Shels Vs UCD at Tolka had a very small crowd.

Although it only counts 10 Derry games it looks pretty accurate.

Yep, that's me taking figures from here, Bohs official figures and the Star. Probably best taken with a pinch of salt.

Most of the stuff here wasn't too bad. Any chance of getting him to change it to just that and ignore the Star ?
Cheers to the Pats fans for all thier help

To be honest .... if you feel that way, you could of at least send in the Pats figures and you'd know then that was right.
You stance on this didn't actually help at all.
Can i ask ..... how would you have gone about it, what in your opinion is the most acurate way of doing it, knowing the info that was available to us ?

Did it at the start, just kinda forgot about it...
Still think most fans wildly overestimate crowds (I know I've done it) Roll on next year and published correct figures

Most of the figures were over estimated.... I mean for a prime example look at the Bohs estimates compared to the actual figures.... The only way to do it is through published attendance figures, as Bohs do.... Anything else is no different from the Star guessing them.
eh, if i dont have a figure what do you want me to do?
pluck it out of the air like the rest on this thread?
I'll give you an example here to illustrate:
I was at a game in richmond park were I was standing on the camac side directly opposite the stand side
I could clearly see that while the stand had a large crowd that there was a noticeable gap between the home and away fans in that stand
these away fans when told of this indisputable fact laughed off the suggestion and thought the very notion preposterous
basically when you're in the middle of a crowd of more than 200 and if you're at a certain vantage point in a ground you can have a very incorrect impression of what the ACTUAL attendance is
in most cases listed above I don't believ any of the figures

Cheers for a re-hash wws.
Move to go to the jacks during the game or something then try.
It's an attempt to be MORE accurate than the Star though obviosly it won't be the full story. It was also an attempt to get thesepublicised to avoid wailing and gnashing of teeth like happened among Bohs fans when their real figures were publicised this season (some of their crowds last year were just as bad.
still cant see the point
I'll await
a) a aystem of automated turnstiling
b) independently audited figures being released publicly as part of this sytem
I won't be holding my breath

Thats why we keep it going ;)
In fairness i'd never be able to guage the crowd at an away game cos don't know the capacities of the various sections of the ground. Turners Cross is easy enough to calculate as we know the capacity on the 3 seated sides. Terraces obviously a bit harder to calculate. I'd still be confident the turners cross season average to within 500 of actual number.
All this academic got be official figures next year?

Tommy, I did give them earlier in the season, but there really was no point in me giving pretty accurate estimates (going low side of what I thought) when it was clear other clubs contributors were not. Half the thread is taken up with people arguing about the figures, and getting them bumped up.

In fairness when it started out, everyone that they'd round down, and i can only say for myself, if i had put a figure down it was the lower one (and as Pete said, it was a fairly close guess to what actually was there) ....... and between the 4-5 from City giving figures, the smaller one was always agreed upon.

Says Éire when I look!
As far as I know, everything about UEFA licencing is to come into force next season with the possible exception of the grounds. Official attendances I think come under the financial side (to do with audited financial accounts, etc.) and so should be available from next season.
At least then we'll be able to see which posters talk the most rubbish!

A lot of that was Cork and Bohs fans to be fair.

OK, maybe a bit late, but like Dodge I just kinda forgot about this thread.
v Waterford (just after the Cup final) 1000 max
v Drogheda 800
v UCD 1000?
v Longford 1200?
BTW Tommy, you reckoned 1200-1400 for the Pats-Rovers 5-3, I'd have put it at no more than two-thirds of that. I was on the phone to DvB about five minutes before kick-off and we were wondering whether we'd break 800 between us. Youse had about 300 in Section A & B, say about the same scattered along the rest of the main stand and one sad ******* sitting all on his own in Section E. Throw in a hundred or so for the Subbuteo stand, but if we had even 400 there I'd be amazed.

I was early and thought the same but it seemed to fill up a bit. I was going on roughly 700-450 on the sides (crowds can be decieving in the riverside) and 150 behind the goals. I left a bit of give and take as I couldn't get to the far side to see the stand properly, and if you're looking from the corner it seems fuller than it is.
BTW that total was significantly better than Bohs managed on two consecutive trips to play us in Tolka in 1997.

Cheers, if you look at that table from that link I'd say our crowds were (disappointingly) pretty much around the figure, but there's no way we were that far behind everyone else, particularly the likes of Drogs and Waterford...
