michaelguineys & btid1 - Don't be taking this thread off topic. If you feel you were treated harshly then take it to the relevant forum. You're certainly not going to get any sympathy after your last couple of posts.

Anyway, it appears Ireland was just doing a Superman impression:

Well considering he wont answer my question through the relevant forum it appears I have no choice.

Still wondering what was so wrong with my post?

Am I not allowed to criticise Stephen Ireland? It was not a personal insult just describing his behaviour!!

This guy's behaviour in the Premiership is the biggest embarassment to Ireland since Roy Keane tried to break a professional footballer's leg saying "take that you cnut!"

....Ireland hasn't harmed anyone physically but what a total Muppet......is there something in the water where these morons grew up

it beggars belief the way this bloke carrys on. I cant remember watching a more gifted passing Irish midfielder since John Sheridan. But what the f**k is his problem-like dropping your pants for no reason-yeah real funny.

And how is our new manager going to resolve this problem? We need Ireland-he's developing into a seriously excellent player but has a rabbit upstairs working the feckin controls:rolleyes:

I can't figure Stephen Ireland out. For a guy who appears to be very sensitive to comments about his new hair he certainly likes to provide good material. On the other hand he may just have the greatest sense of humour....or maybe not...

he's not man enough to come to dublin to play for his country after making a liar out of himself and making idiots out of people that tried to help him. However at man City he thinks he's fookin superman?. Sorry not buying it. Give me Richie Dunne with a pint and a smoke any day. When young Superman is man enough to come and play for Ireland again ,then I'll judge him on his attitude and his performance in the green shirt. I personally would be ashamed if he pulled such a stunt after scoring for his country. These footballers cry about how their jobs are just like everyone else's - and they only have a short time span to make $$ etc, etc. Well if they want to be treated like everyone else, dont drop your fookin shorts in 'the workplace'. For Sven to then come out and say that he hopes the FA dont look into the matter just confirms that the Circus is being run by the freak. Boot in the hole would'nt do him any harm. (stephen ireland that is, not Sven)

Ahhh go back to supporting GAA, now much testosterone do you need in one post. I love this attitude, which is that its alright to **** up but as long as you do it a manly way like have a pint or a cigarette or hit someone, or break their leg or something lke that, but if its a bit girly or silly, they then are a disgrace to the country.

I agree that he should be judged on his peformances for Ireland though which have been bitty at best but he has a knack of scoring goals and a midfield of him the two Reids and Duff could be pretty decent in the future.

I wish I had the GAA over here, I have to settle for Ultimate fighting (not quite as rough as the Wicklow County Championship, but a little more regulated). That just about satisfies my manly cravings. Have to agree with you though, I am more old fashioned. This girly dropping your shorts pose thing doesnt do it. Its almost 'beckham" like behavior.

Anyone know if he was still making himself unavailable for the Wales game due to his troublin' troubles or if Givens just dropped him:confused:

Either way, based on previous man management efforts, I'd say we can expect to see Givens slagging him off in a press conference.

To be fair, the trip from Manchester to Cardiff can be hell for someone going through a difficult time. I think we should just leave him to get on with his Man City career in peace - he clearly doesn't want to draw attention to himself...

...Now THAT's sarcasm!

Givens said he didn't bother talkin to him, Stan and FAI tried and it'll be up to the new manager to decide what they want to do with him.

I have no complaints about Givens when he talked about pride in playing for your country. Givens was quite right to sort of say that 'let the next manager deal with it'.

Saw this on his Wikipedia article...

Since then, Ireland has pulled out of the Republic squad a second time. Rumours have begun circling that Ireland is avoiding the Irish squad due to alleged bullying by teammates. Ireland has supposedly been losing his hair in recent years and is rumoured to have either had a hair transplant or acquired a wig, and this has reportedly led to the player being insulted and severely teased by some of his Irish teammates. This teasing is said to have led to Ireland distancing himself from the rest of the squad and gradually developed into more serious bullying, with one alleged incident involving Ireland being forcibly held down on the dressing room floor for several minutes while teammates pulled out his hair. Ireland is said to be receiving treatment from a psychologist to help him deal with the alleged bullying.

This is really non-news. He celebrated a goal in bizarre fashion. Lots of players do it.

Martins, Lua Lua, et al what's with all the handstands? Are they trying to prove to their ex-PE teacher they can do it? What about Robbie Fowler sniffing the goal line? Or Mauro Camoranesi playing guitar with the corner flag?

