About 4 miles from home and I'd guess between 2 and 3 from work.

Depends when you're leaving Dublin. Last time I was in Kilkenny, it took three hours to get down, and that was only because we gave up on the M50. Would have been longer if we's stuck with it.

From the south east of Dublin, the best way to Waterford (especially on a Friday evening) is the coast road down the N11/M11, avoiding the M50 entirely. You get stuck at Gorey, but it's worth it to avoid the M50.

Best thing to do is head for the hills. If you know of the Ballinascorney Road its gfcuking ace. Brings you up the hill back of Tallaght and out at brittas on the N81. Mightn't seem like much but it is fairly easy to get to Kilkenny from there on.

Yeah, that's the way we went to Kilkenny in the end - out through all the "B"s (Brittas, Blessington, Ballymore Eustace and Brannockstown) and out on to the M7 just past Kilcullen. Takes a but longer compared to a clear motorway, but far quicker than being in a car-park!
