Well, I hate the name..it sounds poncy to me. However, I sincerely hope I'm shouting it out loud at the end of March....you all seem to think that it's a done deal and that the application has been accepted. I hope all the high hopes aren't dashed.

Look we´ve had Limerick AFC, Limerick United, Limerick City and Limerick FC and as we couldnt use these names again we had to come up with something else.
Why not? We still use the Waterford FC prefix on our business letters and lotto tickets, unless the previous Limericks are entirely different entities. L37, LFC, LAFC, LUFC, LCFC etc. you are almost as bad as the Corkies.

I wanted 1937 Limerick as the name, but Limerick 37 has market value in trying to attract new fans to the club I think

Usually trade marks (eg. club name and crest) cost a lot of money, if you want to buy one from somebody else. It's much more economical to simply come up with a new name.
Anyway, with a new name and crest you can ditch much of the baggage of the past -- barriers that existed for whatever reason (prejudicial or deserved) can be swept to one side.
And I think the idea behind the name Limerick37 is to try to associate the new club with the glories (whether real or imagined) from the past, and consign the business/management troubles of the recent past to the rubbish bin of history! (:D or something like that - wow! what a load of highfaluttin ...)

I can only presume that 'Limerick' would equate to 'Limerick FC' in the context of a football club. I'm sure some clever legal whizz could argue that. So I'm sure Soccer Limerick had such a possibility in mind and decided to steer well clear of this kind of trouble. (The likes of the current court proceedings are trouble enough!)

I can't wait until this court case is sorted out and we know whether or not Limerick 37 get a license and the season begins. All this talk about the name is getting annoying. Let's hope we're talking football pretty soon.:ball:

Now hoops where are all your POSITIVE suggestions? Im not sure any manager would want heff after his "performances" last season, and although a fan of both Tommy and Robbie two players dont make a team/club.
very picky with who your a fan of.robbie was poor enough last season and was a disgrace after noc was sacked,he put on weight then missed seasons end because he got injured playing a gaa match.as for being positive you did say 2wks ago you would not support lims37 if o conner was in charge..hypo

ahh but u see this is the actual quote "Im all for Limerick 37 but if one of those persons mentioned above is made manager i shall be leaving supportiing LOI soccer for the first time 20 years." The words "including NOC" were not in my quote, they were in the previous posters list of names, which you have included in my post so therefore i did not say any names in my post.

The names mentioned above were "Noel O Connor and Aidan Ryan, Ray O Halloran and Mike Kerley". I think that includes NOC. Tony Killeen has nothing on you boy. :)

appologies here lads for my ignorance but is there currently 2 proposals relating to LoI in Limerick:
1. Danny Drew who is in court &
2. Limerick 37 who have applied for a license from the FAI and are waiting on a response - but the FAI are waiting on the court ruling first before giving a reply.
this is my take on it but i could be miles off and if so could someone enlighten me as to the exact situation. :ball:

Hi
L37FC have applied for a License to play in the EL first division,
Due to the terms of the High court injunction the FAI are prevented from issuing ANY new licenses be they for LFC, L37FC or wexford until the injunction is lifted.

i would even get rid of the name lims37 its a joke as for a manager have no idea who actually would want the squad barrett, kellerher, heff gone the squad was small enough not goin 2get anyone in only players from pike.fairview and boro and there not good enough its goin to be a bad year for soccer in limerick getting hammered every week:mad:
Enright, Hartnett, Phelan, (Pike) Cosgrove (Fairview) would easily handle the step up to EL level if asked.

Enright is too small for a centre-half. He's good in the air and has a fine left peg on him, but at junior level. Definitely wouldn't cut it at a higler level imho.
Sniffer lacks a yard of pace, and does not have the mentality for a faster paced game. He'd be guaranteed to spend half his season suspended.
Hartnett tried it before and didn't set the world on fire, and Rossi could easily handle the step up, but is simply too much of a messer....:ball:

just wondering Joe what u mean about Rossi being too much of a messer? always thought he made a positive contribution when he played, at least he was prepared to take on defenders, didnt always work but at least he gave it his all...

Hartnett looks alot fitter now then when he was with limerick afew years ago i think he would be a good addition to limerick or limerick 37
Goals4fun
30/01/2007, 10:29 AM
hartnett is a bit older now and would probably make the step up.
enright is a good player. you do not need to be a giant to play at center half (cannavaro - and no i am not saying enright is as good as him) however as he does not play OT would he want the step up.
the young fella with wembly who is apparently setting the world alight - Treacy wouild probably be another.
But if they are trying to pull players from any of the clubs left in the major competitions it would be hard for those players to walk away at this stage.

Off the field....and it does have a bearing on your on-field performance and that of those around you. I don't think he has the discipline off the field to make it in the EL.

He's been there done that and worn the substitutes bib
Don't get me wrong, he would do as a squad player if you were badly, badly stuck for players (Which we could well be) but you will NEVER EVER win anything at Eircom League level with players of his quality in your team :ball:

Sorry Sees it.
I played with and against Tommy for over 10 years, and have played against and watched Dunphy for a while as well, and I would say that IMO Tommy is the better all round player.
allab? Whats your view on this, you'll probably go with DD as hes your team mate but try and be honest with your answer.

been honest its hard to compare players that play diff positions, dunphy would be a better winger/full back than tommy where tommy would be a better goal scorer than dunphy so u cant really compare the the 2 of them.

Ah but who would you have in midfield. Thats where dunphy started out and thats where Tommy played the majority of his games for limerick.
Personally id take Tommy. Dunphy does too much jumping into the air and screaming when he hasnt even been touched. Oh and Tommy is a better player also imho.

boith good players but again having played with both and against both i think tommy slightly shades it.
i think tommy played in a better limerick team than dunphy.
also i think DD did not fully apply himself

i thought it was a very interesting discussion anyway.
not backpeddling at all just think dunphy is better.i think dunphy would do alot better if he was playing EL now he was young when he was up there, tommy didnt start until he was 26
