heh heh. I just can't wait to hear you and Lim til i die arguing on Saturday :D

It's going to be crazy. I'm not going to talk at all for the next few days, rest the vocal chords so that I can unleash them with all my venomous fury on Saturday. We'll need you to be at your refereeing best. :D

No don't worry, if I do start arguing when I'm drunk, rarely happens, I usually stop pretty quickly as I realise my argument is bs or the other person is immovable. I can usually tell one or the other within thirty seconds.

I like that opposite ends idea though, let the tension build as we eye-ball each other to death. I can tell you I won't be backing down, no matter if I ruin everyone's night. I'm more important, and that's final.

I already gave you a round of applause for coming around to agreement with my point

A point you missed and argued with in the first place!!!

So now that we've found that common ground

 :D

Come back to me after you've had an objective look at the last few pages.

Specifically, look at my first post this morning. Then tell me how we've found the common ground. You made absolutely no comment on my culture/development point as a part explanation for why men or women fall into certain industries!!! So how could we have possibly found the common ground when you can't even acknowledge where I'm standing??

Oh and I never argued with your point at all. I just said it was too simplistic a way of explaining things for my liking. Which it still is. :)

Lol, I'll make it my business then to have this issue resolved by Saturday! To leave time for what is truly important, slagging Bluebeard for his Longford Town gaffe! I'm very much like soccerc, it'll be all love, peace and happiness as far as I'm concerned, with an appropriate splash of shenanigans and tomfoolery thrown in here and there.

You'll never make it as a lawyer with an attitude like that!

:D Very true. Maybe I'm not cut out for it. Though I'm sure the fine art of mendacity will be beaten into me in lawyer school! It's funny though, if my posts here are anything to go by, presumably they are, then I tend to look for mutual satisfaction as against staunch protection of my views. Must mean I'll be an arbitrator/mediator type lawyer and not a criminal one.

Actually, I've had a change of heart of late, or daily vacillation more like, and am leaning more towards a career in the foreign service as a path towards ultimately ending up as President of this fair country. I'd love to work in the Irish Embassy in say Buenos Aires for a few years. Must look into it.

Kev, like LTID, you've missed my point by picking out an isolated comment instead of looking at my general point. (curiously though you won't see me lobbing sarky similies and red-faced men at you)

I clearly said in my most recent post that I saw stereotyping as a major problem in this discussion, as a barrier to letting each individual find their right career path.

While in general I tend to enjoy your posts, they are sometimes long winded and admittedly I didnt read the entire thing on this occassion.

However the statement I quoted, which you made, is sexist, and I make no apolgies for pointing it out. It kind of flies in the face of the general point you were making.

As for the smilies, I like to use them, some people dont, does it really matter ? :)

Nice, I've liked your posts too. But yeah that long-windedness is something that needs curbing. I generally, as I'm doing now :D, try to explain things as best as possible to get as full a picture as possible, so I don't know what will be forsaken. I also tend to think and type so often new thoughts come into my head as I progress and I don't want to leave them out. I also have a tendency to share my opinions at will so I'm sure you see my problem! Maybe I'll make a little plan of where I'm going first. (this is not a test case)

I appreciate that "men on average would tend to do the job a bit better" seems sexist on first reading if taken out of context. So I would try to acquit myself from such a shameful tag as I said 'on average' (which was intended to rule out those like your sisters) and the 'do it better' thing is because I was probably thinking that as the sector is male dominated it should mean that men are more suited/attracted to it for whatever reasons, and if they are suited to it then they should do the job better. Sorry for any confusion.

As for smilies, fire away, I was probably just feeling sorry for myself that I don't use the negative ones all that much and yet there I was not thinking I did anything wrong but being faced with a barrage of what in truth are only small little faces that shouldn't bother me in the slightest. :)

Come back to me after you've had an objective look at the last few pages.

With your writing style it would take days and I'm an absurdly busy man at the moment

Then tell me how we've found the common ground.

