He did ply his trade in the lower leagues for a while (even into non-league football at one stage) before Keegan brought him to Fulham, then won promotions to the 1st division and the premiership with them to gain international recognition

To be honest I don't know how much better Holland is able to look after himself. Miller is light years ahead of Holland when it comes to use of the ball, granted he is a wimp, but I think a few games beside Roy could sort that out.

Just been checking on this football index

and I noticed Matt Holland in it for the first time,
(I think he just crept into it this week).

I also notice Roy Keane is on the up (highest level
I can remember for him since I started following the index).

Duff also continues to rise, he is up to eighth now although
I was surprised to see Robben drop down a bit (did he miss
a game recently?) he is just one above Roy Keane at 32.

Robben done very little in the 3 league games before the Pompey game. Duff continues to rise because he does a lot defensively. He'll be ahead of Graveson this weekend too.

              Matty Holland

I just thought about this over the last couple of weeks but would there be any chance of Matthew Holland being persuaded out of retirement by Staunton. I'd fit him straight into the midfield beside Carsley for the Croker matches (presuming Andy Reid will be out injured).

Although the current state of the Charlton team being in the relegation zone and probably on their way down, Holland has impressed me in the last couple of months. But is there any way back into the international set up, even just for these 2 games in Crokker?

Well looking on yesterdays prformance and those over the last couple of weeks id have Holland in ahead of Ireland. Ireland was extremly poor yesterday and i really feel he isnt ready yet for international football yet.

So unless all those in front of him get injured... no chance.

I'd still pick Holland ahead of Douglas btw.

                  O'Shea?? Get a grip.

With Andy Reid in the center, Slovakia will tear us apart. Holland is at least as good (and more consistant) than Carsley. John O'Shea, Miller and O'Brien thats bordering on retarded. And Steven Reid is crocked.

I also think he should be called up alongside Carsley, however, I don't see it happening in a million years.

I don't think you can really compare Holland and Ireland, they fill different roles at their clubs, Holland and Barton would be more apt, or Ireland and Andy Reid.

No way would I take Holland back.

We have to win these games right? And a midfield with Carsley and Holland will do that? My hole it would. Two of the most defensively minded centre midfielders in the premiership. They actually make Neil lennon look like a dynamic creative flair player.

I'd take my chances with Ireland in there.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

Exactly, zero creative ability. Ireland has 2 goals in 3 games and so far has looked like our only option other than Andy Reid who can be creative and unlock a defence with a killer ball. He's still got a bit to go as he's young but I think he's going to be a huge player for us in the future.

                              I really do wonder sometimes.

Ah lads I know we're struggling at the moment but this is just being silly...

There is no way I'd have "The Invisible Man" anywhere near the Irish setup, no matter how bad we are!!!
