Haven't seen that yet. Looks good as it well made, the story is a bit mad i'd say, well worth a look though.

Should I watch Kes? Someone in my house got the DVD a while back and it's been sitting there for ages gathering dust. Any good?

It's interesting anyway. I'm not really one for sentimental films.

Get Carter is my favourite English film. Michael Caine is brilliant in it.

Also, Lock Stock and Snatch are two crackers.

The Ladykillers(the original) is marvellous with a great turn by Alec Guinness.

For something gritty make sure you get a copy of The Hill, with Sean Connery, giving the most credible performance of his career. Its about a milatary prison during the second World War, and features a very convincing sadistic prison officer called Williams who seems to find cruelty to the inmates an enjoyable pasttime.

I would recommend Brighton Rock with Richard Attenborough and I think William Hartnell (1st Dr Who) - gritty b/w small town crook drama

Yeah, definitely a window into how society was back then (not all the long ago either when you think about it). Its not Hollywood and doesn't have one special effect, i suppose you'd describe it as a low budget simply because they didn't have to spend a fortune. Its all about the story and i would be saying 'its a must see' film. If its there then yeah, definitely watch it.

the scene where the PE Teacher thinks he is Bobby Charlton is an absolute classic
