I'd also be interested to know what was the difficulty with the two kits brought to the ground by the local Junior Club.

Me too, afaik, Lissadell wear an all yellow strip and the second kit is blue and yellow.

FFS, what if they had to play another team in yellow? You wouldn't even see this in Junior football.

Thats the same jersey, with the now defunct Smart replaced with Paddy Power

And the sleeves still aren't white

If the example above, pats were totally in the wrong in Galway and got fined.

The referee and the League must take responsibility.

Rovers white strip was cleared for the game by the league, why should they bring a second jersey?

Similar "colour clashes" occur in other top leagues and the game goes ahead.

The ref is to blame here in my view, fair and square. Can anyone confirm that it was Buttimer who was in charge when this happened last year at Bohs/Waterford and Cork/Bray ? Also is it true that the kits were approved earlier in the week by the FAI ? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then Mr Buttimer should never referee another game of football in this country. The FAI must also take their share of blame. After last year the onus was on them to put procedures in place to ensure that htis doesn't happen.

I'm sure I remember Pats playing teams with all white shirts before and there was never a problem. It should never have been an issue.

PS - Is it true that Buttimer is auditioning for the role of new presenter on "What Not To Wear" ?

Absolutely spot on Tony.

Anthony Buttimer should get a good kick in the b**lls for this - he has been at the centre of every gear problem in this league for the last two years.

The clubs submitted their kits to the FAI, they were approved in writing by the league office - the FAI even amended the rules and participation agreement this year to counteract Buttimergate! Clubs even had to submit their goalkeeper colours for approval.

I think this smacks of just one thing - Buttimer wants to be the centre of attention all the time!

Send him off down to the Munster AUL! Although they probably wouldn't want him either! :)

Why do the league give clearance for a jersey in the first place then?

Why don't they take all responsibility off themselves and just allow the clubs to battle it out just like what happened on Friday night?

Begining to think Pat's stubbornness was to do with the fact a huge amount of fans wouldn't have been in Richmond in time for a 19:45 k/o due to their joke of a ticketing system and they refused to change jersies to delay it to ensure they didn't miss k/o.

only to ensure the sponsors are in line with eircom league sponsors and that they are aware of any potential conflict in colours however the referree has the final say on match day and every club knows this, also this is the kind of thing that has made the league a laughing stock for twenty years so althought i agree buttimer is a asre so to is the clubs for letting this happen

A new twist to the colours clash last Friday.
Some professor from Plymouth has just been on the Ray D’Arcy Show who has completed an extensive research project on English Football over the past fifty years or so and his findings prove conclusively that teams wearing RED win more matches than teams wearing other colours such as blue. It is quite obvious that Brian Kerr has spent the entire close season studying this report and he insisted on St. Pat’s wearing their Red jersey’s and further proof – if it were needed – that the Dublin Clubs get preferential treatment over the country clubs.

A study was done years ago on the same subject, but worldwide, and it found that teams that wore YELLOW won more often than anyone else. Don't know if that's the same one as was in FourFourTwo.

Just out of curiousity, in what year did Pats adopt white sleeves on their shirts? I can remember them wearing solid red, or at least predominantly red (certainly red sleeves) jerseys up until the mid 90s.

Armando

I haven't read all of this thread(first 5 pages so far), but I'm totally confused as to what was wrong with both teams original gear?

Apparently, it was because both teams sleeves were white.....so ****ing what!!!
In the biggest league on the planet every season the north London derby is played between Arsenal and Spurs...and guess what Spurs jersey is all white and Arsenals is red with white sleeves.

So tell me again what exactly was the problem?....Oh yeah, the ref is a complete ****ing moron!

Also, poor from by Pats not agreeing to change to their away. I know the rules back them up, but for christ sake just get on with it, no need to be trying to get the walkover - pathetic all around.

Lasstly T O'D made a salient point on Mondays show: while all this nonsense was going on none of the fools out on the pitch(ref/players/club officials) could be bothered to care about the fans, who have to wait around while the mess unfolds.

This is John McDonnell, the king of pathetic. People have been slagging Barry Ryan for years about his conviction, and he's learned to laugh at it. He clapped us after we beat them at the Cross; til McDonnell comes racing across the park to "comfort" him and make angry gestures at the crowd. Talks entirely about our little chant after the game, in the hope of diverting attention away from the wheels coming off his title challenge, fully aware that Rovers had recently been in the news for some chanting of their own.

Have to agree about the fans - bloody disgrace.
However the rules are quite clear but in typical FAI Fashion contradict themselves.....

1. In event of clash away team must change
2. If clash cannot be resolved then home team must change!
3. Referee's decision is final!

At the end of the day (or should that be night!) St Pat's were obliged to change and they refused so expect a hefty fine a la Cork last year!

I know Waterford were fined last year over the jersey clash with Bohs who happened to bring a Blue(????) away kit! They procured a kit that was completely different but Bohs wouldn't wear it cos it was like the Rovers kit.But the fine apparently was for not starting the game on time! However the dispute was resolved in time and the referee (yes, A Buttimer!) put back the game to 8.15 so he could warm up again!

Unbelieveable!

They don't contradict themselves at all (although your opening sentence does ;))

If both teams' home jerseys clash, the away team changes.

If there is still a clash, the home team changes too.

Simple.

Kildareman
13/03/2008, 12:50 PM
Kilkenny City v Kildare County last season had a similar problem. The sleeves on both sets of Kildare kits clashed with both sets of Kilkenny kits ( all were black) so Kilkenny had to wear their U21 teams kit( all blue).
Ironically Kilkenny were then fined for not having the Eircom logo on the sleeve!!!!!!

Whatever about the rules, Pats should have changed to the away jerseys. There was a good attendance last Friday night. Some of those may not have been at a match in a long time and this sort of shambles won't encourage them back soon. Sometimes it takes bigger men to stand up and do what's sensible in the bigger picture rather than take the "it's my ball and you're not playing with it" approach.

For the last game of the 2006 season, Longford agreed to wear their blue and yellow away kit for their home game against Pats so that Pats could wear their then new Patselona kit for a match before wearing it in the Cup Final. It was a request in advance by John McDonnell and Alan Matthew had no problem with it.

I think pats not having a "current" away jersey must've had something to do with it. The jersey worn by Sligo was our away kit 2 years ago with a PP logo stuck over it

The patselona kit is gone
