How important could that result turn out to be.

I was tuned in to Radio Sheffied for (completely unbiased) commentary. The obligatory early goal conceded and I had a rotten feeling. The missed penalty, oh god, now feeling a bit sick.
The worst thing was that the commentators, who normally try to give any sort of positive spin that they can, were even more dejected than they had been during the Blackpool game last week. The words "clueless", "disorganised" and "another mistake" were used alot and I'm thinking, well I hope Leeds and Forest dont come up because they'd be 2 good games to go over for next season.

Then very late in the first half we scrambled away another of the all too frequent Leicester attack and seconds later it was up the other end and in the net. Life in the old dog yet?

Second half we sounded much more lively and within 9 or 10 minutes were ahead. Nervous times in my living room until the unlikely hero Clarke in plenty of space (offside??) calmly lobbed the outrushing keeper. I leap up off the couch - laptop goes sailing through the air; **** I better catch that... duly caught and placed carefully on coffee table - and start leaping around. :D

Given ourselves a fighting chance of beating the drop with a result on Sunday. Should be a big crowd too, can't wait...

The final game against Norwich is a sell out !! There will be more at the game than watched Chelsea vs Liverpool last night. I hadn't ordered my tickets until yesterday and find it is sold out. So I rang Norwich and we are in among Delia Smith's supporters.

I look forward to the game with dread (if that isn't a contradiction in terms). I can see Leicester getting a draw at Stoke and Southampton winning their last game which means Wednesday must at least get a draw. It will be a tense afternoon.

I'd say Leicester myself, given they're away to Premiership-chasing Stoke.

Apologies. I'll get onto my goons to call off the search now. If any dodgy looking character threateningly approaches you just explain the misunderstanding. Use simple English though, they're foreign, and a little thick. :p

soccer extra is fantastic today, le tissier is hilarious. Great news for owls fans, they've done very well today to be fair. Leicester game is brutal, id say the southampton one would have been a great game to watch. Id fancy palace for playoffs especiall after the drubbing today of burnley.

Le Tissier:"saints have 11 men in their box for the last 5 mins"
Jeff:"thats strange since their down to ten for the last twenty minutes"
Priceless.

Good God the horror I felt when Norwich went 1up, still it was a great win in the end and of I had to pick one of the other teams to go down that wasn't Blackpool it would have been Leicester. Still onwards and upwards for next year, although I do think a change of manager might be needed

Crazy that we ended up finishing 16th as well, a friend of mine once referred to the Championshop as the Nascar of football, everyone has the same engine, it's all about the drivers and luck, I'd go along with that to be honest

Blessed not to be 2 or 3 down at half time. With Leicester drawing and Soton winning, Wednesday had to get a draw minimum. Was seated among the Norwich fans and they were enjoying it too much when they went ahead. Fortuitous peno for Owls and all went well after that. Great game. Great atmosphere. Pity I couldn't enjoy it too much but wife had her picture taken with Delia Smith so she was thrilled.

Hornets pip Wolves to play off place by one goal  What a division.

Holloways a legend, i think hes a breath of fresh air, i think though he gets jobs based more on personality humour and meida attention, than tactical awareness

this legend term gets thrown around a lot. I agree he's not bland like so many other professionals, but he made a big boo-boo leaving Plymouth, he could have got them into the play-offs.
Agreed re tactics, can't say he's anything to go mad about.

Holloways a legend

Legendary quotes does not a legend make! After courting Leicester while still at QPR and then jumping from the high-flying Plymouth plane, I've no sympathy for him plummeting down to League 1 - despite the fact he brought QPR up off their heels, turning the club around from near-extinction and bringing us back to the Championship. No, no I don't like rats!

Coincidentally, and staggeringly, Gigi de Canio left QPR yesterday by the usual, evasive "mutual consent" method. Apparently he has a few issues in Italy to sort out (da died recently for one thing). Naturally, loads of rumours going 'round - Zidane mentioned at one stage  - but Jol looks the best credible candidate given his family still lives in London. I'm finding it very hard to fathom the changes at the club. 12 months ago I'd have settled for Paul Sturrock, now Jol just about seems adequate! :) :) (ear-to-ear grinning)

If you're not doing anything else for the next two minutes, watch this interview (http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/latest.htm) that a fan had with him outside a pub after the announcement. The bit at the end is very moving! (leave it load and skip to 1.30 in as just lads chatting shyte before that)

Incey wouldn't be too bad, never really took a shine to him though. But the thing is, the owners are really looking to build a profile and add some razzmatazz , pizazz, all that stuff, so I don't think Ince will be the chosen one. Costacurta was rumoured before De Canio took over.....

