I think 'An Absolute Disgrace', Mr O'Toole has something to do with it alright, are you complaining ? Heard a certain young McCourt from Derry talking with a slight Corkie twang tonight too, whats that all about ??? (He was among the Cork fans)

Hey Housty Biy, What are you talking about, like?:p

And sure you spent enough time down here in your day too...lol!

My son made the point that it was great to have George Hamilton commentating as even bar stoolers would recognise him and it gives a crediblity to the show that they are getting their most famous football voices working on it.
I notice Hamilton commentates on the whole game and they edit the clips afterwards while Stephen Alkin and others add the commentating after they've edited. Is it the choice of the commentator?

I really enjoyed the feature by Tony O'Donoghue on the Ramblers-City game. Can tell RTE went to a bit of trouble to get all the angles. It gave a good feel for LOI football with good crowd.

reminded me a little of the features they do on the Championship on a sunday morning. really good to watch.

It was impressive that they had Cousins on, but given they have showed themselves capable of asking awkward questions in the past they gave him a very easy time and didn't bother trying to understand why the decision had been made.

I also thought the panel was weaker than previous weeks, Rico, Roddy and even Connor are better than the guys on last night, who weren't as entertaining.

pete

The panel were obviously biased towards Cousins.
I think his sacking was justified.

He was sitting right next to him. Unsurprisingly that affect their comments.

The Cork City fans wern't happy after the game.....where they???:D
Jeez the bald fella was like a dog and the woman they interviewed was on the verge of crying. Although she was quite offensive toward Ramblers. By saying that City should be taking three points off us. (Thats not how local derbies work be it in Cobh, Manchester, Glasgow or Dublin. No one is guaranteed 3 points in a derby...........ever)

Shock! Stop the presses! Football fans disappointed with result! We hoped we would win but were expecting a better performance.
You got your point at home so try to enjoy it without making every thread about Ramblers.

You were never going to get an exact answer as he probably doesn't know himself. Certain members wanted him out for one reason or another, others wanted him to stay. The pressure from those that wanted him gone obviously strengthened after a poor start.

I thought it was good again and great that they had Cousins on for the breaking news but as Mr A has said they didn't ask him any tough questions, like why didn't you base yourself in Galway etc.

Perhaps the panel didn't realise this but it seems crazy that a manager of a full-time club is not attending every training session.

I'd agree that maybe there should be more highlights - though I thought they found more highlights than there actually were of UCD v Sligo!

The reporters such as Alkin, John Kenny, Tony O'D etc. spend the match doing the radio match commentary for Friday Sportsnight - so naturally that takes up the time (sticking a radio commentary over the top of actual footage imo wouldn't work at all).

So they have to go back and re-report as it were post match

As for Raiders of The Last Archive, did I miss something or do they not highlight the context of the feature (year, competition, significance etc)?

Year: 1998 (May 01)
Competition: League of Ireland Premier Division
Significance: :D

I'm only sorry Rico wasn't on the couch to watch it :)

Bray-Pats seemed to be the featured game so they sent Hamilton to the Carlisle Grounds to commentate live. I counted 7 cameras at the game, which I think were

4 RTE
1 Bray
1 Pats
1 TV3

Special credit to TV3, who I had assumed would go into a bit of a huff now they no longer have the highlights. On Friday's Sports Tonight they announce at the start of the show that TV3 is the only place you will see LOI goals this weekend. Good to see. Also encouraging that RTE don't try to ignore the Setanta - all very mature and respectful which hasn't always been the case in the past.

Ye're manager said he'd have taken a point before the game so I think City fans are entitled to be disappointed not to beat ye without being described as "offensive".

I never actually thought of that before. I have been holding such commentary in unduly low esteem.

Easy to see he's not at the Carlisle very often though, as he felt it necessary to ponit out that it was bitterly cold!

Just watching it now on the internet. Another reason it's an excellent show.

Excellent show in fairness!
Full credit to RTE, we have all been quick enough to criticise them in the past so credit where credit is due.
Quality show.
That Gartland is a funny f ucker, even if he does play for Drogheda!

Just watched it there at lunch - cracking show, albeit short on coverage of the first - that might change if it takes off. I really hope that the viewing figures are good, otherwise it might get shunted or reduced. It actually does fill the hour well and I don't find myself drifting off during it, like happened watching videos of ELW, regardless of when I watched them.

Panel wasn't great last night - it is starting to look like you really do need either Rico, Roddy or Connor. That said, Gartland would also be a welcome addition based on the 60 second thing.

And, despite living in Foreign, I get to see good coverage of the league, some intelligent analysis, and at my leisure, thanks to the internet. Actually, that was never the case in any of the above when I lived in Ireland, so better again.

Thank God the days of being thankful for at least having ELW are gone. Forza MNS!

Anyone working with RTE, just tell them to send cash to the usual address.

what team does liam mackey follow?

Based on the show, it would appear that Liam Mackey follows Tony Cousins...

They used to be published on the RTE Guide. But I haven't had one of them in a long while so I don't know if they still do them.

Noticed that myself. The "present" tense is much more enjoyable/exciting then the roundup summery style commentary. It gives it a greater significance somehow aswell...

Aertel only displays the top 10 & long delay.

You can get the latest top 20 shows on the medialive (http://www.medialive2.com/) website with few days delay.

I add the numbers to this thread (http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=84491) if I remember to check. This season no LOI matches have made the top 20 so I can only tell that they lower than 20th place.

In recent years the highest rated LOI games was Cork City v Derry City title decider which was 4th highest on Network 2 for Nov 2005 at 266k although reports at the time said peaked at 330k.

Seem to remember reading the Pats/Bohs cup semi in 2003 had a huge figure too. The game that finished 4-3

It was replay (9th October) & one of best FAI games I can remember. Figures show 133k average viewers so does not show the peak.

I noticed that the Premiership is 200k+ for October 2003 when it usually 120-130k these days. Not many big clubs play at 3pm on Saturday too often.

They showed in the good, bad and ugly, didn't realise how bad it was at the game, as I was at the other end of the ground, it was a shocker alright.

Fahey without a doubt goal of the month.

Ya very good show. Fahey is a shoe in for GOTM. Think the 60seconds is wearing thin at this stage but they probably have recorded all the players in and around the pale at this stage so they wont be getting rid of it soon. The least they could do is vary the questions.
