Students!
UCD play in front of nobody Rovers play in front of the biggest crowds
in the league sometimes.
Make your own mind up about what people want
your embrassing yourself!
You obviously didn't see the TV coverage.

Eh, no - they were scumbags. Pure and simple. THrowing flares onto the pitch? Or are you ignoring this part?
The number of fans for either club is irrelevant.
That's just your opinion and its wrong. Athlone had flares too or are you ignoring that part.
You should be more interested in why the pitch invasion was so easy. Because of, yet again, inadequate stewarding.
Nobody got hurt and talk of people being put off the league because of a harmless pitch invasion is pathetic. It has happened in other countries too.
As our manager rightly said it all boils to jealousy. Pathetic sniping.

Don't turn this into a matter of passion.
Everything you need to know about UCD in one sentence.
Pitch invasions, as a rule, are ridiculous. There are however exceptions. Winning the league on the last day of the season, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with last minute winner against big rivals and one or tow more.
I agree. Shows how low Rovers have sunk that they celebrate a win over Athlone so much.

No they didnt have T.V's at the match
What did it say "EL shock as Rovers fans in run onto the pitch in joy and
happiness" disgraceful.
Immediate fine to all clubs showing anybody at the matches having a good
time
I wonder will Rovers be fined for the flares & smoke?
BTW i think the ground itself looked very poor. The spectator areas looked very dark & gloomy (why no lights?) & the closeups on the pitch was rough & high.

I bet you were the guy in the white jacket on the pitch.

You'd swear the pitch invasion was like Hereford-Newcastle in 1972 the way it's being blown out of proportion.
Did Hereford get fined back then, I wonder? Actually no. They became English league members soon afterwards.
The EFA didn't care about it then, so why should the FAI care about it now? Mini-pitch invasions are common in the LOI when goals are scored. UCD fans wouldn't understand why, for obvious reasons.

Home club bears the brunt I think.
Ground was a damn sight better than most in the league. Where the camera was a good covered stand and where we are was a covered terrace. A big bar as well.
At half time they had a guy who was remarking the pitch. Except he was walking on the paint as he went along:D
Hopefuly the Athlone crowd will stick by the team when the new stadium is ready.

I can smell the bitterness and jealousy off this thread. Pathetic lads, simple as that -
Being lectured by a UCD fan. Give us a shout when you bring 700 to an away game, then you can talk.
A Cork fan going on about us celebrating beating Athlone. How's your Cup campaign going?
Bohs and Derry fans almost apoplectic about the behavoour of Rovers fans. Calm down chaps.
This MB has gone way downhill recently (admittedly not helped by some Hoops on here) but the level of bitterness about Rovers is astonishing. We have a massive, unruly, drunken away support. So poxy what?

I am informed by an Athlone acquaintance that a few bottle throwing Rovers followers took a wrong turn from the pitch and will not be throwing anything for a considerable time as a result of the lesson in manners they received from some of the locals. Anyone here anything about the incident?

More lies

I'd say solely down to idiot Rovers and Bohs fans myself (obviously not all fans of these clubs are idiots, I'd say 4/5 max) but one of them has just received a ban so we'll see how it pans out. IMO the bitterness is generated here by those same idiots. Same happened when Corkies started to believe their own hype, thank god most of the hardcore fools are on the official site.
Thread locked, only going one way. Anyone wants to discuss the Athlone/Rovers pitch invasion, don't. Anyone who wants to discuss the state of foot.ie please post in support.
