I think it's could by Myler, i also heard Paul Byrne is about a month away from full fitness if all goes to plan for him. There was some english club's in for Dicker as well I heard, UCD will find it hard to hold onto him and Quigley this year.

I wasn't at the match so can't make any comments on the performance but I think it's a little premature to be worrying about the team after one friendly. Monaghan had played a few friendlies already so were always going to be more match fit and sharp.
Hmm. He hasn't been great for Longford since he went there. He did well in Drogheda though so hopefully he could recreate that form again. We are a bit desperate too I suppose.Originally posted by thegitI think it's could by Myler
I presume there'd be decent money due in compensation though. There was some english clubs in for Dicker as well I heard, UCD will find it hard to hold onto him and Quigley this year. We're not arrogant, we're just better. -
Brilliant. He's still the coolest player to have played in Belfield.Originally posted by thegitI think it's could by Myler
They're on 2 year contracts aren't they? And still under 23 so we should get a good few bob if either go.Originally posted by thegitThere was some english club's in for Dicker as well I heard, UCD will find it hard to hold onto him and Quigley this year.Comment

I know but who do you replace them with ?
Thats the thing with UCD they get good young players because they play
them, whens the last time they had a big signing ? It's a shame really because with the likes of Quigley, Hurley, Dicker, Kenna and Byrne as well as some of the more experienced players they have, and 2 or 3 more good signings they could really have a team thats challenging.Comment

Yeah, they're entering the second year of a two-year contract. We seem to have changed to two-year contracts lately, which is good. I've heard Tranmere were sniffing around for one.Originally posted by Student MulletThey're on 2 year contracts aren't they? And still under 23 so we should get a good few bob if either go.
I wouldn't be too downhearted about players leaving for English clubs - there's not much we can do, and it's great publicity for what a spell at UCD can do for your career. I suppose as long as we can keep finding players like Quigley, Dicker, Hurley, Finn, etc. - and we've been getting them with much more regularity than ever before of late, I think - we'll continue to punch above our weight. Then there's the U-21s - champions twice in a row - and players like Jimmy Lee Matthews signing from England...
Still, badly need a forward. Wouldn't want to be relying too much on Paul Byrne for next season purely on the basis of nine games!Comment

Can I take credit for this after my fanzine article a couple of years ago?Originally posted by pineapple stuWe seem to have changed to two-year contracts lately
Charlton, wow!In today's Sun there's a piece about Charlton looking at Gary Dicker. Pete Mahon say's he going no where until the end of the season in the interview which is great for UCD but Would it not be better to sell him before his contract runs out?
I don't know if we'd lose out on much money by holding on to him until the end of his contract as we'll still be due compensation because he'll still be under 23.We're not arrogant, we're just better.Comment

I think it's better for both the club and Gary that he stays until the end of the season. His development will fare better playing first team games here than English reserve football. He's even managed to tie down a place in the national setup playing for UCD. Let us just hope that he gets some competitive U-21 caps so we have a good arguing point in any tribunal. Cherry Orchard will also be due some of the fee.Comment

I don't know too much about the ins and outs of it but I'd imagine buying out the contract is just a matter of them making an offer. If it's substantially above what we'd get in compensation, it might be too good to turn down. Otherwise having a premiership standard playerOriginally posted by thegityeah but surely theres a difference between someone buying out a contract and just getting compensation.
in the team for a year would probably be worth more than the difference. Don't forget the pretty small fees that Kevin Doyle and Wes Hoolahan went to Britain for, we're not going to be offered 500k or anything close.

I think it will be a long time before any Eircom team get 500k for a player, and I doubt the offer will be to good to turn down. The clubs should be looking at what they can get at the back end of the deal. Like selling on and full international call ups and such!Comment

Exactly so we may as well hold onto him for another year as the amount of money due won't be much less.Originally posted by thegitI think it will be a long time before any Eircom team get 500k for a player, and I doubt the offer will be to good to turn down.
That's a good point. Is it possible to add these on to a compensation package? The clubs should be looking at what they can get at the back end of the deal. Like selling on and full international call ups and such!
Am I right in thinking that we'd be due some portion of any future sales in the same way as schoolboy clubs are? We're not arrogant, we're just better.Comment

To the best of my knowledge anyone who is deemed to have had a hand in developing the player and invested some time and money into him is due a portion of any future sale. I think Crumlin Utd. get a piece of every Robbie Keane sale. Maybe someone can put up the official guidlines on this?Originally posted by SchumiExactly so we may as well hold onto him for another year as the amount of money due won't be much less.

I'm not to sure, I think maybe you might get something on the first sale after that it would end I think ?
No poor student I'm a St Pat's fan, I have to say though I do like UCD and it would be a shame to see them break up if this new league thing happens.
Without UCD players like Dicker Quigley Byrne and such would be warming the bench for the likes of Shels.Comment