Don't even get me started on Robbie Keane's one....

Can someone tell me what exactly is so unaccpetable about this celebration?

I think what we have on our hands here is a slightly troubled yet potentially a brillant player, the latter of which we should be extremely pleased with!! I think the new Irish Manager is going to require Kids gloves when dealing with young Ireland, Sven seems to have a gift for this sort of thing and would reflect in Irelands performance and excellent goal this week, one things for sure the media will love him as I'm sure he'll be a top scope for some time to come and will add, be it good or bad, alot of controversy and character to the Irish Set-up which seems to lack character since a certain other Cork man left the scene..

By Micah Richards
Manchester City and England defender

After all his problems, I was delighted to see Stephen Ireland score Manchester City's winner against Sunderland on Monday.

But it was quite disappointing to hear that people wanted him to be fined for his celebration in his Superman pants.

You have to be so careful nowadays with how you celebrate because it seems that the fun element when celebrating goals is disappearing.

It is not as though he was naked or anything and it was not hurting anyone so I do not really see anything wrong with it.

To be honest, I was supposed to do that celebration with him. We both bought the same pants at the same time!

However, I was not playing so I could not join him - and I am quite pleased now because otherwise I would have got the same stick.

I know Stevie really well, after coming through the ranks with him at City, and his mates here have helped him through his problems, which are well documented.

He lives opposite me - his front door is about five seconds away from mine - and we always help each other out.

I have been out since twisting my knee against Bolton but the good news is that hopefully I will be fit to face Portsmouth on Sunday

Some of the things that have been said about him in the press recently have been ridiculous and, at the end of the day, he is a normal human being.

People are always trying to criticise Stevie but he actually has quite a strong character, so for him still to be putting in good performances for City, with everything he has had to deal with, shows that.

He is a quality player who was always highly rated when he was a youngster at City and is now one of the top players in our first team.

Stevie has so much up his sleeve skill-wise and has a good goalscoring record as well. He is always in the right position.

If you have seen his goal against Sunderland then you can see what good technique he has. Some people would have taken an extra touch and some would have fluffed the volley but, from the way he took it, you can tell he is a special player.

It was frustrating for me to miss that game through injury. I watched it from my box at Eastlands and I was kicking every ball - like any player I just wanted to be out there.

I went down to the changing room afterwards just to congratulate everybody because it was not an easy game.

Sunderland work hard and have some good players. It was never going to be a walkover so it was a good three points to get.

We did not play well and people may say we are riding our luck at the moment but we are not third for no reason.

606: DEBATE
Give your reaction to Micah's column

It was good to bounce back from losing 6-0 to Chelsea by beating Bolton in the Carling Cup and then to get another home Premier League win was important.

I have been out since twisting my knee against Bolton but the good news is that hopefully I will be fit to face Portsmouth on Sunday.

At the time my knee felt really painful but a couple of days later it was a lot better. It was only bruising and I should be back in training on Thursday.

Portsmouth will be a tough challenge because, even when they were not doing so well in the league, going there is always a hard game and they are currently fifth in the Premier League.

We have won seven out of seven in the league at home but we know there is room for improvement with our away record too.

I am not exactly sure what that is down to but it makes a big difference when you have 40,000 fans behind you at home. I did not think that when I used to watch games but when you are playing the crowd makes a difference.

Whatever the reason, we have to get it right and start winning games away from home if we want to challenge in the top six.

You're right....in the first 20 mins, I was convinced he wasn't playing....never saw him nor heard his name. After that I thought he had a reasonable game but agree he should come inside looking for the ball if there is no service out wide to him.

Still his hair looked really good, so I suppose that's the main thing!;)

Dunno if this was posted earlier (couldn't be bothered trawling through the pages) but this was what Ian Holloway had to say about Ireland in his column on the bbc website.

STEPHEN IRELAND'S SUPERMAN SHORTS
He's a complete fruitcake, that bloke, isn't he? We've got to be careful with him, he's after the old crazy mantle and he's going to win it hands down.

You'd better ask Superman what he thinks about it, someone impersonating him playing for Man City.

Reading "Goals" in the English Scun today (found it on the train of course, no way am I sending 20p:)). It says about Ireland "worse barnet than elton john" in their player overview. He should now expect something similar on a weekly basis from this "paper" as that is their MO. As an aside it give Dunne their starman award.