Is Paolo Maldini retiring this season? :D

I know!! I am not wishing for it myself, but based on form I'm tipping Palace. Hoping to see Hull make it myself.

Warnock was his usual self after the defeat by Bristol City today. Ref, ref, ref and ref. He is pathetic. Please God BC will knock Palace out. Can't stand the man.

Really enjoyed the game between Bristol C and Palace last night and not just because Warnock's team lost but because 2 of the best players on the pitch, Lawrence and Scannel, are potentially Irish senior internationals. Compared to the 2, Clinton looked second rate I am afraid. Lawrence is pushing on a bit but he would have been useful for breaking down teams like San Marino, Cyprus etc Sean now I was very impressed with.

The Division One play off between Carlisle and Leeds was also an excellent game. Petty Kilkenny isn't one of ours as he was excellent but Douglas also did a great job protecting the Leeds back 4. Leeds won it with a last minute goal, one apparently of innumerable last minute goals this season for them.

Nah it's quite numerable ...something like 18 I believe. Genuinely felt sorry, and no small amount of admiration, for the Carlisle boss when he turned to Gary Mac and shook his hand straight after the second goal went in.

Whether or not Leeds make it over the final hurdle on Sunday they deserve huge credit ...though there's not a bank in the world that'll agree with me. :D

Well done to Hull City. Funny Dean Windass scoring the winner that gets them there since I doubt if he'll get a game in the Premiership.

Surprised to see Leeds lost the play off game in the 1st division. First time for Doncaster to make the Championship for 80 years.

Sorry to see him go. Thought he had another season in him at least. In the first couple of months of last season he was the best player in the division at a canter. Which in itself is telling I think. Maybe he's just frustrated with the injuries and the amount of time he's likely to spend in a treatment room rather than on the pitch.

From a Wednesday point of view I am glad Leeds didn't get promoted. One less powerful club in the Championship next year. Should be an interesting year with no apparent favourite for promotion unlike the season just gone where WBA were always a dead cert.

Did you see the Watford vs Ipswich game? Good game and John Joe O'Toole looked very promising when he came on. Not great at the post match interviews though :D.

Nice to see Wolves doing well (their win over the Owls aside). Open Championship although I expect Birmingham will win it.

Yeah I was at the game. Until JJ came on we looked v.poor.He as come on strong the last couple of games, after being shunned by Boothroyd for returning lardy after the Summer break, having got too big for his boots!

He has learnt his lesson and certainly seems the better for it.

Were you at the game? Pi** poor crowd of 17k. Watford were a bogey team. Hadn't beaten them for quite a while so surprised and delighted with the 3 pts. Getting a nose bleed now Wednesday are so high up the table but with the next two games away to Norwich and Reading that won't last long.

Wednesday concede 6, 5 scored by Irishmen. Still progress though. 8 more points than at the same stage last year (lost all opening 6 games last season).

Wolves win again (Keogh scored) and Warnock verbally abusing the referee at the end - plus ca change.

Watford losing at home. Must be worrying times at Vicarage Road.

I see Sheffield Wed even lose out to the fans in court.

Price of Free Speech (http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2008/09/17/the-price-of-free-speech/)

Court judgement (http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/QB/2007/2375.html)

I just love how a fans rant is explained in plain court English, especially the napoleon complex.

(vi)The next posting was by a user called "Auckland Owl". It read, so far as relevant:

"If I were Brian Laws I'd walk away from it before the season starts. I wonder how long it took, after getting the job, before he thought to himself "What the absolute fook (sic) have I let myself in for?" The club's best players being given away, endless broken promises and the chairman with the most acute Napoleon complex *allegedly* that I've personally ever seen."
Mr Eardley submitted that this meant that the second Claimant was guilty of mismanagement by getting rid of players, making promises and breaking them, and being an egotist driven by an inferiority complex about his height.
