video are just the beginning. Discover more every day at Yahoo!

Any other old LOI Geocities users out there?

Here's a bit of Geocities history I won't miss. It's where I started too though, so I guess ye should bow heads to Geocities in thanks for Foot.ie.

        Brilliant!

The "Under Construction" signs were one of the first things that popped into my head this morning (along with hit counters and guestbooks), when I read about Geocities closing.

I was guilty of using a few of those animated GIFs myself, back in the day.

That's absolute class, the marquee, the broken image, the background, the BLINK tags, it just couldn't be more accurate!

Not LOI, but I've been using Geocities since I was about 11 (so 8 years now?). I've always outsourced by images to there and I learned HTML there (though my knowledge is still pretty limited). Will be greatly missed by me (especially as I hosted the table and banner images on there for this site and now have to change it on every single page)

i dont think ironic is the word, but its a sad/weird day but also wonderful that an "icon" of the internet age is disappearing from the end of today.

I remember a school project I did back in the day as they say 97/98 and thinking how wonderful it was and trying to figure out what relative and absoloute paths meant The next page I did was a nirvana fan page, im sure i wasn't the only one I remember getting in contact with a girl in america somewhere, georgia i think, who liked my page and i got on rather well with her actually.

Anyway the broken links/images etc was down to YOU, and not understanding relative links, not geocities, it was an error between chair and keyboard.

I wish i could remember that site like dodge can above.
