Houllier is speaking on Thursday and Friday at a coaching conference in Baltimore (US). And he is expected to remain until Saturday at the conference. So the earliest the lads could chat/interview/courtesy call him would be Monday.
Givens is doing a pro license course from Sunday to Monday so looks like no chance to interview Houllier till Thursday week.

In a way these few days here haven't helped," said Givens. "It's delayed it again and then next week I'm in Dublin doing my pro licence from Sunday to Thursday in Malahide and that doesn't help me either. So we're trying to manoeuvre things around.
"We've still got a few to speak to this week and hopefully there will be some movement. However, given that no candidates are likely to come to Dublin to chat, it means that Givens and his partners must get their remaining interviews done in a three day window starting from tomorrow.

ffs! surely hiring an international manager should take priority over him doing his coaching badges!! what a bloody joke!

In fairness he would have had that arranged months before he was appointed on the selection committee. It's the FAI who should get the blame for appointing someone with outside commitments (first the fixtures meeting, now this) although maybe Givens kept it hush as it might have resulted in him not being on the committee.

Or maybe thats why there's three of them. so they can share the work load when one is unavailable the other two can still be actively hunting for the new manager
It won't take all day to talk to Houllier. They could easily arrange an interview regardless of whether Houllier is at a conference or Givens is on a course.

The article states: It's understood that the kingmakers are trying to arrange meetings with Lawrie Sanchez, Billy Davies and Gerard Houllier for later this week

Houllier is the new bookies favourite. There are a lot of Irish and British coaches at the conference in Baltimore. Maybe he has indicated to someone he is interested. He is now 1/3 with PP

The bookies can afford to be stung at 1/3.
A bit of a flutter on Gerard and the odds sink to unbackable.
Is he still at 15/1 on Betfair?

Why is the U-21 coach even involved in this process? What a A%(@#$(@ joke.

He's odds on atm with €80k total staked on him. It was nowhere near 40k yesterday, never mind 80.

€85k according to my betfair (maybe $120k). Still though €5k on him in less than 5 minutes. Something is up.

Giles has said on Newstalk that he would not like Houllier as manager.

tbh Giles' opinion on Houllier or any manager or player means very little to me.
€120k on Houllier now...
Having ran a bookies, 1/3 makes me take notice. Has anyone here been monitoring the market. Has any other candidate gone odds on yet?

Venables and Deschamps in the last week.

I put €20 on Houllier at 40/1 with Paddy Power on the day that Staunton got the sack.

Not so exciting then. Let's see if he goes further.

The stake on Houllier jumped from €128k to €134k in a few seconds so I guess that was a single €6k bet at around 8/13.

Apologies for all the posts but I'm surprised at the lack of activity in this thread atm. The only person to get backed this heavily was Venables when RTE posted a story on their website:
"Venables set to be panel's choice"
I've heard nothing about Houllier and the Ireland job today so it's been kept very hush hush.

Who is making money on this only the bookies. It looks to me like another Deschamp type situation. Houllier is going to be interviewed tonight on Fox soccer so I will see if he has anything to say about the managers job.

The Deschamps rumour spread like wildfire before the odds changed though. Roy Keane even mentioned it before the change in odds. I'd still say there was contact between him and the FAI though.
Houllier now getting backed at the lowest odds since the market opened. 1.44.

It´s entertainment.
What can we say, is it up to 200k yet?
We need SoccerC for the sourced rumours.

Can they resurrect another run on Giles?

Good luck to anyone backing Houllier at 1/3! He couldn't have been interviewed today seeing he's in the States atm, so there can't be any subsatnce to this plunge.
Just another windfall for the bookies.
I still hope I'm wrong but for the last month I think it is between Brady & Tel. Backed Tel myself but was also tempted with Brady at 20s the other day.

Giles who I believe has has a major say in the targeting of candidates suggested this evening that Brady would be a good choice for manager. We already know he likes Venables. So you could be right.

Just out of interest/curiousity, do the interviews/informal chats have to be done face-to-face or can they be done through video conference type calls?
Anyway, Eirebhoy, I'd imagine until we hear something akin to a press conference being called or a pic of the 3 amigos and a candidate in a London hotel then I doubt anyone is going to get worked up over fluctuating odds with PP, its happened that often now.
eirebhoy

Not like that though. Venables was never even backed that heavily in such a short period.

Where did all this betting rumpus come from?
Could be as Noely said that it´s coming from Houllier, maybe he was seen ordering a pint of Guinness in Baltimore and joked that nows as good a time as any to start practicing.
Givens sounded convincing enough when he denied that they were the source of leaks.

I just can't agree with people saying it's the bookies controlling this. No doubt they're making a bit by laying the likes of John Giles but there was about €150k put on Houllier in a few hours today on Betfair (that's over 20% of the total amount of money staked on everyone since Day 1). You're not going to get that much activity just from people seeing his odds cut. About 10 people have had really short odds at one point.

AFAICS on Betfair, Houllier is Evens.
It's a crazy volatile bull ring market there if he was 1/3 an hour ago.

I don't know what the chances are so probably a silly question but could that not be because everyone that knows something has got their money on him already?

If those figures are true, then fair enough it would seem to have a bit more substence than some of the others. Hoping so anyway.

I should have said professional gamblers rather than bookies. This Irish manager market is definetely being manipulated on the exchanges. People are betting emotionally (myself included)a bit like the grand national. And the sharks are pocketing vast sums of money. I will report back later if Houllier says anything about the Ireland job in his interview with Fox soccer. I sent them an email asking them to ask Houllier about his interest in taking the job. The only reply I got back so far was an acknowledgement of email received.

Fox soccer are doing a 2 hour programme starting at 1am Irish time. Houllier is going to be on for about 10 mins sometime in the first hour. Steve McClaren and Roy Millar of the IFA will also be on. I'll be surprised if houllier is not asked about the Ireland job as one of the Fox reporters is Keith Costigan (ex Luton)from Dublin.

Is it possible that it's already been filmed and someone on the crew passed the info on to friends?

Very much so. All filming was done earlier today. That was my initial suspicion when I saw all the money going on Houllier. Its at events like this that people open up . A couple of glasses of vino and Gerard spills the beans!

Houllier might have let it slip that he would really like the Irish job, the FAI would still end up giving it to Venables on twice the salary.

Errrrrrrrr....
What part am I missing here. Do people on here not know venanoballs has the job? Him and Delaney are closer than Stan and Delaney and its not what you know in this world but who you know.
VENNABLES OUT - May as well start it now rather than in a yeas time when hes as pathetic as he was in his previous jobs.