You agree that you cannot judge someones "manliness" or otherwise by their profession.

Which was after all my original point

You made absolutely no comment on my culture/development point as a part explanation for why men or women fall into certain industries!!!

Because it doesn't concern me.

As obvious as the answers may be to anyone with the most basic knowledge of society and physcology I don't care and it is a debate which has faff all to do with my original point which was of course:

that you cannot judge someones "manliness" or otherwise by their profession.

So how could we have possibly found the common ground when you can't even acknowledge where I'm standing??

we found common ground on the bit where I'm arguing:

that you cannot judge someones "manliness" or otherwise by their profession.

Oh and I never argued with your point at all.

Sensible chap

I just said it was too simplistic a way of explaining things for my liking. Which it still is.

I never even tried to explain anything. Merely stated a fact (IMO). This fact being:

that you cannot judge someones "manliness" or otherwise by their profession.

Anything else has merely been you (with great gusto to give you your due) arguing amongst yourself :)

You agree that you cannot judge someones "manliness" or otherwise by their profession.

I never fully agreed with that actually. It implies that you can judge someone's manliness in the first place. Thus, your point is nebulous and incomplete. Which I said at the outset, and sought to investigate. Unfortunately you were happy to stick with your narrow view. This lead to you calling some of my comments sexist, as you couldn't understand what I was saying without a broader perspective. Now, I think I'll take MY ball and go play somewhere else. :D

:D Wait, wait. YOU think you can complain about someone's style?? !

Yep.

I never fully agreed with that actually.

Oh right.

Applause withdrawn

Thus, your point is nebulous and incomplete.

For your purposes perhaps but then I never set out to sate whatever inner need you have for answers to whatever inner question you have.

Which I said at the outset, and sought to investigate.

Here's what you said at the outset:

And what's your argument?

Smartasses are great, if they have an answer.

Inadvertently I think you found the answer, but were probably revelling in your bravura too much to notice. The job of a repo-man is one thoroughly unsuitable to all but the most manly of women. For example, can you imagine some lass coming to the door of a burly lumberjack telling him she must take away his chainsaw cos he's defaulted on the hire purchase payments?

How could you think chasing random people, not knowing what could be in store, trying to prise their prized possessions off them, does not require brave and intimidating attributes usually the preserve of men?

I hope you open a business some day. You'll get great custom from me. No money, but your stock turnover figures will be best in class. WTF, if someone doesn't pay up after numerous warnings nothing should happen? Wonderful logic. Are prison guards 'a special kind of scumbag' for not releasing prisoners?

Before setting off on your own little diatrabe about something I had no concern with to start with although to give you your due you were man enough to say:

I'd asked for your opinion - which turned out to be a good one.

And:

The point is that obviously the mere fact of having a certain job doesn't inherently make one person more manly than another, or allow you to automatically state without knowing the people, 'oh a builder, now he's a proper man compared to a doctor'.

So fairplay

Unfortunately you were happy to stick with your narrow view.

I was happy to make my point which was:

that you cannot judge someones "manliness" or otherwise by their profession.

A point on which I'm sure I would find broad agreement and which is therefore pretty self explanatory in my opinion

This lead to you calling some of my comments sexist

This comment here in your first post on the issue:

How could you think chasing random people, not knowing what could be in store, trying to prise their prized possessions off them, does not require brave and intimidating attributes usually the preserve of men?

Is sexist.

Get over it.

There was no context in your first post just you pitching down on the wrong side of the argument, a position you have been backtracking from ever since by moving the argument over into territory which never concerned me to begin with.

More power to you btw, it's quite amusing when scanned

as you couldn't understand what I was saying without a broader perspective.

LMFAO.

On an aside, if some people maybe couldn't understand you, could this per chance go down as a criticism of your pulitzer prize like style and maybe something you could look at to ensure future glory???

Now, I think I'll take MY ball and go play somewhere else.

You do that, the game finished long ago anyway

*tempestuously scuttles off crying*
