I'd say Buttimer was raging last night when Bray turned up with an all navy third strip and he couldn't find any clash of colours whatsoever :)

He did however find something to be pedantic about. When Tadg Purcell was coming on as a sub he was wearing black leggings under his shorts. Buttimer made him take the leggings off before coming on. Purcell had to strip to his underwear on the side of the pitch before being let play.

I wonder why Buttimer didn't ask Bray sub Onwubiko to paint his legs white before coming on considering his legs were every bit as black as Purcell's leggings.

Presumably because Buttimer didn't realise that black and navy don't go!

The ref has jurisdiction on everything the player wears, e.g. jewelery, tape on socks, face masks, etc. Every player is supposed to be inspected but for practical purposes that rule just gets a cursory nod with substitutes' studs.

Taste and decency I think.

Can't understand how Robbie Doyle is allowed take to the pitch like this (http://photos5.pix.ie/A3/6B/A36B17CF6A66463FA7F17FA663B71B95.jpg)? Let alone why he would want to!

Eh, because he has a knee modeling contract and cold knees don't sell my friend. This is Robbie Doyle we're talking about here. The man has a weave in his hair ffs :D

Matt Gregg had to wear Harps' keeper's jersey on Friday night. Missed a good bit of teh warm up sorting the matter out. This despite that we usually travel with four keeper's jerseys, and that RTÉ were saying that the outfield jerseys were virtually indistinguishable on the telly.

If it weren't for the fact that we're obviously much better run under the FAI, I'd be beginning to seriously wonder about the sanity of officials in this league.

yes there are - in the Laws of the Game it states under Law 4 - Player's Equipment:

Basic Equipment
The basic compulsory equipment of a player comprises the following separate items:
• a jersey or shirt – if undergarments are worn, the colour of the sleeve should be the same main colour as the sleeve of the jersey or shirt.
• shorts – if undershorts are worn, they are of the same main colour as the shorts
• socks
• shinguards
• footwear

Good stuff. I was a little worried that the "thermal midfielders" at Pats might be breaking some regulation and another fine was on its way.

Also, one of the strikers for Fingal had different coloured socks compared to the rest of his team mates.

Disgraceful.

UCD players share the one sock.

Good balanced piece (as always) from Mr. De Salvo.

Yes, it's very well put.

The irony being, of course, that if any individual club website were to reproduce such an article, they'd be heavily fined.

did anyone else think that the jersey colours in harps v ucd clashed???
i wonder are the refs afraid to say anything now with all the hype about this topic???

where was buttimer when you want him, oh yeah he took a chance bray would turn up with green and white v rovers...

also imo the bohs keepers jersey is too similar to outfield jersey - both dark and under **** lights its hard to tell the difference.

Don't confuse hype with internet chatter

In fairness, they looked far, far more similar on the TV coverage than they actually did on the night.
